she had no fuckin hips, no thighs,

Some women will never have wide hips or large thighs. That's called genetics, and it's really rude for you to insult women who can't help that. Some women are given figures that are straight up and down, others have hips where you could sit small children on them.

I'm sorry you had bad experience with thin women who called you fat, but that's not everyone who's thin. You have no idea why these women you see are thin. They may be battling an ED, they may have some other health-related issue that causes them to be thin, they may naturally be that way.

People of every color of the rainbow have insulted me for being Asian; if I took on your attitude towards thin people, only applying it to other non-Asian races, I would be the most racist son of a gun that walked this planet.

i was overweight as a child and i got made fun of endlessly. even as i got older, i would still be made fun of for my weight (i've since lost most of it) - so it definitely happens. and any "fat girl" will tell you that.

i dont see it as any more acceptable. go to celeb gossip blogs, go anywhere - there will be a SO AND SO IS A FATTY (even if they arent), or equally as negative SKELETOR. so i dont think its any more OK to make comments about skinny girls as it is fat girls.

also from what i've seen, the skinny comments are usually a way to gossip - a "is she eating?" comment. or flat out just thinking someone looks ugly. just like how "fat is ugly." these comments are made about any feature, be it a big nose or frizzy hair.

fat girls may make those skinny girl OMG EW comments, but i have a friend who is VERY thin. she is naturally thin, but she has a very small appitite and it thinner than she would be naturally, i think. she seriously looks ill most of the time, very emaciated. when she declined food that a larger woman offered her, the woman responded with "that's how you stay so thin!"

my friend immediately got SHE'S JUST JEALOUS BECAUSE SHE'S FAT, SHE WANTS TO LOOK LIKE ME!!!!!! she has taken this stance many times before, and always talks about how skinny she is and how if anyone of any size insults her (for any reason, not just a comment on her size), she immediately responds as though that person is jealous that she wears a 00.

this skinny pride mixed with the "ideal" beauty that is shoved in our faces can cause resentment from those who are bigger. i have been on both ends of the spectrum so i have seen both sides.

i see them as equal - both hurtful, both NOT socially acceptable. i dont see either more often than the other, and i never see one as less hurtful than the other.

i think some people are trying to pick this whole "skinny hate" out of the rest of the pool of hatred as being more hurtful, when i see other things being said just as often that are just as hurtful.

(sorry, i know i rambled and probably didn't make much sense)

Just remember, the road is a two way street. Your post can be just as easily written from the perspective of a skinny girl looking at a 'curvy' one. Your proud of how you look, perhaps your thin friend is also proud of the way she looks?

Wow....I think this thread has spiraled outta control. I dont think it was meant to be rued on RaeRae's part..she was just saying from another viewpoint.

I am a curvy girl myself and people call me fat. I dont think they're haters or jealous or whatever...they just dont know ME and they choose to judge me by my BODY.

glam8babe, that was seriously uncalled for. shove a fuckin burger down your throat and stop throwing up? seriously? are you aware that there are people on this board who have suffered from EDs in the past and would take offense to this? hell, even I take offense to it just because of how rude and unnecessary it was.

RaeRae's post didn't seem to be directed at YOU, it was a hypothetical "there are 2 sides to every story" thing. It was simply showing the "other side" of things, that there are viewpoints other than your own, and that calling people disgusting and so on just because of how they look is terribly hurtful regardless of WHOEVER is saying it. "curvy" people calling skinny people nasty, skinny people calling curvy people bloated whales, either way it really sucks to be on the receiving end of that.

clearly, you missed the point.

It's kind of interesting that you call yourself this girl's friend. You will go on and on about how she's sickly, nasty, disgusting, no men want her, etc. but you will stop just short of posting a picture because THAT would be too harsh?

Lastly, I've seen you mention in several threads that "men like curvy girls" and if you're thin you'll never get a guy and so on and so forth. This just isn't the case - curvy or straight, fat or thin, black, white, or purple, there are SO many things people find attractive about other people that there really is no reason to say such things. It just isn't true.

First of all, I *don't* think it's OK to call thin people disgusting etc., Just wanted to get that out there first.

I think the point a lot of people are missing is that when you're talking about certain celebrities we ALL know darn well that many of them aren't "born" thin and DO have eating problems. No one who remembers what Nicole Ritchie looked like 6 years ago can tell me with a straight face that she is naturally thin. And you know what? To me, she does look ill now. Her clothes fall off her, her ribs stick out, she's five months pregnant and weighs 105. That isn't healthy. The celebrities who tend to get these skeletor type comments are the people who started off their careers as normal sized women and knowing what they used to look like, the whole "naturally thin" argument doesn't hold water. They did something to get that skinny, it's a look they've either been forced into by their agents or peer pressure, and it IS damaging to us as a society to have people who've starved themselves held up as paragons of beauty.

