MAC Interviews & Hiring Process

Does anyone know why some people are hired as freelancers and some are hired as permanent part time employees? Also under what circumstances does MAC hire a full time retail MUA?

freelancers are hired basically as training mac position they think they might have what it takes to become a full artist so think of it as another interview every time you work your trying to show u have what it takes to be come a permanent mac artist if they dont have what it takes they won't be called for hours to work and that is why mac is always hiring freelancers

permanent artist can be hired instead of being for freelance like i was. for a few reasons mac see you are what they want in a artist attitude level of skill level of knowledge and availability for the position at the counter not all counters have open positions to hire a permeant employee. so they will hire on freelancers with in turn will be able to work at all the mac location in the area if their are hours for them to pick up

mac full time employees come from within the company they are the ones who have proven themselves at the counter with everything given to them their goals are met an exceeded they really try to make a difference at the location. they are considered top sellers and great employees its very hard to become full time with mac. i work with people who have been there 5 years and are full time. unless you are at a store most counter location will have only the manger and the assistant manger of 3rd key as full time possibly one more depending on the volume of business the location does.

hope that answers your questions

I have a question. So I was told I was exactly what they were looking for and nailed the first portion of my interview and was told I was going on to the next part of the interview. Although they werent sure when they were going to do the demo part. She gave me a time frame and I am just waiting as expected. I just don't understand why is this process so drawn out? LOL Like I was SO EXCITED for my first interview and now I time has passed and I forget I even have the 2nd part of the interview coming up lol. LIke that saying. Out of sight out of mind. HAHA. I am just venting. I am so unpatient and was curious to know if anyone knew why the MAC hiring process is so drawn out? What's the point?? Is anyone in the LA area?? Thanks boy and girls =)

Goodluck girl:) I also use to work for Sephora and are trying out for MAC

thanks love! yeah sephora is okay, a great way to get into the cosmetic industry but i don't like how they run things. i've been wanting to be a color consultant and they put me as cashier, been waiting 6 months and they did tell me they were gonna send me to sos and i can start as color but nothing so done with that. the only thing i'm going to miss is my co-workers and gratis lol

I passed my first interview and they say their calling me this week. They told me to study all about MAC. I'm having a lot of fun studying for MAC, prepared for possible questions but as time goes by, I'm thinking that they might not call or hire me. :(( My resume was already sent to the manager and HR. The girl said they'll just call me but it's almost like 4 days had passed. I don't wanna go back to the counter unprepared (Or how I wanted to come by just a regular customer) or for the reason that I just want it to make it clear if I'd still be recieving a call. The manager might interview me on the spot and I might not be wearing black!! o____O What to do guys?? I really want this job so much!! TO the point i was redirected here. :(( Do i need to be patient and all? MAC has a pre-launching event here in our country for their ChenMan and SHop MAC Cook MAC collection 3 days after today, and i was invited. Should I just go by then? Or follow-up my interview before the event? o___O

With M.A.C, you have to be patient. Most of the time there is so much going on, and it's not that they are intentionally overlooking you, they are just swamped with the "everyday" things that need to be done. Yes, absolutely go to the ChenMan and Shop/Cook M.A.C event! Go in dressed in black and with flawless makeup. Do some shopping, and if you see the manager, simply say hello, so that you can jog their memory. More than likely, they will tell you to give them a call so they can schedule you for the next level of interviewing (demo portion).

Just don't give up, be persistent, yet patient. Keep us posted on how it goes.

So my local Nordies MAC counter is hiring, per Nordies careers website. I applied & sent my resume over last Monday & I called to talk to the cosmetics manager a few days later to see if she got a chance to look at my resume. She said that she had not, but would call HR to get them to send it over to her. I haven't heard back yet. Should I call her again or should I go down there to talk to her? I want to be persistent, but not bug the crap out of her! TIA!

I've eyed this thread for a least two years. I have finally decided to inquire at my fav counter and see if they're hiring. I had a dream the manager was excited about me applying. I'm hoping its a sign.

What was your 4th interview like? I've had 3so far in a matter of a week,I was told the regional manager would contact me for my 4th &final interview. Just curious as to how long it took for them to call on the 4th and what kind of questions they asked? I've been spoiled with how quickly they have set up the last three. :)

Hey! This happened to me when I was interviewed. (My first interview was over the phone) The best thing to do is to be patient. I realize it can seem like an eternity. I called the week after my phone interview, and they told me they would call me if I made it through to the next level of interviewing. So I waited another 2 weeks and they called me. So again, be as patient as you can, in the meantime, get as much product knowledge as you can. This site has an abundance of information that will be helpful. The artists here on this site are knowledgeable and sincerely willing to help you in any way possible. I wish you the best. Keep us posted on your progress.

Well, my interview was yesterday and I think it went great!!! I really liked Homa, she's not as scary as people make her out to be...lol...She's just brutally honest. If you aren't on point, she'll definitely let you know. It was a career call between 10-3 so girls were showing up all day. I came in at 10 and was in the 2nd group to be interviewed. She took 3 at a time. She asked us each about or retail experience, what hours we were wanting to work, and what locations we would like to work at. Then she asked all of us to explain our makeup on our face and rate it 1-5. The other 2 girls said 4.5-5 but I knew better thanks to Tiana! I said 3.5-4 because no one's perfect. She liked my answer and agreed nobody is perfect. The 1st girl she critiqued she didn't like that she had all frost eyeshadows on and she didn't have any lipstick on...that was a no no. The 2nd girl, I felt a little bad, she really critiqued her! Her eyeshadows weren't blended well, her eyelashes weren't put on perfectly and were to small for her eye shape, and she was wearing red lips with no lip pencil...Homa did not like that. When she got to me, I was a bit nervous! haha...She didn't have one bad thing to say! She said my eyeshadows were blended nicely, my foundation looked great and she liked my lips. I was so happy!! She did pass us all through to the next interview, the demo. She said she wanted to see if we could all apply makeup on other people. I should be getting a call next week for my demo! I'm so excited!

As much as I love PaparazziBoy, please ignore the statement that freelancers aren't as good and are just in training, as it's not true.

They stick you on as a freelancer if there are no perm positions available and they need more freelancers. They hire you as a perm artist if that's what they need at the moment. If they have both positions open, and they like you but maybe you're skills are lacking, at that point they would probably offer you the freelancing position instead of the perm position. But perm employees are in no way better or "deserved" the perm position more than the freelancer...it's not that way at all.

The only employees who are full time (more than 37 hours a week) are the manager, asst manager, and 3rd key. All new hires are given the least amount of hours and have to work their way up with hours based on tenure.

Sounds awesome- good luck on your demo :).. I think once a tougher interviewer likes you you're pretty golden. My recommendation for the demo now is to switch up your makeup a little... So if you did smokey eye nude lip for the 1st one, do nude eye red lip for the second. They like to see variety. And explain what you're doing as your doing it- including brushes, VG, etc.
