MAC x Archie's Girls (Betty & Veronica) Collection Discussion (February 2013)

I'm probably in the minority, but I don't like heavily pigmented eyeshadows. I hate the Naked palette, and it seems to be everyone's HG. I found it challenging to get a light enough application.

I don't like a heavy makeup look, particularly now that I'm getting older. I rocked 80s makeup looks when younger but find a more subtle makeup look to be more flattering now. That doesn't mean I won't wear a bold red lip or that I have a no makeup look, but simply that I find a more subdued application looks better and is more appropriate (professionally, etc).

I love EDES - I have five. I also love MAC's standard eyeshadows; I have two complete 15-pan palettes, 3 duos and a few loose singles. There's nothing wrong, IMO, with their regular eyeshadows. There's no question that I think some shades are easier to work with than others, but part of that is personal preference (I don't like overly frosty/metallic wet look shades as a rule) and part application technique (I use a VERY light hand when applying some of my fave uber pigmented shades like Peacock, Bottle Green and Indian Ink and don't like shades that can't be applied in a sheer way). Having said that, any company with this many launches and products WILL have some duds. I expect that. I've really come to love NARS e/s and blush, but I think the entire Andy Warhol collection is a massive disappointment. I didn't like some of MAC's launches this year either. That doesn't mean I hate MAC or that others are 'wrong' who liked them, simply that we all have preferences and use products in slightly different ways and that will play into our perception of a product's quality.

Whether or not T's opinions reflect many of those here has been debated multiple times since I arrived. I personally greatly value her swatches and pics; they've been tremendously helpful to me. As for opinions, we're all entitled to our own and I have no problem with someone having a different one than mine. Reading a variety of perspectives on a product is helpful; in the end I make up my own mind. I don't think that she gives MAC consistent low marks; I've seen plenty of A ratings lately. She posted an update earlier this week to let people know that the Strength lippies had been restocked so those who missed out could get them. She doesn't care for MES and is pretty up front about that while acknowledging that some others love them. The woman is entitled to her opinion and I've never understood the distain that is sometimes heaped on her for sharing her thoughts on her own blog . It's impossible to please everyone and I think that a blogger should be true to his/her beliefs and values. People are free to read or not. If I consistently don't agree with someone's opinions or don't enjoy their blog, I just don't go back. Problem solved.
I agree. I also don't know why people here are saying she hates MAC. Why would she hate the company? She gives her honest opinion about their products. Some she loves, some she's on the fence about, others she finds to be extremely lacking in quality. Not to mention they gave her the opportunity to create her own eyeshadow last year, which is something she's very proud of and grateful for. So I'm not getting the logic that she "hates MAC". (And considering that there are people here who dislike her for whatever reason, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if someone lied about her using their photos/info without permission. Not calling anyone out. Just something to think about. It can get negative very quick when she's brought up, and I rather dislike that. This is supposed to be a FUN community.)

Also, I think a good quality product has to have the ability to appear highly pigmented AND low pigmented. It all depends on how you apply it, whether using a different brush (or even fingers) or how much product you pick up with your tool of choice. For me, it's quite easy to make a shadow that has high pigmentation (Brash, for example) to be less intense and a touch sheer by using a big, fluffy brush or even using my finger. With chalky and dry shadows, it's much harder to make them show up and be noticeable.

I agree! I also don't understand why it's not okay for her to not like a MAC product but some on this forum peddle everything MAC makes like it's candy, the best thing ever, and they can do no wrong. Yes, I know it's a MAC forum but, not everything they make will be or has been great. With that said, I trust her opinion because I believe she will always be honest which is more than I can say for some on this forum.

Well, she stole my pics without permission or crediting me, and thats no lie. The proof is on here, tho it's been years ago.

I've never tried Brash. I usually use the 217 when I'm applying a crease/outer corner colour that's more intense than I want to wear 'full strength'. The 239 is my favourite brush for packing colour onto the lid.

I like shadows that are soft/silky enough to apply and blend well but that stay put and don't generate fallout. I always wear primer but I don't want to have to baby a shade and fuss with glitter glues and the like; all good if you don't mind the work and are so inclined. I'm not. The pressed piggies don't do it for me for that reason.

I'm on Team Veronica as well. I do, however, like that Betty is an animal lover, but besides that her colors are a little too "sweetie pie" for me. Veronica is more of a vixen and her colors are more my type.

I agree! But do I REALLY need "Ronnie Red"?? I am up to my eyeballs in red lippies. I've only used AP once since I got it. LOL

I'm with you on the red lipsticks. I love my Marilyn ones, but I don't reach for them that often. I also have Russian Red, Cockney, Ruby Woo, Ruffian Red plus a few others that I can't even think of at the moment. I am "trying" really hard not to buy any more reds for awhile unless... it's unique and different enough. I really really want a blackened red lipstick. If you like purple you might want to check out Lilinah's pics of Grid and Lust in the Strength collection forum. BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

YES! I fogot about my Prince Noir lippie. I guess I never considered it a red lipstick due to it's purple/red color. I have to find it and wear it again. I really have too many lipsticks, but...I'm an addict and I can't help myself.

It was supposed to be repromoted last year... well, and then it did not happen. Maybe we get lucky in 2013.

I agree completely. She trashed Carine Rotfield and I love both of those face kits. She trashed the MM eyeshadows and while I only bought one of the eyeshadows, I thought the quality was good. I think each person's skin is different. What is one person''s treasure can be another's trash and vice versa depending on your skin. Color, moisture level, texture, etc

I didn't mean to spark a T convo. I was in no way bashing her. I have always liked her blog and her. I was talking about the peoples comments. Back to the subject...I can't believe we don't have a color story yet. We've seen pics up the bootay. Heck even before strength busted out. I am so scared that this is going to sell lightning fast. There will be some serious stalking for this collection!
