Guerlain discussion

I don't understand why everything has to appeal to the young people. Mature women need products too, and they are not necessarily the same as the young people want. In-between women (I am 36, not exactly young, but also not mature yet, lol) also need specific products. And every age bracket has also a different budget. Students usually have not the same funds available than people well into their careers. So, I personally hate that everyone wants to appeal to the young ones.

I agree it sucks. I have watched it backfire when a company revamps for a new target group. Most people work well past 65 now. Woman delay starting families, and marriage. How many people in their 20's still live with Mommy and Daddy??? As in have them pay their bills, do their laundry, support them. Yes, I use my parent's house as a base. Since I never where I will be at or for how long. In the States or abroad. Need a steady address for my makeup goodies to be shipped!!!!

But I am here a few days a month, then gone for no idea how long. When I was in grade school, I had the oldest father, he was 34 when I was born. Yet now, that is young for a father. So the companies are trying to figure out how to increase sales and keep everyone happy.

I don't have a problem with them trying to target a younger crowd who will someday grow into loyal mature customers. The problem is which sector of the younger generation are they appealing too? There are some of us younger people who like the classiness, elegance and non-tacky packaging of Guerlain's products. I wouldn't try to compete with MAC's target base, but better yet maybe NARS', Lancome's etc. who are more mid-level and whose customers won't mind paying an extra $15 for a more luxury item. I feel them going from the gorgeous tortoise shell and wooden packaging to these summer swimsuit style stuff is so not Guerlain lol. I like the colours, but they wouldn't make me more intent on buying from the brand and I could see them being a deterrent to the current loyal customer base.

That's the one. Anyone knows anything about this? I've Not managed to find any info anywhere.
I think someone earlier said it might have been an employee special item for the opening of the new factory. Other than that, I haven't heard a thing. I quite like the bees and the factory lol.

Also I don't see how the current trend is appealing to the youth!! All they have done is move from their previous packaging to a lot cheaper version while the pricing remains the same. Or maybe down by a dollar or two! All I can see is cuts made in manufacturing cost while the retail remains the same and no radical change in the target crowd!

Here is a quick swatch of the Terre D Ete. It's swatched heavily on the bottom and lightly on the top. I wore it yesterday and I loved the peachy warmth it gave my skin, it made my face look alive and healthy. I'm light-medium with yellow undertones. It's not very pigmented, so I had to build the color up. The gold overlay comes off immediately and is pretty much gone on the side I used. There are two shades once the gold is gone. The main warm peachy color, then the sun rays are bronze. Beneath the gold overlay, it's bronze. It lasted all day on me on a hot day. So I'm really happy with it and I still LOVE the tea scent. I used the left side where the gold is nearly gone.

They seemed to digress with their summer packaging all together---those various colored silicone frisbee disks and now this. Maybe they're playing to a different
audience or something

They are. I was told that they're changing their strategy and aiming for a younger audience that may be more price sensitive. Think about the price of the powders- a few dollars cheaper than Chanel Les Beiges, etc and the price of the new fragrances. They're also doing advertising for the first time.

Makes sense! Good luck finding that young audience!!!

Or it could be those pain in the butt accountants (Daddy comes to mind). As use cheaper housing for product, reduce amount in the package (has anyone looked to see???) and keep the price the same or increase slightly. Think of going to a restaurant with a salad bar. They use to give you a dinner plate, now you get a tea cup saucer. Price still the same, but no way can get the same amount of food. As Australian Outback did with their salads and potatoes. Or McDonald's, use one less slice of cheese on their double cheeseburgers.

I'm so, so glad you love the product!!!!!  What are your thoughts on the packaging????
Thanks! The packaging! They went the cheapo route for sure! For $85, the packaging leaves much to be desired. I don't dislike the overall look of it, I like the white & gold, but it's cheaply done. This is a big, oversize compact, but it feels light as a feather bc of the plastic. There are drug store compacts that feel more substantial than this. I also see the gold logo coming off very easily if handled frequently or stored poorly. It's just very plain and cheap, honestly.
