I hope no one takes this the wrong way, but is there anyone who actually likes this packaging, not just can tolerate it? I completely understand that everyone has different tastes. I'm just starting to wonder how this will be received in stores.
I actually like the packaging, but the R is just too much for the packaging.

It doesn't bother me. It's not like I wear the lipstick tube or quad on my shirt or something. I'm all about the product. That bronze quad will be mine. And the majority of the collection will fly off the shelves because of the hype of MAC plus Rihanna alone.

After catching up on this thread, I'm really excited for the release but not too fond of the huge R. Looks a bit thrown together!

I am in agreement with a lot of others about the 'R'. The loopy lettering is cute enough...R is overkill. Sigh...I don't know. I'm not doing the online thing for this collection with that whole debacle, but I don't want splooge looking white stuff on my lippies either....I may even open them up before I leave the counter to make sure.

I'm inclined to agree with you, but I wonder how non Rihanna fans will respond. I think there was a lot hype around the summer collection not just because of the fan factor. I think many people were drawn to the products themselves. I know that was the case for me. If mac keeps the production small, which they usually do, I guess it won't matter.

I am one of the oddballs who will be strongly swayed by the name of something (Lust For Life- when will an Iggy Pop infused LG come around again?) and the look of the packaging. I'm not pronouncing any moral verdict on it but even as a child of the 80's the Antonio Lopez product would have to be ridiculously Good Looking to get me past my wince at the mildly Nagel-esque packaging. Again, that is simply my preference- I know it might keep me from discovering great items. But I'm also old and stuck in my ways

If I ever buy LFL. I'll do it for the name

And regarding to this picture, in my personal opinion I think this was a bad looking collection. It looks old fashioned to me. But there are ppl that love it for all that going on in the packaging. Same with the Rihanna's collection.→→ just my personal opinion.
Actually this was from a relatively recent high fashion designer's collection. MAC didn't make the packaging. The designer - or artists associated with them - painted the cases. The look went along with the cutting edge but romantic clothing. I just can't remember the designer's name.

And what's inherently wrong with old fashioned? Old fashioned can be a very good look. 1930s fashion can be extraordinarily elegant, with beautifully draping bias cut satins (that's 80 years ago - seems like old fashion to me). And the classic Chanel jacket dates, as best as i can tell, from the early 1950s (that's 60 years ago - seems like old fashion to me). Both high fashion and street fashion frequently borrow from past fashion. Some people wearing these styles may not know their history, but they're still wearing stuff that owes its cut or shape or color to something "old fashioned" - that current high fashion peplum - common in the 1940s, for example.

I am not crazy about the style the cases are painted because it's too foofy and sweetsie-girly for me.

I posted the photo to show people that if they really don't want to be seen with that ugly RiRi packaging, they can customize it to suit themselves.

Hey, "Lust for Life" was a 1956 movie about the life of Vincent Van Gogh, starring Kirk Douglas! How often will a V van G infused LG come around again?

OK, got it. The hand painted MAC cases were from Meadham-Kirchhoff Spring 2012.

Here are some of the looks they made for their show. Not exactly old-fashioned
