MAC - Naturally Discussion

I am with you Mac-Guy. I do enjoy edgy promo pics, but this one, for some reason just freaked me out. Not sure if it's the nipples, the eyebrows that are missing (or just very very light) or just the models bone structure. There is just something about this promo pic that I don't like. Loved the collection mind you. The Promo pics don't really make me want to or not want to buy the makeup. The colors and swatches are what makes me excited.

I might be in the minority, but I'm always thrilled to get some edgy promo pics. It's nothing more boring to me to see a "regular" promo image. I love to see some dramatic poses, edgy application of MU, or unusual use of the product. If it is "just" a regular beauty shot, I'm likely to forget about it as I've seen those a million of times. Now, this doesn't mean I want to see nipples. In fact, those nipples have really been over-used this year in various ads and I'm definitely over them.

Thos promo pics are not meant to be copied 1-on-1, but rather they should be seen as a work of art. And in each promo pic, there is at least an element that I like to "make it my own." This might be the blending of colors, contouring, or a certain shape that is achieved. If you just take this one element, you can spice up your regular MU routine and stay en vogue without compromising your whole aesthetic.

Catwalk looks, editorials, and promo pics are the only creative outlet for MUA, so I really appreciate any efforts to show something that does not fit the regular expectation of what beauty has to portray. I find those images inspiring, sometimes they are even a turn-off, but at least they give me something to think about, a cultural reference that reflects the current Zeitgeist.

Ultimately, it's the same with fashion. The styling you see on the catwalk is not how people wear it on the streets - at least most of the time.

Of course, everybody is entitled to their own opinion and if you hate a promo image, there is nothing wrong with it. However, if a promo picture evokes a strong emotion in you, celebrate your emotion and think what it means to you. What a great way to make MU more meaningful beyond simply painting your face.

Wasn't that from Cham Pale? The ''angry nipple'' one? LOL.

Yes you are right it was Cham Pale! I guess i was picturing Pret-a-Papier since that girl was wearing that stiff neutral dress.

Speaking of nips and MAC promos......the Glitter & Ice with Johnny's one nip freaked me out too!

yes!! i think it's the hair that i like the most to be honest... although i am a sucker for blonde hair! :)
My hair's way too curly for a look like that - you need the baby fine hair - they've sure got the big fluffy hair going on in the Shop Shop Shop promo photos, at least.

I'm with OctoberViolet and Piarpreet on this one too! Edgy is fine. And I understand that, on the runway & marketing, some artistic expression should be expected that obviously (like Mac-Guy pointed out) should not be considered translatable to everyday. However, promo that is specifically geared towards the makeup industry (market) does not require something as edgy as nipple! I would much rather focus on the unique use of the makeup and the MUA interpretation of the collection than lose the entire creativity of a collection on unecessary exposure.
I think all of us are smart enough to judge a collection for the products, but it's always nice to have some beautiful imagery to go along with it. And I think this Naturally Collection "promo sneak peak" is very wispy and beautiful. The softness gives a "delicate" vibe.

Good thing MAC gives us both edgy/crazy nipples in da house and also "back to reality" pics.

I'm a lil more conservative than most people I know about sharing the body, maybe my religion or culture or whatever, but to me it's distasteful and it turns me off a little bit. Mostly cos of the use of sexuality to make a statement (specially women), and because I'm just uncomfortable thinking they need ot grab that much attention.. like a little kid whose mom is in a conversation and starts screaming and getting negative attention for it.

I actually really like whoever is art directing the campaigns like Style Driven and now Shop Shop Shop and Too Reel - it's retro, it's glam, it's high fashion and the pictures seem to tell a bit of a story. I also like the simple, stylized stuff like the False Lashes image and Gareth Pugh. I think MAC's actually cut back on the oiled up, naked bodies look this past year.

exactly! Hopefully it was a screw up during the shoot for cham pale, like in normal lighting their was no nip but when flash came out and it was too late it appeared or something like that? Anyways, to me, as long as they don't intentionally do something off the wall racy (like full on nudity or something like that) and the products are good quality, it's not gonna stop me (the consumer) from purchasing the products I want (unless it's special packaging.......nude collection any1?)

nono photoshop could easily remove that nipple XD it's really easy... they left it because they want the nipple to be on the image ^^ (don't know why... I've never looked at it but now it's all your fault.. I've seen it!!!!! ) XDXDXD
