Why are we addicted to MAC?

I have been a makeup addict for as long as I can remember, but there is something unique about MAC. It's quality and affordable, but there also seems to be some sort of intangible special something to it. I totally fell in love when the first counter opened in my city. The first time I went there, I had my best makeup shopping experience, ever. Several thousand dollars later, I still love it.

I will start first since I started the question. The reason that I am addicted to MAC is because it allows me to be so creative with so many colors. What other name brand do you know that has that many colors, and with such a wide variety of the color spectrum. I am also addicted to MAC because they last forever. I could use the same eyeshadow everyday and still have some left over a year from then. Furthermore, I am addicted to MAC because it is just plain FABuLoussss and does not get any better than that.

Keep in mind that this is a philosophy question...

im addicted because yes i buy one mac product and it lasts forever and ever....and i just have to have every damn awsome product...and also i love to paint

I'm also totally with MissMarley!!

singing *it even makes you happy when you're feeling blue ...*

It just makes me feel happy to put my makeup on and play with this immense variety of colours and finishes, and products in general. What other brand offers that, especially when compared to the 'moderate' price. Yes, they increased their prices (and I'm not too happy about that either), but MAc is still cheaper than Chanel, etc. like PrettyKitty said. I just got into MAC a year and a half ago (don't know why, I must have been blind), and before that I only used Chanel, Lancome, Guerlain and other expensive brands - and in my experience they don't compare to MAC when you take their prices into account. But, of course, others may regard it differently ...

For me there's nothing better out there, and I'm worth it. Aren't we all?

Honestly I'm not in it for the quality or packaging or price ...
It's just that their color stories really attract me and the fact that they have a lot of choice ... oh and also for the hype

At first, I never put much thought into MAC...at all. I would always walk by MAC. I never "got it." I always thought it wasn't fun enough, and even a little bit intimidating.
Until I found specktra. (even though I'm still intimidated and haven't shopped around in a store/counter yet

)
I love MAC now because it's fun without trying too hard. It's not serious and it's not goofy. I like how they don't put so much emphasis on packaging that would rack up the price even higher. They let the product speak for itself, without most of the fancy bells and whistles. I love that I don't see ads for MAC everywhere I look, and that a shadow won't break if I drop it (usually). I love how MAC is never the "trendy" brand, or the "hot new" brand. It's timeless. But the main reason I love MAC (besides the awesome quality) is just this:

Great quote, asteffye!

Jude's damn swatches!!! Gosh, seeing every lip colour on that girl seems to activate this 'want' command in my mind!

I'm surprised no one's mentioned this, but MAC is animal cruelty-free. Makes it a much more desirable brand to me! Also, they are fairly socially conscious, I once read an article on apparently 'trendy' causes for charity and AIDS isn't one of them but MAC supports AIDS research & funding. Very, very cool.

I have dark skin (NW45) and my skin colour has largely gone ignored by other cosmetic brands. Most of their foundations/ concealers/ eyeshadows has been aimed towards those with fairer skin which has made choosing colours really difficult for me and has left me disillusioned with the world of makeup up until recently.

I redicovered a love for makeup when I discovered mac. They have so much choice! Most of the colours work for me and if they don't, I can easily bring them back. The colours work wonderfully and look just as they do in the pot.

i'm addicted to mac for alot of reasons: 1- the prices aren't crazy like dior or chanel, yet the quality is still of a higher standard 2-the different color stories and products keep us facinated 3-the various range of different colors 4- the pigmentation is of a very high quality 5- mac comes out every month with something new, wonderfull, and exciting 6- i find most MA's to be very firendly and helpfull and the best is that they dont pressure you to buy like other companies do there are many more resons, but these are the most important to me. Make-up lets us express ourself and create!!! (and feel and look better!!)

i've always loved make up too, and the thrill of stepping outside yourself to look completely different from yesterday just by switching up your products. MAC isn't that costly, to me, even when you i buy large hauls every once in a while, because i know it will be used, it's quality product, and it looks pretty in my traincase, alright? haha, but seriously, MAC allows people to be inventive, channels our creativity, and just makes us looks better in general (who doesn't looks better with even just a little mascara and blush?)...and that's a good feeling, because i know when i look good, i feel good. and with so much offered, standing out from the crowd to share something different to the world is guaranteed.
plus, i love the color stories just because themed anything makes me smile, like most girls, playing dress up is always a party.

The first thing that drew me to mac was the quality of the eyeshadow. I then started liking the "looks" worn by the MA's and the cute packaging.
Over time I grew to just love many of their products and its so awesome when you get a life changing lipglass.

I'm totally the opposite of your coloring, but that's an excellent observation!

Great question, Julia.

Their powerpoint eyeliners and shadesticks were first for me. Metallic colors that didn't irritate my eyes (a first) plus they last all day. Then a MA took the time to find the perfect foundation for me (NC15 - call me Casper!).

Then I found out about MUA and heard about a thing called pigments. In a year my samples turned into over 50 full jars. It got quickly out of hand.

Then I found Specktra. That's how the eyeshadow addiction started. Then you need good brushes, right? Then I saw the MSFs on people. I had to have them all. Add Jude and you sexy others and your FOTDs, and a lipglass addiction started too. Now my formerly beloved Lancome star glosses smell rank to me because they don't smell like vanilla.

My name is Kim, and I am a MAC addict. I stand before you a poorer, although more colorful woman!

I need a drink...

great question....i agree w/ what everyone has said already...the quality, the range of colors, etc. but as others have mentioned i haven't ruled out the possibility that the "C" in MAC does in fact stand for crack, as lately i have been acting like a complete addict. i mean it's now to the point where i barely enjoy the current color story b/c i am already craving future ones! grrr.....

They are innovative, fun and deliver quality that speaks for itself.
They don't waste money of frivilrous over packaging and let their textures, colours and quality - the things that matter - take centre stage.
They understand that people come in more skintones than pale, beige and orange.
They provide more than 10 eyeshadow colours and more than one version of a colour so that there is a green for everyone, a purple for everyone etc.
They are affordable.
They allow makeup to really be used as an art, rather than focus on covering up our flaws or making us think the makeup is there to purely make us look ''better'' in the superficial sense.

Because it's soooo preeeeeeeteeeeey!

That's my excuse anyway. I practised my eyeshadow application with Shimmermoss & Gorgeous Gold on my boyfriend this morning and I was sitting there oohing & ahhing over it for ages.
