Hauled big time today!!!
Scarlet Ibis!!!! Not only is this a fantastic color....holy s**t is it a
phenomenal formula. I've been wearing it all day and let me tell you - it feels light as a feather, as if you're not even wearing any lipstick, it hasn't become drying in the slightest after hours of wear, AND OMG so completely non-transferrable - i just drank a giant glass of water and there isn't even the slightest ring of color deposited around the rim and zero fading or product removed from my lips. ALL IN A MATTE??!!!?? I feel like I went to the Alternate Dimension of Matte Lipsticks! I haven't had a chance to wear Party Parrot or Pink Pigeon all day yet, but if they've got this same formula, it really doesn't matter one jot if you have dupes for them - nothing will stack up to these mattes. I would say it's got all the good features of the mattenes, but with much superior smoothness of application and lasting power. Very psyched! This is about as close to fancy high end lipsticks that go for 3x the price as MAC has managed, other than with Amplifieds.
As for the color, on me - NC15 with green eyes/black hair - it reads more red than orange, but it's the perfect level of vibrant, without being too cartoon-y and it really brings out the green in my eyes. That's a great feature of orange leaning lipsticks for all you green and hazel eyed folks out there. I backed this baby up without a second thought. Between this and Runaway Red, I feel like I've finally got my perfect MAC reds.
Party Parrot is exactly like Impassioned on my skin tone, but again.....this formula is so awesome, it beats Impassioned hands down - and we're talking a color that I've never been without for 10+ years. Same thing goes for
Pink Pigeon - it's a touch less garish with less white undertones than Candy Yum Yum, but it's a little bit more brilliant with more blue than Rare Exotic mattene (which is the closest comparison, imo), but the formula is spectacular - even if you have dupes, you shouldn't miss it if you love brights.
Flamingo is very adorable too, although I felt like it was a touch too darling and sweet and virginal to require a back up for my tastes. I know, I know...I'm a bad old broad!
It is that great new lustre formula that's more opaque than in the past - the same one as in Semi Precious. In any case, it's far superior for a soft lip look than any of the lipsticks from Naturally, which were all very pretty, but not quite the perfect tones on me. They were just serviceable, rather than sensational, while Flamingo is a color that is above and beyond the norm of soft, gentle colors.
The nail polishes, while not an absolute necessity, are really well matched with the lipsticks. If you feel like having a perfectly coordinated look, SI plus
Oriele Orange is so incredibly chic and fun at the same time. Same thing for
Toco Toucan with Pink Pigeon. I actually wound up buying
Sandpiper, though, because it's the closest nude polish to my skin tone out of all the nude polishes I've seen from MAC and Essie this year - I've been holding out for the perfect mannequin hands and Sandpiper is it for me. I will probably wind up with the other polishes as well, especially Oriele Orange, since I love Scarlet Ibis so much.
As for the eye shadows -
Diamond Dove is a fantastic soft matte and very easy to work with. That came home with me along with
Early Bird. 'Dunno why people were dissing this one. It's so far beyond Free to Be, which I refused to buy every time it was in a collection even though I loved the color, since it just was a little bitch, application-wise. Meanwhile, Early Bird is just perfect - soft and lovely, with an easily buildable and controllable pigmentation. Remember how I was raving about Aurora on my large, puffy browbones? Well, this is the gorgeous matte coral equivalent. It just brightens up my eyes, rips the years right off and really brings out the green. I think this is a must-have if you have green, hazel or grey eyes and have prominent puffy browbones that most highlight colors are a little too light or too shiny for. I wanted to like
Robin's Egg, but the application was a little more demanding than Early Bird, plus it's obviously not as versatile. I might break down and get it plus
Silver Gull, which is another beautiful soft color with the sort of sparkle that's more easily managed for older eyes. If you liked that brown Velvet formula shade in the Leopard Luxe quad, it's worth it to take a look, especially if you do well with cool tones on your eyes.
All in all, a very winning collection! The lipsticks are to die for and I am officially gonna grab any more mattes MAC decides to put out in this formula. It's technology at its finest!
