EYES Continued:

Well some sort of MAGICAL CHEMISTRY reaction took place using them as a base for these MESs. First we tried it with Unsurpassable. Unsurpassable looks kind of like murky shit in all our current swatches, you will agree with me. Just some weird greyish color. Well, these swatches lie like the forked tongue of Beelzebub. Over a neutral Big Bounce, suddenly it becomes the most dense, velvety, opaque, and brilliantly bright emerald green you have ever seen. Like Jealousy Wakes on steroids. Don't boo hoo if you didn't get one - just get Unsurpassable and a Big Bounce for a base. We both did a complete, mouth hanging open double take when we saw what we were looking at. Even applied wet, there was no way we would have ever thought you could get such a vivid color out of any of these. Unsurpassable is doubly gorgeous because you have that damn green and you also have the blue veining, which is an amazing violet, periwinkle shade - stick to the blue veins and you have a totally different and equally blinding and vivid color, or apply a layer of the green side, let it set for a few seconds, then lightly brush and blend some of the blue into it, bit by bit, creating a bluish green of just the right proportion for your desire on the fly. Or don't blend the blue layer in and let it just sit on top and voila, you have a duochrome effect. This shit is bananas.

I am officially now highly intriqued by many more than just the original two MES I've had my eye on since the beginning. Can't wait to see some photos from folks swatching and playing with these shadows. Sounds like there are some surprises in store.

And side-note - Liba, good lord woman! How have you not passed out from all this writing yet?! LOL. You're a machine tonight!

In all seriousness, thank you SOOO much for your insanely detailed descriptions and opinions on this whole collection. It is most appreciated (even though I have no doubt you're gonna cost a lot of people a lot of money with it all! hehe)

Agreed! You've been so amazing! Giving such detailed info! But you're very bad for my wallet><"

I pre-ordered Golden Gaze, Hint Of Sapphire and Musky Amethyst based on the few swatches I saw but I'm disappointed with Christine's swatch of Hint Of Sapphire. The ones I saw before were light blue not gray like her swatch. I hope it was just her lighting.

EYES Part 3:

Ok, phew - i can't believe i can crank out this many words about these damn shadows, but they are truly very special. Here's info on the last major texture and some of the potential down sides (since I need to be somewhat objective).

The last texture has glitter. Let's get that out of the way, right up front. In the case of Quartz Fusion, it is big glitter. White glitter, yes, but still big. Quartz Fusion has the roughest texture of all the colors and the biggest glitter. The color is sexy as hell - it made my eyes look amazing applied in the crease. I wore it all day long and I DID have fallout by the end of the day. I had 2 or 3 other colors on, but I knew Quartz Fusion was the culprit. Can a good strong eye primer get control of this? Maybe - I will have to experiment, because this also is one of the best colors in the collection for subtle, sexy and stealthy. Just perfect for green eyes. Again you can control how much pink or peach tones you want in it, for the perfect effect for your coloring, but you cannot avoid the glitter. It's there. It exists. Deal with it or be glad you have one less color on your gigantically long list of doom.
SOS.gif

I stuck Mineral Mode in the previous category, since it's a lot easier to control, but it does also have a mix of larger and smaller glitter, just not as overt as Quartz Fusion. However, Clarity belongs in this third category for glittery-ness except it's not rough and chunky like QF. Instead, it's one of the most beautiful colors in this collection and honestly one of the most beautiful eye shadow colors I have ever seen in my life. Sorry for the superlatives, but this is a color I've seen in nature but have only dreamed about in makeup. I know it looks blue with pink and copper and green etc. in the pan. Applied, it goes on like a perfectly soft, clear, neutral beige with the most beautiful, multicolored opalescence. Yes opalescent like a butterfly wing or like a shimmer of oil on water, but not harsh or bright or garish in any way - just beautiful beautiful color and sparkle. I am going to hit pan on this one eventually. I didn't get to try it over a Big Bounce, but I can't wait to see what color it magically transforms into - it could be anything! It's like fairy wings. I'm in love.

