I was just color matched at sephora and apparently I'm yellow undertoned in my face and pink in my neck. So my makeup always looks a little off.

It's normal. I lean more yellow/neutral, but my lower half is very pink!

Pardon the silly question, but how do you know what your undertone is? I think I lean more yellow but I'm not sure. I recently got match to MM foundation in 3.0. The gal told me my undertone but I can't remember if it was pink or yellow.

Me too I know from school a colored IS ablack person it was a racial term in South Africa (not a good one either) soooo it's safe to assume woc are of African decent.....I'd assume it's from something like that anyway? But my thing is are mixed black people (like myself) considered? Lol I need a historian or something in here

Honestly I don't think it even matters just use whatever colors work best for you (makeup). But the previous poster is right it's an umbrella term for anyone who isn't white. So if you're not white feel free to call yourself a WOC or not..

Pardon the silly question, but how do you know what your undertone is? I think I lean more yellow but I'm not sure. I recently got match to MM foundation in 3.0. The gal told me my undertone but I can't remember if it was pink or yellow.

Finding my undertone has been a strange journey. Because I'm deathly pale, some MUA want to put darker tones on me because they think I don't want to be so pale (I love being pale, grrrrr). That happened a lot when I lived in Virginia, not so much in Portland, OR. When I was at a NARS counter, I was identified as yellow undertone, but at CHANEL I was told I needed a rosy color. Sephora has a camera that is amazing at finding your tones, and their matches look really good on me. I found an article that might help here: http://www.paulaschoice.com/expert-advice/makeup-tips/_/makeup-tips-tricks-skin-tone-categories I hope this was somewhat helpful. I always thought I was cool, but I think that peaches and warm, yellow reds look best on my lips. I love Lady Bug for this reason.

Sorry, but that article is sooo incorrect! I burn easily, within 15 mins, which according to the article means I have a cool undertone, which is incorrect. And the whole vein thing annoys the shit out of me. In the exact same spot on the same arm i have both green and blue/purple veins. Articles to determine your undertone are worthless. The only way to tell is to look at your skin. If you see a more golden tone to your skin, you have a warm undertone, if you see a more pinky blue tone, you're cool. If you're fair, it's easier to tell if you tan a bit. When i tanned years ago, i turned suuuuper golden, like the damn oscar statue (as you may have seen on IG [@]miss0annette[/@])! But this an be tricky if you're black, as some black women who are an NC can tan to an NW.

Don't apologize. I know you were trying to be helpful. I just wanted to let people know that it was incorrect/outdated information. The whole vein thing has been used for AGES. It's so old and outdated, yet people/blogs still post it, and people unknowingly think it's correct information. That's all.

Ok. I just have the damnest time trying to determine my foundation color. Just looking at my skin is not enough. It's red, yellow, pale, never tans. No one can agree on it.
