MAC - Semi Precious Discussion

Today I received my final order from this collection. I was excited b/c I had ordered Goldstone (thanks to the great enabler Mac-Guy

) and Crystal Pink, along with some permanent brushes. I open my black box, and what do you think that I find: Goldstone, my brushes, and another Clarity (I already have one). I called MAC to complain, and they tell me to keep the Clarity & they are overnighting me Crystal Pink.

The weird thing is that my new Clarity looks almost exactly the same as my original Clarity. The veining & everything looks almost the same. Out of all of the variations that I have seen in this shadow, I end up with 2 that are almost the same. Bizarre!

Maybe you can swap with somebody to get a different veining. I'm glad that MAC is overnighting CP.

I just popped in to sing the praises of the 128 brush. I LOVE it! I think this is one of the most versatile, useful, wonderful brushes I own. The size and density are PERFECT for all things face related, foundation, blush, cream products, contouring. I love it.
IMO, the brushes are really the standout of this collection. I am so glad that MAC patented this type of split fiber brush. I really hope to see more of these.

For what it's worth, I also purchased:
Pearl MSF (it's okay - nothing that makes me do cartwheels or anything),
Hint of Sapphire (for some reason I have loving shades of blue on my eyes this summer) and
Golden Gaze.

I am contemplating Jades Fortune and Unsurpassable, but I am hoping the lemming passes (I picked up several items from Chanel's most recent Collections and both of the new Bobbi Brown palettes, so I am trying to show *some* restraint!)

Singer82 - Congrats on your wedding! You're a beautiful bride and I wish you and your hubby MANY years of joy and love.

After having test-driven it for a little while now for foundation, I can say I like it much better than the 109 (which sheds like crazy!) for liquid foundation. I didn't expect my results to be quite as good but using the natural side to apply and the synthetic side to blend gives just as good results as buffing it in with the 109, and is easier to do, in my opinion.

I'll never go back!

I guess I will have to give the 128 a try now. Everyone keeps saying how great it is for foundation but when I asked the ma about it she said it was really just good for cheeks and the 187 or 190 would be better for foundation. I've never had much luck with those. I do like my 187 for powder products. I also kept giving the 109 a go and all I got was shedding. No matter how many washings I still had little black hairs stuck all over my face.

I am also loving the 2 eye brushes. The kubuki is so very soft but I still can't justify the cost because I really don't know that I would use it much. But it was quite tempting as I felt it at the counter.

So, I have been blah on MAC for a while (since before Christmas) and have bought very few things.... (Honestly, I think it's because I don't visit Specktra that often anymore -- it doesn't work well on my phone, so I've been turning to Makeup Alley a lot, even though I find the community here to be far, far nicer.)

This collection has blindsided me! I didn't think I wanted a whole lot because of the poor reviews on so many blogs and on other sites. But all that bad buzz just doesn't jive with my experiences -- I don't have trouble using them dry, for example. I've made three visits already, and I now own one of the lipsticks, one of the glosses, one of the brushes, two of the MSF and six of the shadows!

I started out just wanting Gem of Roses, Golden Gaze and Smoked Ruby. The day the collection launched, I ended up also picking up the 235 brush and Clarity. Then I went back the next day for Mineral Mode, Faux Gold and Pearl. The day after that -- Unsurpassable and Goldstone.

And I want more.... But buying the rest of the shadows would be ridiculous... Right? (Wait, I think I'm asking the wrong crowd.... :D)

No...I so seriously agree with you. If I had to pick only 1 eye and one face product for forever...they would be an eyeshadow and Pearl MSF from this collection. They are my fave shadows ever because each one is like having at least 3 or 4 separate products. I wish so much that these were perm shadows.

I've just been playing with Golden Gaze, swatching it on the back of my hand. Alone, it's very dark with a hint of gold, as there is a lot of black in the pot. Over UDPP the gold is more apparent. I decided to try it over a couple of paint pots. Uppity really gave it a boost, and i think that's how I'll have to wear it if I want GG to look gold rather than smokey, but if I use it over Blacktrack I get a dark bronzey colour, completely changing the look of it.

Glad to hear your Warm Of Coral finally arrived, Lou :)

I am looking for a base to bring out the red in smoked ruby mes. I can find artifact on eBay but it works out 45+ dollars incl p&p to ireland which is too much IMO opinion. I have looked at benefit stiletto but not sure if colour is similar or if this product creases. Also looked at mufe creams (not the aqua creams but the other ones that come in similar jars) and shade no1 looks like it might work but it's a fair stark red and again I have not used this formula before. Do you have any tips on what you use as a base for ruby mes or do you have any advice on the products I have looked at?

So I'd like to try using the shadows with Big Bounce. Can anybody recommend shades and tell me the best way to apply?

Can you combine shipping to make it worth the cost? I doubt that MAC will repromote Artifact any time soon, but you never know. With the current conversion rate, $45 is not too bad, but of course, it's still more than the original price.

As for the big bounce, I got the Extra Charged that is a minty teal green when applied. It is way lighter on than it is in the jar. I stippled it on lightly let it dry for less than a minute then applied the shadow like normal. I have used it with Clarity, Jade's Fortune and Unsurpassible. It brings a little more shimmer but the effect is something I love! I am so happy the MUA at MAC showed me this little tip. I can't wait to try Clarity with Count Your Assets. They say that combo is amazing too!

I think that for the Smoked Ruby that Luxury Touch that is more plum or Reward Yourself would be awesome.

It's much darker than Artifact, though it might work if you go for a vampy smokey eye look. Artifact is more subtle.
