MAC - Holiday 2010 A Tartan Tale Discussion

I just realized I never commented on the stuff I got from this collection!

Today is an especially exciting day for me as far as this collection goes, because I got a package today! I decided that it was necessary for me to get Her Blooming Cheek. Yes, I have full fuchsia, but to be honest I never got much out of that blush. I find it too pigmented and hard to work with, no matter how light I go, and is difficult to blend. Plus, there is an appreciable difference in colour; FF is noticeably redder than HBC, and I tend to dislike too much red on my face. HBC is everything I wanted FF to be. I haven't worn it yet, but will tonight.

The other blush from this collection, MHH, has quickly become one of my favourite blushes. I'm shocked to say I never had a true peach blush before this one. The closest I had was Benefit's Coralista, which is much pinker. Now that I am wearing it, I love peaches on me. I'm NW 20/25, and it brings so much warmth to my face without looking orange. It has become a go-to everyday blush.

I got 2 Dazzleglass creams from this collection: Gone Romancin' and Soft Dazzle. What can I say, they are gorgeous. I was pleasantly surprised that GR did not make me look dead at all, and looks great over pink lipsticks (I admit it was a bit too much over Lavender Whip). Soft Dazzle I wear over any neutral or pink lipstick for a warm golden pink shine. I loved it over Blankety.

I also had to get the Viva Glam lip bag. First of all, how could I not get one bag from this collection, especially in Red, the best looking of the bunch in my opinion? Also, I have always wanted to wear more of the Viva Glam colours, and was happy to donate my money to the AIDS cause. Finally, the colours are pretty and wearable for everyday, especially loving the gold to them. Since I fell in love with Blankety I have been all over pinky brown neutral lips, so this was right up my alley.

And, finally, the standout for me, other than MHH, of course: The Family Crest Pigment! I'll also include Lord It Up liner with this, because I will wear them together a lot. I love this one, the texture is amazing, so velvety and soft. It's so warm and cozy and sparkly and pretty. It is sultry and romantic and even sexy. Some even report a violet undertone, which I want to experiment with bringing out. LIU and TFC together make a great smokey eye, I like to use naked pigment with it too. I might even wear this on my anniversary.

I can't say I am overly interested in much else, for now. But considering that this collection should be out for a while longer, I will probably find a way to sneak some more items in ;). I have a way of doing that. Hope everyone is enjoying their stuff so far!

Does anyone know how cut a caper compares with sandy b and shy girl? I have the two, so do I *need* this one? Maybe MAC will release similar colors in other collections, but it looks like a nice color. I'm really into non-dramatic makeup.

So very different. sandy b is very sheer, sparkley peach with gold tones. shy girl is a faintly shimmery, (although its suppose to be a creamsheen) mid-tone peach.
cut-a-caper is more comparable with ever hip as it is creamy (no shimmer) light to mid-tone coral with pink tones.

I can finally say I know what you all are talking about when it comes to the awesomeness of pearlglides. Last week I tried Undercurrent for the first time, and wow, I didn't think I could ever be this impressed over an eyeliner. The application is absolutely brilliant--smooth as butter. But, the creme de la creme for me was the lasting power. From 7am through work, til 9 or so at night, it looked amazing. I am in no way exaggerating when I say this. It didn't budge! I couldn't help but stare at it every time I ran to the restroom throughout the work day. There was no smudging on the outer corner, I could hardly believe it! So, big shout out to Erine and everyone who raved about the pearlglides. (Undercurrent is totally "mermaid in a stick"). Your insight is greatly appreciated! I am so very tempted to get Lord it Up and Petrol Blue.

I don't have Sandy B but I've seen it on youtube videos before. It looks like a very light frosty color. Shy Girl belongs more to the peachy-nude family of colors. Cut A Caper is peachy-pink, but on the lips it seems to be more pink than peach. All 3 are definitely very different from one another. But I would say that Shy Girl and Cut A Caper belong to the same family of colors (warm and peachy, but not too over the top), except that one is nude and one is pinkish. If you like non-dramatic makeup, you will like Cut A Caper. That's what I've recommended my friend who also loves Shy Girl l/s.

Hmmm... I may have to go back for MHH after all! You look as if you have similar colouring to me and I haven't had a blush like MHH before either. The closest I have is probably ripe peach - do you think its suitably different from the pale side of ripe peach?

does anyone else think this might be the collection that everyone thought might be viviene westwoood? i imagine if you just saw the theme and packaging that it would be easily mistaken

i remember being so sad when it turned out not to be true

Yaaay pearlglides! :) I have to thank this collection for helping me rediscover them. I inherited a few from my aunt who never touched them, and I didn't think anything of them until I played with Black Swan, Lord It Up and rediscovered my Undercurrent :) So much love!!! :bigheart:

I don't have ripe peach, sorry! You should definitely take a look at it, though. I almost passed over it myself, and am glad I didn't!
