some other luxury brands might be more $$$ than mac but they have usually only 3-4 collections a year with less items... it is not crazy like with mac. you do not buy EVERYTHING but carefully consider and buy only things that you really like and would wear. so you still spend less money. dior revamped they whole eyeshadow quint line  NARS has been getting almost all of my money in the past couple of years.
Strangely, I find that buying more expensive brands makes me think harder about what I'm getting and how often I'll use it. When I first started buying Mac, it was a pricey brand compared to what I used to get, which was drugstore stuff, but as I still felt like "hey, this is just the same price as a couple of pints, so it's no big deal". The higher and brands force me to think about whether I value the product more compared to what else I could buy with the same money.
I hate that movie so much along with that vile Pasolini film (I don't want to write the name of the movie because it may be a trigger warming for some people).  I read a synopsis about A Serbian Film, and the movie sounds like a bad mess.
I don't want to drag us off topic, but I had to mention that I'm pretty sure I guessed which Pasolini you meant right off. I've been told that his other stuff is brilliant and that I just happened to see the ones that are off-putting... And I also wanted to make it clear that my earlier comments weren't about Serbian films, but about "A Serbian Film" in particular, which isn't very Serbian at all, just a rehashing of American (and to some extent italian) horror tropes. Out of curiosity, I know we have information on the Lightness of Being collection for Boxing Day, but is there going to be a second collection at the same time? The last few years, Mac has done two collections simultaneously that are like opposite sides of a coin- soft/ vibrant, warm/ cool, etc.

I so agree with this. With the high end brands I only buy something if I'm sure I'll be able to use it. I have to buy a lot of stuff sight unseen, so maybe I won't absolutely adore it, but it will be be used and I will like it, if not love it. With MAC I'll often buy something just to see if I can wear a particular color. I recently bought Styled in Sepia and VG Riri2 thinking they'd probably look awful on me, I'd never do that with a more expensive brand.

MAC is really expensive where I live so when I can't buy from the US site suddenly I don't want half as much stuff. I need to start being just as selective when the prices are cheaper.

Dior eyeshadows are definitely hit or miss. Have you tried the Diorshow Fushion Mono eyeshadows? Most of the shades perform very well. Since Dior reformulated their nail polishes they have become my favorite by far. The wear is amazing I just apply two coats of nail polish and use Chanel's top coat. Chanel's nail polishes are now my second favorite, they wear well on me just not as well as Dior. I just wish Dior nail polish had a more unique shade range. Have you tried Marc Jacobs make up or Too Faced Melted Lipsticks? Lancome and Estee Lauder tend to be pretty basic for the most part, but I'm eyeing Lancome's Holiday collection pretty much just for a cream eyeshadow in Rouge and Estee Lauder's new lipsticks look pretty good.

I overlooked the single eye shadows because of the palettes, whoops. For eye shadows I mainly buy from Urban Decay, Too Faced (I have two palettes), then Mac (mainly singles), and Guerlain (usually the 4 color quads). I've been keeping an eye on Nars and Sugarpill when it comes to eye shadows, and will possibly buy from them pretty soon. I haven't tried Marc Jacob's makeup, but I do like Too Faced's Melted Lipsticks. Unfortunately I haven't bought any of them because I have dupes for nearly every color, so once I finish with the dupes, then I'll go ahead with the Melted Lipsticks. I also love their La Crème lipsticks, they're creamy and moisturizing.

I agree 100%. I'm curious too about the possibility of another December 26 collection besides Lightness of Being. If there is one, that could be trouble for my wallet.

Dior has one of the best polishes on the market. maybe you are just not used to brush shape and thick gel formula

I have not tried the new formula yet but I don't really have any complaints about the old one either.

As for Mac in 2015, I hope my lists will be short. My wallet would be happy!

I think almost every brand can offer something great.

Lancome - mascaras
Urban - eyeshadow, primers, eyeliners
NARS - blushes
Guerlain - bronzers , meteorites

Clinique, lancome, clarins -skincare
clarins also great body care
I totally agree. All I have from UD is eye makeup.

I think YSL has some great lip products. I love glossy stains!

Eye/Waterline safe?
I use my Chromagraphic pencil allll the time. It's great on the waterline, but I also love to throw it in my purse as a mess free quick concealer fix. It is perfect when your eye makeup starts to look a little beat and worn, just smudge a little Chromagraphic pencil under your eyes. It's also great for spot concealing, it doesn't smear off like creamier concealers.

I like sheer glossy and kind of shimmery because nothing matte and opaque doesn't work for me so I would say Chanel rouge coco shines, I love MAC too I have gazillion of mac lipsticks. Lancome has amazing line L'absolu which has great moisturizing formula
I know YSl has great lipsticks too
