Why do we keep buying?

I pay for every single thing I purchase on credit cards. I pay no interest, ever.

Why do *I* keep buying? Because I like to buy myself the things I want.

My love for makeup has just recently became what i call an obsession.

Makeup was first most important to me to cover the scars on my face
I had very bad acne that has left me with alot of nasty scars on my face, also my skin is extremely dry and extremely pale, so I did buy ALOt of different foundations trying to find one that had extreme coverage for my scars and acne, was mositurizing and in a very light shade. Also one that would'nt make me break out even more (which i found alot of foundations did) I have just recently found the foundation that works perfectly for me, and my acne is starting to slow down alot, and I have to admit, when i first put it on i did feel really good when i looked in the mirror.

now that i have that covered, my obsession is pretty much collecting all the best colors and shades so I can be creative everyday with my looks.

I am now a freelance makeup artist and the whole reason I started doing makeup a few years ago was to cover my acne scars, breakouts, and discoloration on my face. Its amazing how much better you feel when those terrible things are covered

And that is a huge reason why I do makeup on other people, I want them to feel the way that I felt when I learned how to do this.

A careful introspective into why one purchases such things as makeup can be a growing experience. The look from the inside out can lead to deeper self-awareness. In turn, this can lead to a whole new level of self-discovery. Great post!

I think makeup for me is a way to express myself, plus it's fun to put on. When I first started getting into makeup and use to look at other's collection who had massive amounts of makeup I would always say I want to have that much makeup, but now I don't think thats for me. Right now I only buy what I know I will use because if I were to have so much makeup that I never used I think it would make my stomach hurt sick to think I spent that much money on stuff I don't use.

I feel like it sucks that we almost have to apologize for enjoying/collecting makeup. Honestly, who cares why we have it? Maybe we love the art form (as I do) or have a compulsion mania, or think we ought to enhance our beauty. Whatever the case, it's a safe and harmless hobby that makes you feel good. I've never seen any other collecting/hobby/etc that gets so much flak. My ex has over 3000 DVDs, and surely not enough hours in his lifetime to watch every single one enough times to justify owning them.

And yes, we only have one face. But we only have one body too, and yet we change our outfits every single day, to different colors and styles. We don't all just put on a grey jumper and grey sweatpants. We express our individuality when we make up our faces, just as when we get dressed for the day. It seems like women especially are made to feel guilty for buying something as "frivolous" as makeup....I think as long as you can afford it, buy as much of it as you want.
