if you work less then 6.5 hours you get one 15min break. if you work 6.5 or more you get two 15min breaks and one 30min lunch . you do not get paid for these 30min

it depends, but i think it is. before they used to do shippments early in the morning from 6am but now they switched it to be done overnight once a week. during holidays it will be twice a week.
be ready there is a lot of physical work. carrying boxes, tons of boxes... not just that day but pretty much every day. also merch.manager is responsible for back room how it looks is it organized and clean etc. when you are not doing merch. you will be manager on the floor, responsible for customer service. also you will be stuck a lot on the register

Ulta pays just about the same as victorias secret around 9 for prestige and 8 for the cashiers. If you wanna work there I suggest applying for a prestige position because they are paid higher and are trained in all the professional skin care and cosmetics. If you are a cashier you dont do anything but stay at the cash register and help people in mass market products with mac or a high end counter wont really look at as "experience" As far as benefits prestige gets gratis on some new products that come out which is good if you are just starting to build your kit. Hopes that helps!

Everyone gets a ton of hours during GO. I have GO'd 3 stores as a manager. Don't be surprised when your hours start to dwindle down to 4-12 hours a week once the excitement is over. I worked for ULTA for 2 years and have seen the staff turned over several times due to payroll issues. Even as a prestige consultant, you will be ringing on the register at least half the time and not really able to spend much time with clients and actually doing makeup applications.

Also, ULTA *grossly* underpays their staff. You could go to Sephora, MAC, even Macy's, Saks, Nordstrom etc and make at least 20% more on your hourly wages. It's disgusting. No commission either.

And if you want to be a manager for this company - realize it is like being a manager anywhere ( not cosmetics ) you will not be doing makeovers, consultations or anything else... you are responsible for the stock, the salon and the sales floor... as well as cleaning, ordering, resetting the store hardware and fixtures etc... you will not feel like you even work in cosmetics.

Heads up!

Absolutely HATED working at Ulta. We had a new store that opened and i was extremely excited that she offered me the position right then and there. She said she'd call me the next day with what position she was going to give me. I originally applied for a cashier but she had told me that she would love for me to be a prestige consultant. Next day comes around, no call. Couple days pass and still no call! i had to get a hold of her, and when i did she offered me the position as a cashier at $9.00 an hour. I was extremely bummed that it was only $9 but whatever, i had a second job at BCBG and it was completely okay since i've always wanted to work a cosmetic job. Well they treated us all like shit, we had to set up the whole store since it was brand spanking new. I felt like a slave and im sure everyone else did as well. Had decent hours, almost 40 until the store actually opened to the public. My hours began to get lower and lower, from 20 (which was fine since i applied for part-time) to 10, to sometimes 5! The management was horrible, No LP at all, so kids would come in and steal makeup and there was nothing i could do about it except offer customer service. Our 'operations manager' didn't do shit, she barely could even speak english! Even i had to help her with the register sometimes! It was just a horrible experience, not to mention the fact that you can't bring your OWN bag in the store, you must use this itty bitty clear bag that they provide. It fell apart so easily, and once you were ready to leave they'd inspect the shit out of your bag making sure you didn't jack anything. Yeah like i'd jack something and put it in my clear bag for you to see! All your makeup that you bring from home must be marked with a green marker that they use at the beginning of your orientation. So if you want to bring something new from home, you can't. Quit as soon as I can, and im glad i did. Very unprofessional & my manager was extremely rude. That's my experience :)

I really enjoyed working at Ulta for two years as a cashier and task team member. However I did have a couple of days or shifts that I felt like a slave...having to build shelves and move like 50 products on a plastic shelf from one side of the store to the other without dropping anything, We were in the process of remodeling so I was anticipating slave work, but seriously one shift my job was to scrape to pieces of metal together until one fit into the other...no lie! I had blisters and everything and barely got any recognition for not complaining. My overall experience at Ulta was great though! Nice co workers (especially the task team members) and really understanding and caring managers! This is a great job for someone looking to gain some experience in retail esp in cosmetic retail!

ps-I worked at one in the bay area,ca

Hi ya'll, just got a job for the holidays at a new Ulta working TASK since I had no previous experience. What hours does TASK usually work? Mornings and afternoons? Nights? I should have asked but honestly I was so excited I blanked.

Also they mentioned I should dress "appropriate" for the orientation, what exactly does that mean? Similar to what I wore to the interview? Thanks!

I'm not sure what TASK particularly does, because I worked there as store stock/cashier. But their dresscode is all black, so the "appropriate" things to wear would be black shirt (no cleavage and usually no spaghetti straps), black pants/capris, and black heels or flats (no flip flops). I had to follow this dresscode even for orientation. Hope I helped!

Paula, it's been awhile since I posted on this thread. Basically it means you do all the unloading of the shipments, stocking products, etc. Least I think that's what I was told, I wouldnt know I helped set up the store and was never scheduled to work again.