There are plenty of celebrities who have always been very skinny, look totally healthy, and don't get the same kind of flak - Cameron Diaz comes to mind, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Reese Witherspoon, I'm sure people can think of others. The reasons people like Nicole Ritchie, Lindsay Lohan and Kate Bosworth (well, she started in the second naturally skinny category!) get so much negative attention is that we all KNOW that they are affirmatively doing something to be that thin.

I think the same thing happens in reverse when a celebrity who was basically thin to healthy gets slightly heavier - that's why you hear people giving negative attention to Tyra Banks, Kelly Clarkson etc. but you don't often hear people saying Queen Latifah, say, is fat. She's always been that size, she's healthy and (I think) looks great, just the way the naturally skinny and healthy people look great.

So basically, my point is, I don't condone but I do understand why people who've made themselves extremely thin or have gained enough wait to go from thin to slightly overweight get so much negative attention.

Which brings me to my final point - there always seems to be a slighly veiled amount of fat bashing going on in threads like this. There is NOTHING normal about Nicole Ritchie's weight. I'm POSITIVE there are other people who are her height and weight who are healthy and normal, and couldn't gain weight if they tried. SHE'S NOT ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE. And if people want to point out that looking that thin, for someone of her build, isn't healthy, I don't see why the argument that SOME people can't gain weight and/or are that naturally skinny matters. Study after study have shown that people weigh what they weigh and that there's not much you can do to change that significantly. When people change their weight to be significantly more or less than what they usually weigh, they're going to get negative comments because it no longer looks healthy for that person.

it isn't okay to describe someone who's thin that way. people think it is, and society says it's okay and that really needs to change. society needs to start embracing all shapes and sizes of people.

glam8babe, i have trouble finding clothes that fit me properly and i have a clean bill of health. just because a girl can't fill out anything bigger than a size 0 doesn't mean there's something wrong with her. i'm 5'7" and 102 lbs...it's genetics. my dad had pretty close to the same stats when he was in high school. sorry i can't help it if i have a fast metabolism. and, just because someone is thin doesn't mean they don't eat. my station is full of line-backer built men and i eat more than any of them. maybe raerae is the same way.

alot of overweight people will use genetics in their defense, but when thin people do it the world looks at us like we're on crack. i wonder why that is...

And that reminded me of that little blurb I read today, which is basically shows that point, as i read it. If you ask someone if a size 1 is big, or small, their going to say small. So that store is just showing how the standard of what's "small" is changeing.

Anyone who wears small clothes sizes has noticed that everything is getting bigger. Eigther by less availibility of small sizes, or in your size fitting bigger on you, than it used too. Which is a direct reactiong to a population that is growing, and what used to be seen a big, is now just normal.

Actually in a lot of stores, sizes have gotten smaller. Take A&F & Hollister. A size 6 today fits like a size 2-4 3 years ago. So they're actually making their jeans SMALLER than they used to.

If there's documentation, I think it is fair game to believe someone is drastically underweight (or overweight). However, if you see a thin or big person on the street and assume something about them, that's another story.

Regardless, it still isn't disgusting.

I don't know why such negative emotions are being associated with weight. If someone has an eating disorder it isn't disgusting, it's sad.

the thing that bothers me most about the uber thin celebrities (whom are not naturally thin) is that they dont ever seem to be JUST eating disordered, if at all. it is usually drugs.

most notably, mary kate olsen. she hid behind anorexia and went to rehab for an "eating disorder" - no one cared to point out that cirque lodge does NOT TREAT eating disorders, but drug and alcohol addictions only. i found it pretty disgusting that she would mask her "dirty" addiction with a disease that is probably viewed as "classy" or at least something worthwhile of pity. (however, the olsen twins are naturally quite tiny, when mary kate was emaciated, that was not)

nicole richie has always denied having an eating disorder, and while i am sure she doesnt eat much, she has recently admitted that drugs were most likely the reason why she is so thin. she has a past with addiction as well.

of course, cocaine was most likely their drug of choice, which would affect their weight in the long run. so i suppose they "technically" could say they had an eating disorder, but the not eating would have come from the drug, not necessarily the mental aspect that comes with having an ED.

just had to rant about that!
