Exactly which is why I take a collection of swatches and reviews before I decide, my mac lady rocks and is honest, mac counters here are not the most friendly or forthcoming with advice or customer service!
exactly! it is always so much better to do your own research! and of course it is good to remember that products work differently on others - what works for you may not work on somebody else :)

exactly!! so many bloggers poo poo'd the semi precious mes but i love them so at least it gave everybody a chance to play and buy what they wanted!
Cosmetics technology is changing, new products that operate differently than in the past.....I'd love to see more blogs run by people who can handle all these changes and factor in the new types of shimmer and sheerness that are out there now.

I grew up with too many 60's and 70's throwback ladies who still had bouffant hairdos and pastel blue eyeshadow 10 and 15 years on. Sometimes I wonder if the smokey eye + light nude lip trend will be plastered on some gals' faces in 20 years when they're pushing 50, while the artists have gone on to god knows what......

exactly - i think people just need to really play with items now before writing them off. actually bother to have fun trying out new things with the product rather than swatching it and banging out a quick review :(

I hope there is a collection that comes out that I love. I really want to get my makeup done at the store, but i want a look from a collection for the $50.00 I am going to spend. MAC me over would be a good one because its a complete collection, but i don't love it... Fall Color is a large one too, but I feel like I have enough bright colors... Maybe Styledriven with all the pro longwear colors...

Couldn't agree more and I still think you should do a blog ;) I cannot believe that so many people judge colours how they swatch on their hand. Ok, it is a first indication, but mattes generally swatch tricky on hands. It just seems so easy to get stuck in the same old makeup routine (colours, placement of colours etc), just human. So many people wear the same look day in and day out. People love to stay with what works for them. I would love MAC forever if they would bring back the VAE, but it seems that will not happen anytime soon. If they'd make it perm, I'd kiss them. With a MAC lipstick on of course. :kisses:

I couldn't agree more. And if somebody posts a review of a 50+ piece collection within a day, it is just impossible to believe that this person tested the products in any depth. Yes, I understand that there is a pressure as popular blogs live on their fast and constantly renewed blog posts, but the quality of reviews will consequently suffer. I appreciate all the time-consuming work blogger offer, but I take it with a grain of salt.

What I have a hard time with is the fact that make up gets grades, especially when it is solely based on personal preference. Personally, I don't care much for purple l/s (for myself, anyway), but does that mean that every purple l/s should get an F because I can't wear it? C'mon, some of these grade systems remind me of highschool and all the drama associated with it.

If you don't like a certain type of product, don't review it if you can't stay somehow objective or try at least a bit harder to embrace new application technique or get some help from other MUA to understand the product. There are certainly products that are less pigmented, but there is probably a huge market for these type of products as not everyone feels comfortable to wear a dark purple or black e/s.

Please note that this post is not intended to criticize any particular blog and/or judge any individual, but it serves as a reminder for the online community to search thoroughly through various blogs, reviews, websites in order to build an informed opinion based on your make up habits, tastes, and skills before putting all eggs in on basket blog.

Oh i do!!

sounds like you have found an awesome mac lady then! :) yay! :)
I tend to read alot of blogs out there but i dont take alot of notice aside from the swatches. Temptalia is the main blog i take notice of for her reviews and swatches. I always find her opinion useful and correct with the products that im after.

Mac-guy I give you an F as a reviewer of reviews. Just kidding

I agree though. Grades are a lil dumb. And somehow European products always make it to the 3.5 GPA...

I totally agree this sentence, it's really important to look at various blogs and swatch product ourselves if we can, but I don't really agree about the other stuff... I mean, I don't think Christine or other bloggers say that a product is not good because it doesn't suit them.. they said Evil eye quad is low quality and this is at least their own opinion.. this doesn't mean we can't love it or mustn't buy it.. A grade has the importance we give it and I personally don't think make up is objective.. of curse this is only my opinion :p

Lou, I believe Piarpreet meant that brands like Chanel or Lancome automatically get an "A" or "A-" - no matter what. :)

Although I love seeing swatches, I think it's important to remember what you personally love in make up. I happen to think that pigmentation is not the be all and end all because if a shadow is lightly pigmented I can do a quick look without looking like I have been beaten up. I can also build the colour up too for a different look. So if a product is given a low rating based on pigmentation I take it with a pinch of salt and just look at the swatches for colour reference I do find bloggers comparison swatches the most helpful

Exactly, Lou, Thats what I mean.

I'm not worried about saying who does this: Temptalia sees Guerlain and A or A-. Even if its a damn gloss that is just as not pigmented or sticky as any MAC one, its an A, and if its MAC its a B-

I've had products she has reviewed and honestly even though opinions are different I think she overestimates quality of European products. Im from Spain, and when I stepped in the US I see people rave about italian and french products, merely because they are from Italy or France.

I respect people's opinions, but when she is such an influence in all of us, she is even if she doesnt want to making us want or not want something.

Gem or Roses is NOTHING special and it sold out like crazy. On the other hand, the shadows took longer to be sold out.

Correlation is not causation, but personally.... grading is useless. I only consider her words and descriptions of products. They are good. Just the grades bother me so much. In the end she is the only blogger i visit and consider for swatches, cos in that aspect she is the best. ITS JUST THE GRADING SYSTEM!!!!!!

PS: I'm totally PMSing, so sorry if its harsh, but really. I'm finishing undergrad and.... I'm soooo done with GPAs.... its make up! When did we forget about this?

I have to say, I think C has got a bit too big for herself now, I used to enjoy reading her blog, but it's so commercial now. I don't feel like it's a personal blog anymore, whereas some other blogs I read are about the blogger as much as the blog. I have recently got very disillusional about her reviews, firstly I saw a couple of Guerlain lipsticks reviewed on her blog that looked nothing like the actual shades, I think she might have mixed them up because she was talking about a coral colour when it's actually rosey pink without any coral. She also said that Midnight Rodeo (From the UD 15 palette) hasn't got much fallout, so I said perhaps she hadn't worn it because my face was covered in glitter when I wore it all day, and she said she'd actually tested it several times. Now I can see how much stuff she reviews every week and there is no way in hell she can test everything and wear them for several hours. It's okay if she can't, but then don't claim she has when it's not physically possible. I know she puts a lot of work into her blog, but to me it seems more of an automatic reviewing machine now rather than a person passionate about make up. And yes, the grading system is a bit too much, lol.

I also agree with y ou and everyone's sentiments. I tend to look at the big blogs like Temp and MBB as a reference point for swatches. I then will rely on you all here, or other blogs that have actually used the products to get a better judge of how the product works. I also don't pay attn to Temp's ratings or suggestions. There have been some items I would've missed out on b/c she said they weren't suitable for certain skin tones. Really? And it isn't all her fault, we all hve to play with stuff on our own to see what works for us. ALso, since she is lighter and I'm darker it can be hard for me to tell if something will work for me.

I also appreciate her hard work, her blog was the only one I looked at for awhile. Now that I've become part of the communities, I look to the smaller blogs.
B/c the blogosphere is so competitive it seems like some are trying to become a blog-celeberity and not just talk about makeup.
