the photos don't look very nice, but the reviewer said they're gorgeous....is there maybe something lost in the photography of these things? presumably they tested and thought about these seriously if they're making them perm....?

I get the feeling they are trying to mimic the Inglot Double Sparkle formula, (matte with shimmer). But MAC doesn't do buttery matte formulas unless their the MAtte2 ones, which leaves you this chalky mess in the swatches. >_<

No worries! Have you tried gold deposit! It's beautiful on deeper skintones! Based on the descriptions I'd suggest looking at Rio and Lust (if you can find one with more cranberry/less pale pink. :wink:

I know a lot of MAC diehards think Carbon is awesome, but I personally disagree.
Carbon is just too much work for a black e/s for me. Yes it can darken the crease, but if you are looking for the darkest matte black, look elsewhere.
There are many MATTE blacks that are so much more pigmented and true black than Carbon. I didn't figure that out until I had bought Carbon in the single pan. Then I bought a quad with a Carbon in it, actually I may have three Carbons because of MAC always putting them in quads.
Sugarpill has an awesome black, I don't own it but will soon.

NYX has a great matte black e/s as well, and I personally love UD Blackout. Very blendable and stays on throughout the night...no matter what fun you are having!

In the BeNeLux we have a drugstore brand called Catrice, from Germany, and they have a terrific black called The Captain Of The Black Pearl. It's black with glitter.

Exactly. Whoever said they look like those Milani eyeshadow strips, I totally agree. How are you even supposed to fit you brush in the pan without picking up other shadows? Looks like they were trying to avoid bulky packaging but still give ample product, but they failed a little on practicality/utility.
