lately... He sent his passport application... They said between 4 and 6 weeks to get it, and it's been 5 weeks already and we have nothing

He should try calling whichever politician represents his district/area in parliament- if this an option in Australia (?)... after 6 weeks to see if they can assist him with processing paper work. It has worked a 2 day turn around wonder here in the US for me once.
