on me they are totally different cos sk pulls a burgundy wine color which was what i wanted fod to pull on me which it did on others, but fod pulled a brown on me. i doubt that happens cos no 2 mac lippies are a dupe they might be close but never a dupe
The thing is, there are only so many colors in the world. They're bound to do very similar shades, if not the exact same. We just need to make sure we're paying attention to our own collections and refrain from buying colors that look the same as ones we already have (that's if you mind having 2 of the same shade).
yes u are right thats why now I check my stash I don't fall for the hype anymore I can just about tell from swatches if a color is going to be similar to something I have already have checking your stash is key

I'm just repeating what former MAC employees have told me.
I believe it... RRW & Ruby Woo are almost identical.

My guess is that you're probably over applying a bit, based on what you're saying about them being so dark (as well as patchy). The color on these doesn't get super dark unless you're putting a lot on. I wouldn't use a lip brush except to touch up the edges - I find using a brush with these causes drags and patches, even if you're trying to be careful.

Just do a light layer on the lower lip first. Don't worry if it's patchy. Then do the upper lip with a normal layer and a light hand, going deep into the underside of the lip. By the time you're done with that, the lower lip will be set up, so do another layer on top to smooth it all out well but don't worry if some spots seem a little uneven. What happens is in a minute or so, after it fuses with your skin from the heat of your body, it will automatically smooth out some more.

Don't do the lip smoosh to blend with these and wait a good while before blotting too. Dark colors take longer to dry and set up on the lips just in general, although these are SO much better than most dark purple lipsticks.
I have had a few go rounds with matte lippies and the appropriate application is essential.

I have also learned that with a little help from my silicone friends, I use a tiny dollop of any silicone primer and after the first application, dab a drop on both upper and lower lips and blend with my fingers. This instantly smoothes roughness or patches and then you can apply more color if you feel you need or want it. Do not apply any silicon to the outer edges of lips.

The original formula/ name for the RRW was "Orange Ruby Woo".

Believe it or not -- I can post pics from the product and print... it was 2011.

and yes, more silicone was added to the fomula.

But the long engagement and long distance is killin me. You rocked it my dear, you just look lovely beyond words.

BTW, folks having trouble with patchiness, this helped: First, I primed with balm. (I think any will do, MAC P&P is my HG, but I had the Fresh one handy, so its what I used, I am sure petroleum jelly or olive oil works fine too.) Don't press hard, use a light hand. Build up if you need too. No patchiness at all for me, I used Instigator today. I even wore it to work, cuz F em if they can't take a joke here, I am wearing purple today, folks. No patchiness on me at all. Also, on these mattes, I notice if I keep them in my pocket (or in my bra if I don't have a pocket, sorry if that's TMI) and they warm up a little, no patchiness. Even with those super dry Retromattes, warming up helps immensely with application.

HTH someone

Warming these lipsticks up is 100% important. Remember, if you put a light enough layer on, they will still warm and set for a while and they definitely smooth out just like magic like that, without being absolutely microscope perfect when first applied. I find the colors become richer and more vibrant too, once they've had time to blend with my lips. LOVE.

One person's perfect dupe is another's drastically different shade, especially with these newer formulas. That's one of the great things about Specktra - so many different people post photos, it's easier to see the whole range of possibilities from one lipstick.

As makeup lovers, 'gotta admit that we all probably have multiples of colors all in the same general family. So non-makeup lover would think our whole collections were dupes, lol.

I believe you... I was just saying Ruby Woo and RRW look almost identical when swatched next to each other.

Well, I ended up with all the lippies... Instigator is suppppppper dark on me, almost black. And the only way I like Punk Couture on me is with Stone lip pencil underneath (it gets really dark on me too). Studded Kiss is alright. I really want to get Brick because I think the two together will give me the look I'm looking for. And surprisingly Hautecore is the most impressive. It's such an opaque, creamy, matte black. And I have no idea how, but I almost feel like it's wearable too lol.

Girl try it over Close Contact or another nude. It is then very wearable, work appropriate and AMAZEBALLS!!!

The miracle of silicone! Also, I didn't quote it, but you were saying not to apply silicon lip primer too close to the lip edges. What's the reason for that? I never bothered with primer until the dastardly Talk That Talk made me run out and get P&P Lip.

I've honestly not needed primer with any of the lippies in this collection, although I've used it with PC when I knew I was going to be out eating and drinking and wanted to stay as picture perfect as possible.

There's something about the shade of black in Hautecore plus the way it melds with your natural lip color that is particularly flattering. It REALLY sets off the skin beautifully. Best black ever!

There's a noticable difference between the two on me. It all depends on your body chemistry and the pigmentation in your lips.
Yeah on me they're practically the same. But I always reach for my RRW first just because its smoother for me to apply