This brings us back to the downside of all of these shadows - pretty much every single one of them. They are STILL mineral shadows. The formula is greatly improved, but it is what it is. You are going to be dealing with fussing around with bases and/or wetting the brush if you want maximum color impact. No way around this, otherwise they are sheer and/or subdued. If you are willing to take the time, you are going to get a color payoff that is as dense and rich as their most pigmented loose pigment, but I have a feeling traditional cream color bases and paint pots might give disappointing results. I worry that there will be something in their heavy texture that will react with the binders in the MESs and result in something weird and clunky - like how applying the Crush Metal pigments with a wet brush causes them to get all funky and crumbly. It's highly likely you are going to have to step outside the box if you want to get the maximum wow from these. I think the Big Bounce was so successful as a base because it dries down like a very thin and almost rubbery veil over the natural eye texture - it's weird stuff to be sure, but the very thing that makes it kind of strange and hard to use is also the same thing that makes it work so well under these weird new formulas - it does what it does and gets out of the way - it doesn't clash with the ingredients that hold the shadows together. I find they re-texturize the eyelid skin in a certain sort of way that must have a certain "grip" that allows these shadows to jump up and shout bloody murder. Are they are requirement for enjoyment? No. If there are other bases that will work as well, though, will take a lot of trial and error. Maybe an eye primer with some reflective quality to it - that might work. Or just use dry or wet. 'Just be prepared for a sheerer, smokier look in that case, rather than a vibrant bright jolt of color.

Also, all the shadows have the other same drawback of MES past - not the highest staying power. I wore Rare Find, Quartz Fusion, Smoked Ruby and Clarity all day (admittedly without a base or primer underneath) and they eventually faded and sort of merged together into one semi-indeterminate color after about 4 hours. That isn't the best staying power to be sure, but I think with a little experimentation with bases and extreme care taken not to overblend the colors once applied to the eyes, I think we can improve the duration of the hold. Not that the faded color looked bad....in fact, it looked hella sexy, if you ask me, but this might not be ideal at work, lets say....

Overall, I am bowled over by the beauty and versatility of all of these shadows, but if you are not interested in difficult products, stick strictly to the first texture group of solid sheen, which are the simplest and easiest to use. If you want to play in a wonderland of eyeshadow fantasy, though - be brave and go for all the rest of them. I seriously am going to buy almost all of them - they are that amazing to me. I can't even believe how much money I am going to blow on these shadows and I feel like I will have very little excuse to buy any more after these But hey, these shimmery, sparkling, multi-faceted treasures are the sexiest jungle love goddesses of eye shadow compared to your basic, girl next door, powder shadow. I'd say try at least one of the second texture category and just go hog wild. If you loved Style Black or Venomous Villains MESs but wanted less black base and/or less glitter and/or more color, these are your products. If you loved the simple MES trios from last year better, a lot of these might be too wild and crazy - no harm done - you have just saved way more money than I have so be happy! I know I sure am, spending the retarded amount I know I will spend. At least I'm not my friend - I showed her swatches and she instantly had me reserve every single one for herself. Cha-ching!

Oh btw, my store is getting quite large quantities of most of the colors, but there are a few that very few are coming in for no apparent reason - Golden Glaze is one of those, which makes zero sense since it's the easiest to use and most obviously snazzy color, besides maybe Blue Sheen. Probably no reason to stampede your store in advance, but it won't hurt to get your butt down to a counter without a lot of delay. Hell, waiting 2 weeks to actually own and wear them all seems like way too long for me.

Liba--Thank you so much for all the info and reviews of the products. I don't think my wallet is so happy right now. I just heard it run away, probably to my husband:)

I thought I was just going to get a couple of the brushes. Oh well I guess I'll see. I also thought I was going to be able to skip Dark Indulgence since I have NARS Night Porter but I see that is not the case. I must have that one for sure.

ugh i am pooped...gotta just jot down a few quickie notes about the lippies and msfs and blushes....

blush: we have seen these colors in non-MB formula and also MB formula. They're really nice and have zero glitter and zero sheen, but considering all the damage the rest of the collection is going to do me, they're a skip (although I'm tempted by the brown and the coral - but not tempted that much).

