Woe is me! Airport Security Blues

Argh! I thought I had all the rules figured out for carry-ons at the airport...but got about 100 bucks of makeup thrown out!!! I didn't have time to check it.

i could just cry.

what i lost:
-Mac Studio Finish Foundation (1/2 full)
-3 mini mac lip glasses, oyster girl, prrr, sizzlepeach
-1 l/e lip gloss, pink clash
-1 See thru lip tint, lovin it light
-tube of jewy dube lipgelee (almost new!)
-Lancome Definicils Mascara
-Kiehl's Cuticle Cream (that's like 18 bucks)
-and a bunch of (sealed) single-use samples of moisturizer, shampoo, face wash (1 of each from different brands)

I'm just sick about it.

Did you have all of that stuff in the quart sized bag? That totally blows...I went to Atlanta over the weekend, and they didn't even open my hangbag (where I had my cosmetics in the quart sized bag)...not even once.

Wow that sucks! I'm going to be flying to FL in December and I've never been on a plane before, I don't want to take anything I'm not suppose to on my carry on, so I guess it's safe if I just check ALL my mu right?

Aw, I'm so sorry to hear about your mu being thrown away! I feel for you. If that was me, I would've bargained and asked if instead of throwing them away, I could just ask the pilot to hold everything for me.

Wow! That is crazy. Thankfully a buddy of mine is into airport security and will be at the airport when I leave,.. he will be helping me,.. LOL. Said so long as I can get it in a sandwich baggie,.. I should be good to go,..so the Tuesday night before I leave I am taking what I plan to take on the plane and letting him inspect it at Karaoke,.. LOL. Until he offered to do that for me I was planning to pack it all in my suitcase and prolongwear it on the plane.

I flew last week (U.S.); had all my creme/liquid/gel items in the quart-size Ziploc and my solid items (fndn stick, 4 pan palette, lipstick, Powerpoints) in a small cosmetic bag, both in my purse. I had to put the Ziploc bag full of liquids in its own separate bin before it went through the X-ray, but I left the cosmetic bag of solids in my purse and it went thorugh fine.

Security is adamant about the Ziploc bag not being crammed full, so travel sizes/samples and an edited selection of stuff are critical if you don't want to check your bag.

I just went on vacation a week ago, and I was all panicky about the "fitting everything into the ziploc" issue.

When I was flying to my destination, they really checked thru everything, but on my return, they didn't even look! I was irritated, like "I just spent all this time trying to make my makeup fit in this baggie and you don't even look at it?!".

It really sucks that you lost so much stuff! Airports are sooooo stressful. I suppose its a good excuse to go shopping though

Just make sure you use a quart sized bag and don't overstuff it...everything that's in the bag should move around and the bag should be fairly flat. You should be able to open and close it easily.

In my handbag, I took what I normally would take in a makeup bag: gloss, hand cream, concealer, hairspray (travel size), eyeliner, GWP mascara, sample sized fragrance, and my Blot Powder. I packed the rest (eyeshadows, blushes, etc) in my checked bag.

No, they won't hold anything for you. When this whole liquids thing started, I saw garbage cans FULL of huigh-end cosmetics, fragrances, skin care, etc (yes, even Creme de la Mer)...I wonder what they did with all that stuff.

In the end, it's just better to check it all or courier ship it out now. I'd rather fly ugly in the end knowing none of my kit is in the trash.
