MAC Early Buzz - News for Upcoming Collections in 2014

It is really refreshing to see you ladies expressing my feelings lately. I would rather be a loyal Mac customer but I honestly don't see Mac's loyalty to me . I had bought two Marc Jacobs blushes, Tantalizing in December from Sephora. One was for me and the other was part of a friend's Christmas gift. The MJ blushes were $28 basically not much difference from what I had paid for Mac Lavish Living blush taxes not included . The MJ blushes are enclosed in a cute pouch with a mirror and mini brush , packaged very refined and sophisticated. Not to mention the color being amazingly beautiful. This year I am being more choosy and would rather buy less makeup but more quality items that will get a lot of use. I am willing to add a few extra bucks to get what I think I can't afford, be pleased and happy with less items but better value for my hard earned money. I do not think its fair for any company to do the same old thing over and over again but still expect more money without obvious major significant changes.

Is it driving anybody else nuts that we know about so many collections (Fantasy of Flowers, Proenza, Maleficent, Playland, Pedro Lourenco, Osbournes,...) but don't have ANY color story?!

It's driving me bonkers as well! At least throw a colour story at us!

Secrecy is part of MAC's marketing strategy. When the time is ripe, the color story will unfold (or somebody will spill the beans).

Honestly..not at all. They'll launch collections, some of which will contain products of interest to me and most without, that I was perfectly content without. At this point in my life, I'm only concerned with the quality of the products I buy and not all all with artist collaborations, special packaging or themes.

MAC's LE marketing strategy put me off some time ago and while I will continue to buy products I want if they're available, I'm way over worrying about whether I can score an item or not. I've discovered a host of other makeup lines, many of which offer products that are at least as good (if not better) than MAC at a similar price. I could lose sleep to stalk an item (again - not likely) or I could wait for reviews and swatches of a competitor product and order it from Sephora (with samples, promotions and often a discount of some kind) and have it delivered to my home free of charge.

I bought two 10 pan Inglot palettes in December - the shadows have twice the product at roughly half the cost and they perform just as well. I got 20% off Naked 2 and $20 off Naked 3. And MAC wants $120 Canadian for a 15 pan neutral palette that I can't customize? Pass. I have a couple of MAC 15 pans already that I enjoy, but I won't expand beyond that.

I have been buying from MAC for many years and the majority of my stash is MAC. They were my default for almost 20 years, but their business practices have changed my buying preferences.

I agree. The times where I was LE crazy and used to buy from every collection are long gone. Right now I don't even remember the last LE item I bought. Might have been Feed the Senses? Not sure if there was anything after that, that seems a long time ago. I now know what I want, I only wear natural and neutral looks, so I'm not interested in a lot of MAC's colours anymore, pretty much anything that's bright (OK, blush maybe), glittery, etc.
I just would love to know the collection info a couple of months or at least weeks in advance so I can plan ahead (especially since I'm on a low-buy this year). There a some things I like from the promo pics we've seen, so I'd love to know the product names / descriptions (it could be a repromote I already have).

MAC's secrecy is just annoying to me. Other brands release their info much earlier, which makes me more excited for those collections and destracts me from MAC. So in my case I say MAC's strategy is not working.

iiiiim just saying whether ur paying $50 for a tom ford or $15-17 for mac either way ur paying for the name n packaging esp when they add an extra $2 for special packaging. I think the only difference between the 2 other than the price is ur gonna get wut u pay for. I remember first getting into makeup I could NEVER fathom paying more than $20 for a lipstick yet later down the line I tried CD lip glow n quiff'd   luckily I had a nordy note to cushion the fact its $30 but it was the holy grail lip balm to change my life and now im on my 2nd tube. I go through em within 6 months n will continue to drop 30 on em cuz it works for ME!! now that im venturing into higher end im gonna be strategic n get wearable colors but I definitely see where ur coming from. people can spend 15 twice for a single mac color (whether its an under performing finish or not) and "backup" which is $30... while i'd rather start usin that same price as one higher end.
The cd lip balm is wonderful I have a little lefted I barely use up anything but mines is almost gone

I see both sides of the coin. I get that Mac thrives off the hype of LE items. Ive been buying mac since 2008, regularly buying since 2011 and know I've certainly rushed into buying mac LE before I could think about wether I actually would get enough use out of it. I love that other companies release their info so early as it means I can plan my finances way in advance. I know there's been times I've wanted to buy more mac than I could afford because by the time the collections reveal themselves I couldnt save up enough in time!

Hellama late reply, but I have Tom Ford's Aphrodisiac. Tomorrow, if I'm not running late getting ready for work, I'll think I'll make a point of wearing it. =)

I'm posting this here since there's a little bit of everything in this pic. My guesses: a Proenza lipstick, FOF MSF, blush & Cremesheen Glass, glosses that seem to be Mineralize and a CC P+P loose powder (are those the color correcting ones that were supposed to come out?) and a compact, which I assume is the CC compact.