MSF: I want to talk at length about these - the texture is a little updated - you have sheen, almost wet look sheen, but glitter is minimal, even when you go heavy on the center color - it sort of melts into the face for that wet look, rather than sitting in chunks on the skin. It's not colored sheen, except for SP-Pink, which has an ashy pink taupe color (I know that sounds gross but it looked really cool on me - only attempt if you have the right skin tone or want a futuristic robot lady look) You can definitely use these MSFs as overall color - i got complimented today a few times, but they are super wet looking - so subtle color, much less crappy pore magnification than in the past, a much lighter feeling on the skin, but WET SHEEN even just applied dry, so swatch in store if you can to see if this is up your alley.

lipsticks: These are lustres, but way better than most lustres. They are pigmented, apply very evenly and smoothly, are opaque enough to cover up my naturally red lips and have true staying power - I wore One of a Kind all day and ate and drank and it's still hanging in there 8 hours later and my lips don't feel dried up. MAC's going to be offering a lot of these subtle, browned, MLBBs coming up, but these are a very nice, balanced formula - not too glossy or matte, too sheer or too dense. One of a Kind is perhaps my favorite, but Musky Amethyst will be great for people to ease into dark colors or who wanted Cunning from Fabulous Felines but missed out - it's a sheerer, glossier version of Cunning for sure. Gem of Roses will be a huge hit - MLBB plus a little extra pink. I thought Lush Amber was an excellent, sexxxed-up nude - hell I am going to get them all most likely - this collection will be the death of me.

cremesheen glasses: If you like the lipsticks, you owe it to yourself to get a matching gloss - the combos here are just earthy, sexy and juicy - try one shade darker gloss per lipstick, you will like what you see. Temptalia's swatch of Geo Pink is off - it's not so vibrant or red orange - it's a very muted peach/coral color and honestly one of the best corals in a long time - we were reminiscing a little bit about Succulent, which it isn't, but it's a serious winner - if you can't get Caqui, this one is probably a bit more wearable. Natural Flare is another color like Krazy Kahuna that looks weird and ugly until you get it on your face and then watch out world. The promo pic says it all. Again, all of these are great and i'm not sure how i'm going to hold back from getting them all.

Time to sleep, dammit! :D

I both deeply love and seriously hate Liba right about now LOL.

I have always been interested in the forest green & ruby MES since the descriptions in the colour story were announced, and that was solidified once the first photos started popping up. But I was almost positive I didn't care about anything else. And after the JW fiasco with the Blogger's collection, I really wasn't planning on buying anything other than those two items.

But NOW.....

EEEEEPP. I'm in a lotta trouble. And this is coming from someone who historically has never really cared for mineralized anything, most especially MSF's and such! But I'm finding myself now highly interested in one, maybe even two, of the MSF's and the coral blush, and I’m hugely much more interested in several of the other MES's now thanks to all these Liba posts!!

Jeebus help me.....

Now I want everything, ha! The MES sound great, and I'm glad to hear Clarity is beautiful, it was on the top of my list from the beginnig, even though I have not seen swatches of it yet.

PHEW! Now I can finally make my list smaller and calculate how much money I need to save. Thanks Liba! You are an angel:)
Except now... my bank account is weeping and my boyfriend is consoling it LOL.

Lipsticks:
Gem of roses
One of a kind
Musky Amythst [maybe]

Cremesheen:
Geo Pink

MSFS:
Goldstone
Pearl
Rose quartz [maybe]

MES:
Blue Sheen
Golden Gaze
Clarity
Quartz Fusion
Hint of Sapphire

You made everything sound so beautiful... I'm so tempted to buy them all...
But I still have to get Stereo rose, so ceylon, soft and gentle MSFS
& Also Tarte for True blood palette! I hope that one doesn't get sold out...
If it does, i'll cry.

Thanks Liba, what Big Bounce shadow did you use as a base by the way? Particularly under Unsurpassable to get that bright green?

I'm really confused now! I like shimmer/glitter and I thought this could be my collection.
All the MES look pretty byt swatched... I;m sure I have a dupe somewhere of most of them. I need to see them in person though.
I had hopes for the MSF, but they look similar. And the darker ones seem very shimmery to be used all over the face or as a blush. So, only for highlighting...
At the beginning I said I'd skip all the lip products but now that I'm not so sure about the mes I'm considering about them.

Musky Amethyst l/s (this is the only one I have no doubts!)
Gem of Roses l/s (need to think though, as I don't like Lustres)
Geo Pinl l/g
Pearl MSF
Goldstone (unless it is extremely shimmering)
2-3 me/s (since I don't like them from the swatches, I may take the prettiest to look at!)

I can't wait to try the MSFs and see what this is all about. I am glad they improved the formula and made them less glittery. Awesome review of all the products, thank you, thank you, thank you!
