I agree. The color has to really be unique for me to dig in my wallet and pay twice the price of a normal tube of Mac lipstick. I wonder if Mac is trying this price point to see if fans will pay whatever price Estée Lauder wants to set it at for their product. We see this with Nars raising their price for the Perm Audacious collection to $32. IMO, it is not worth it and I'm a BIG fan of Nars.

I can't recall the exact prices, but the designer collections from Mac have always been priced quite a bit higher. While they've gradually been raising prices over the years, I wouldn't take this as a sign that they're about to make a big jump.

I think the packaging will attract YSL/Tom Ford/Guerlain/Dior etc fans. The ad is very Vogue magazine. MAC fans will be able to take their time to swatch and try on, knowing the lipsticks won't instantly sell out given the price point.

The packaging does look remarkably similar to YSL (which ironically feels really cheap and scuffs easily), so I definitely think they're courting those customers. What surprised me is how little the packaging looks like something from Prabal Gurung. He's known for very sleek, sporty-luxe clothing, quite modern. Although I'm sure they were involved, the brand really isn't reflected in the packaging. Looking forward to seeing all the products though. It's always about the products.

The more I look at the packaging the less I like it. And I feel I'd have to adore it to pay $30 for a lipstick! Packaging isn't everything, but I'd definitely want to display it on the top of my makeup desk, so I don't know. I think it's the chain link fence thing, not feeling it
