MAC Daphne Guinness Discussion

Lately it seems as though MAC will give her a few products then she'll buy the rest from the PRO store. The sneak peak she does is what they send her then she'll do the full collection when she gets from the PRO store, which is usually why other bloggers have swatches up before her. Kinda boo it's done that way but I guess it's in MAC's best interest to limit what we see before the collection comes out in stores.
OT, but...

Did she actually review Elude, GP Metal X, the brush, and the bag? I can't remember...

It seems she doesn't do full collection reviews anymore - I might be wrong on that though.

Hmmm your right she didn't review any of that. Maybe because it's the couture collection she decided not to review all of it?

The last full collection she reviewed was Fall I think, sheesh September seems like ages ago.

I'm not sure if she did review all items as I do not follow her blog that closely.

This one would have been nice indeed. Maybe it comes back during the Spring at some point. Fingers crossed.

That's why I did a full face photo of Elude. Normally you wouldn't catch me dead putting photos of myself on the internet, but no one with a blog was putting up anything other than an impossible to understand swatch. Temptalia didn't even buy Elude to review, since she kept thinking it was just a plain translucent powder, not a tinted bp.

For $60, Elude was beautiful enough to take a real look at, especially since it isn't something that'd necessarily work for a lot of people - and at that $$$ price.

Indeed! It certainly doesn't come as a surprise. "Don't bite the feeding hand."

But the good news is that each blogger can buy all products themselves if they want to do so, though it swatches will certainly come out later then.
i'm not shocked to be honest either.

Christine does not always put up bad grades. All of the regular eyeshadows (singles, and not including Miss Piggy) that came out recently were raved about by her, and usually the blushes, lipsticks and glosses are given good reviews too. If she thinks that a product was not up to par or if she can't find a way to make it work for her, she will say so and be honest about it. There could be any number of reasons why MAC doesn't send her all the products in one collection. She certainly does seem to get most of them at the very least, and she's not the only blogger or vlogger that doesn't receive everything either. *shrugs* Those are my thoughts on the matter.

I am just happy to read reviews and see swatches... I don't care who's they are and what they say. I only use the information to try to plan an advanced idea about what may or may not work for me. And what voids a certain product could fill in my collection. I never base a purchase, or lack of purchase, on one person's perspective. I think it's nice to see someone give an honest review. It's easy to only say good things and keep getting those free products. It's a lot harder to risk saying something negative. And if someone is investing their time in their blog, their opinion is going to be the focus. We have to be smart enough to do some research for ourselves. If bloggers don't receive samples, lots of people miss out on educating themselves, as not everyone can get to a store to see things personally. So I am happy for any advanced info I can get my hands on!

ya for sure. I just think that the grading ABCDF is childish and with those people dont even read the actual critique or the post on itself and people who follow them really closely then are turned off. I love how T does her photos, but we have discussed sooo many times before the grading thing I dont wanna get into it again. It's just too simplistic to really criticize a products by just giving a grade.

I got a C in a class where I got A's in all exams. But I got a D in the final paper... that doesnt make me a bad student...but I probably wouldn't publish! you know what I mean?

I TOTALLY know what you mean girl! I don't even pay attention to the "grades" or rating scales. I think those tools are used to create originality in their specific blog. (Like 1 blogger uses # of lip "kisses" to rate products.) It's a little narcissistic to say the least, but I appreciate an honest review. That doesn't mean I always agree with them. AS a matter of fact, some of the times, a bad review makes me MORE curious about a product. Almost like I want to PROVE someone wrong! It's a challenge. How many times have we said, I LOVE this product even though it got horrible reviews? Or, I almost missed out on that because "so and so" said it wasn't that great?

(Side Note: I DO really like the way T does her lipstick swatches. She shows the lip and the whole face. That's very useful to me. And not a lot of bloggers do that! It's helped me with MANY a lipstick selection... I will say that!)

ya... she does lippies like no other! and I wish I could work out her comparison swatch thingy.... I can't use it lol. It's a pity she does no longer do the side by side comparisons as much.

And she hated semi-precious and I got everything except goldstone, crystal pink, 2 lippies, and 2 creamsheens!

I had JUST discovered her blog around the time of Semi Precious and had NO experience with MES yet. I passed on all those because of her review. THEN saw on here (before I was a member) that everyone was loving them! Went back just in time to grab a couple & picked up the few others I wanted on ebay. So I ended up paying WAYYYY more than I should have. After that, I really changed my perspective on her (and others) blog reviews! I love those shadows too! So now I read with an open mind and apply my own experience. People need to try things for themselves and trust their own judgement more. Just because someone has a fancy blog doesn't mean they are the god of all things makeup! Now, I get from her blog what I need, and leave what I can do without.
