Everyone will have different ways in which they acquired their talents, either getting early practice with mummys make up bag at the tender age of 4 or going to make up school? How did you learn?

It all began on a rainy saturday afternoon for me at the age of 15 with my sisters make up case...and i never looked back...of course ive graduated from Rimmel and Bourjois now onto finer things

in fact when i was younger i always wanted to be a make up artist...but alas fate got in the way

I started wearing makeup only when I was 25. No wonder I'm still such an idiot! Mainly I learn from forums like this. Did a personal makeup course before but didn't find it very useful

I really didn't wear makeup until my mid-20s. One of my closest friends and ex-roommates was a model and worked at MAC. She taught me everything. I'm still not as good as she is, but I now have more than 2 brown eyeshadows and a lipgloss.

I didnt wear any makeup until earlier this year... I did a little in high school but that was mostly just lipstick and stuff... So i pretty much learned everything I know from here and from anything any MAC MAs taught me when I went.

I guess I'd consider myself to be "self-taught". I played around with makeup through middle and high school, but didn't get really into it until I started college and got a job (and could afford nicer makeup and real brushes

). I basically learned by reading magazines, books, and looking online (here, LJ) and trying to imitate what I saw.

Observation and study. I started wearing makeup at about 20. I have read books by the likes of Sam Fine, Tyra Banks, Kevyn Aucoin and others. I try to ask a lot of questions when I'm at a counter and watch what they are doing - the tools they use, the colors, where they put them. And I just practice. Practice, practice, practice. I think that's the only way to get to know your face and know what looks good on you and what you like.

I did nothing! I started to play with makeup when I was 12-13 years old...

Don't be afraid to try new things, that's how I learned!

I literally learnt in the last year and a half, by looking at lots of fotd, asking a kazillion questions and reading reviews like there's no tomorrow. Because I like to try and do all the things I do well, at first it would take aaaaaaaaages to get certain makeup aspects done, but it's really just experimentation, interest and lucky enough to have an artist significant other who gives me excellent feedback.

I have flipped through 2 of Kevyn Aucoin's books, can't remember which one it was, but one of them is super-helpful for basics.

Just playing around with my grandma's makeup. That is where it all began. As far as learning how to apply I read tons of books, look at online pics and asked questions. The rest came from practice.

I did like the tyra book. It shows her with and without makeup and what they did in the process. It's called Tyra's Beauty Inside & Out. I wish I could remember more of the books that I read. I remember going to the library and searching for all books on makeup and I used to check out whatever was available. So you might try that. Or go to a Borders or Barnes and Noble and look at the books that they have. See if you can pick up any tips and tricks. I've done that too.

I started wearing it around 7th grade. It was the 80's bad hair and bad m/u back then.

Back then it was all about Wet n' Wild!!!

I have learned a lot here from all the eotd/fotd. I also learn from my bother in law who is a M/A. He wants me to go to school, if I dont do the whole just at least just the beauty. I am thinking about it! =]
