MAC for Marilyn

I finally tried my Beauty Powder today and I really like it. Disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm doing. This is my first time using a beauty powder, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

I used it as an all over face powder. I have the 129 brush, but thought it would be too compact for all over use. I didn't want to look like Ashy Larry. I started using the 187 because I know it's meant to diffuse color. The problem is that I felt the bristles were too long to properly buff out the powder and I felt like I had to keep dipping into the powder too much. I switched to my 182 Buffer Brush and I think it worked very well. It didn't pick up too much powder and I was able to buff everything out very easily.

I only applied the powder to half of my face. I liked what I saw, but I'm not able to explain why I like it. I just do. My skin did look matte and brighter. Maybe even smoother, but it wasn't anything drastic. Looking really close into the mirror, I could see tiny little powder flecks. I asked my friend if he thought one half of my face looks different from the other. He was able to pick out the side with the Beauty Powder and said my skin looked more evened out on that side, but that it was subtle difference. I don't know what I am, but I would guess NC/NW 45-50 if that helps.

I like the Beauty Powder and I'm glad I have it, but I would love to have a version for deeper skin tones. I think I was able to make the powder work, but I have to be really careful with how much I apply since it's so light. I didn't try it as a highlighter, but I think it would work fine for me.
CartoonChic,

Thanks for posting this!

I've put my bp away for special occasions so I'll dig it out to try again.

It will have to compete with the EDSF I just picked up. I'm really psyched about that one!

I think the right brush makes the biggest difference for the Beauty Powder. The same for the EDSFs. I will only use them as highlighters and the 130 brush works best for me. I can really target where I want the highlight to go with that brush and also blend it out.

I didn't do that for this collection, but I did with VV. I am a huge Disney fan and collector, especially Maleficent. Over time thanks mostly to CCOs, I have built up my collection so that I have 1 of almost everything in LE packaging and 2x of many things, one to use and one to save (though I will definitely use my BUs for things like Briar Rose, Heartless, etc. when the time comes). Some things I knew I would rarely, if ever use. For ex., there is very, very little likelihood I will ever use Wrong Spell lipglass more than a couple of times if even that much, but I bought it and a backup from a CCO anyway a few months ago just so I can keep one unopened for my own collecting sake and one opened for actual use if I so choose.

I think MAC appeals to a lot of people who are collector types in other areas. I know beyond the fact that I can actually wear their lipgloss and lipstick (I am super sensitive to smells and tastes when it comes to lip products), the LE aspect is what drew me in to the brand.

I would have only gotten 1 eyeshadow if not for the Marilyn factor (I got all 4), and I wouldn't have gotten the 1 dazzleglass I did if it was plain packaging. I did also think about getting a couple of the nail polishes just to save them (would likely never use them because I have too much polish as it is), but had to draw the line somewhere!

TY for posting that. I feel a little guilty getting a BU to save and using the other but who knows, I may eventually let go of the back up. There are so many Marilyn collectors I feel like this MAC collection was prolly a drop in the well for them, and technically she really had nothing to do with approving it, just as an inspiration. There was MM inspired jewelry on the HSN the other day, of course, she had nothing to do with it, other than the pieces were inspired (some of them) by pieces she actually wore.

I do really like all of the photos on the products as memorabilia and love how all of them are a little different.

I feel a little less silly now. At least I am not planning to sell these on ebay for hundreds of dollars mark up (well, unless I need an expensive operation in the future or something like that)

Happy to hear this! I didn't get the MM BP, but I am planning on getting an EDSF and was thinking I'd want to apply it with the 130. It's hands-down my favorite face brush!

I originally got the 130 with the Heavenly Creatures collection to use for the MSFs. I find it works really well with the EDSFs because it's dense enough to pick up the product and the flat top makes it easy to blend. It's now one of my favorite brushes too. How do you use it?

I use mine a few different ways, basically for any liquid or cream product that goes on my face: liquid/cream highlighters (cream colour base, lustre drops, etc), cream blushes (though I rarely wear them), or foundation. I much prefer using the 130 for my foundation as opposed to the popular 187. I have better control with it, it's easier to cover the smaller areas (around the nose in particular), and it's great for really buffing product into the skin.

Thanks for the tips. I don't have any liquid or cream products yet, but I'll try the 130 with them when I do. And that's one of the reasons why I love the 130; that it covers smaller areas. I have a small face and I don't think I have a lot of cheek area. The 129 and 187 seem too big to use sometimes, but the 130 seems to fit just right. Lol, Goldilocks and the three brushes. I know that was lame but it made me laugh.

Well, I'm not coughing/sneezing so I couldn't resist another second. I know this collection is old news to most, but it's new to me! My thoughts:

Forever Marilyn BP: This is subtle, but lovely. I was worried that it would be too light or too pink for me but it's neither. It doesn't absorb oil well enough for me to skip blot powder, so I used that first on the t-zone and then very lightly applied/buffed FM as an all over face powder. It's different than NARS Nico, but it's a similar product in that it brightens and gives a bit of glow without any of the shine or sparkle of many other products.

The Perfect Cheek: Perfect natural flush and a great complement to deep lippies. I have Blushbaby, Prism and NARS Douceur, and I find this pinker than any of them. I like it so much that I bought another for my daughter as a Christmas gift. I think it will be flatterign on her cooler tones as well.

Showgirl: I am normally not a fan of grey, but I love this blue-grey shade. I'm wearing it today sheerly on my outer lid and crease (Arena on the remainder of the lid which is my personal MLBB shade) and then more strongly as liner on the upper/lower lash area. This might actually be my favourite MM item (it's tough to choose between this and TPC). I think I like it as much as I do because it's different from anything else I have.

Deeply Adored: This is brighter than I expected and as pink as I can wear. I had expected it to be more like VG1, but the pink undertones and brightness make it very different. They are certainly not dupes. I've had it one for a couple of hours (I used burgandy as a liner) and I've decided that I really like it. I probably won't wear it to the office (I prefer the more muted Moscow or Amsterdam for that), but I definitely like it. It seems to have deepened on my lips, but perhaps I've just gotten used to it. It seemed much pinker when I first put it on. I'm glad I got it although I have more reds than anyone needs.

Charmed I'm Sure: This is a beautiful shade with a great finish, but it's way too pink for me. I tried it the day it arrived and again today and it will not be wearable on me without work (offsetting liner/gloss, etc). Since I have so many red lippies that are great just the way they are, I can't be bothered to try and make this work, and I know it's a highly coveted item. I don't usually sell stuff, but I'm going to list this one on the swap board for the Canadian retail price less taxes (only fair since I did try it twice).

I have three red liners (Red Enriched, More to Love and Burgandy) so I didn't bother getting any of these.

You crack me up CartoonChic! It sounds like you're doing it correctly, trying out brushes to see which works best for you, etc. Just based on your photo/avatar you look more NC than NW. I'm glad you got the BP and hope you'll try more in the future.....

Thanks. I'm learning as I go along. I still find all of the different types of face powders confusing, but I've reached the point to where I'm ready to experiment with them. I've been learning different techniques in baby steps so I don't get too overwhelmed. It makes it more fun for me that way instead of intimidating. I may be ready to try cream blush next after I play around with face powders some more. Yay progress!
