I think abstinence-only education is idiotic, though, and I would like to think that having a pregnant teen might have one reconsider his/her stance or at least implementation.

Ha ha! It's funny that there are mandatory evacuation orders and thousands of people and their homes and pets are at risk. Ha ha!

So it's cool to make a totally offensive and tasteless remark if it's a joke. Noted. And then, when called on it, you can just blame it on the other side.

I would absolutely agree with you.

The problem I have with hanging Palin in effigy for her daughter's actions are two fold.

One, we don't know what she taught her daughter at home. Palin's belief (one that I personally do not support) is abstinence-only sex-ed in schools. And to be frank, I'm not sure that's 100% correct. The only thing that I can find about her re:sex-ed is that she doesn't support "explicit sex-ed." What the hell does that mean? And not supporting "explicit sex-ed" may not equal supporting abstinence only education.

And two, even IF Palin only taught abstinence only at home, who's to say that her daughter wasn't practicing safe sex anyway? It's a leap to say that her daughter's pregnancy is a result of abstinence only sex education. It could very well be the result of a contraceptive failure.

Oh PUH-LEASE. I didn't say it was tasteful. I didn't say it was right. I said it was, at best, a joke. A horribly offensive joke when one takes a moment to reflect on one's words? Yes.

True. I'm basing my assumptions on what I know of her & how I read "explicit sex-ed" (I'm guessing it's a benign way of saying "abstinence-only" and not teaching proper condom usage and other birth control methods; I doubt she means different sex positions) and assuming she practices what she preaches. Most of the time I hear about contraceptive failure is when people are really ignorant about it, like don't know how to put on condoms or are clueless how to take pills. I feel like that would be considered "explicit sex-ed," which I strongly believe should be taught in schools. I think it's a damn shame people aren't teaching their kids that and that should, but I also think living in a world of what should be is stupid when something completely different is happening.

I don't think she should get crucified for having a pregnant kid. But I am interested in how this will affect her stances, since this has hit home.

Not to be stupid here.... But i thought the point of Abstinence only sex ed was so that the PARENTS not the school system/ government could deicide what and when a child it taught about sex. Once again I don't agree with the abstinence only sex ed. but i think the main point of it is to keep Sex Education within the homes and not the schools.

So if we aren't sure how she is running her home, we don't know what she has taught her children about sex. She may have sat them each down at puberty and had the birds and the bees talk. And from there her daughter made her own choices. How many perfectly responsible adults b/c pregnant through failed birth control. We all know it happens.

If the goal is to keep sex-ed only within the home, then the right needs to push for NO sex-ed. Abstinence only sex-ed is a thinly veiled attempt to push the religious beliefs in a secular entity.

I think you are probably correct, but on a related tangent, I saw some materials for a sex-ed course in CA and holy boogers, it was some explicit stuff. Way beyond condom usage and other prophylactics.

The reason we have some taxes are for good purposes too.
How do you expect health care programs to come?

I love John Stewart. Heres a lil comical relief, some may find it offensive because it does attack a certain party/person but it is a lil comical to see all these contradictions within the media about certain candidates but when it comes to their candidates they contradict themselves up the ass.

I tried embedding the video but its not working so heres the link:

I know taxes are necessary It's when your taxes are being raised to pay for things you don't agree with. Not every one wasn't a nationalized health care plan. I actually believe its a hot button issue.

That's pretty funny. I bet we could find similar contradictions from the other side too LOL

The value of the dollar is in the tank due to the economy and that also isn't the fault of the president alone. I'm really not trying to defend Bush, but the blame should be spread more equally between his administration and Congress. Neither party has done that great of a job these past eight years.

Here are the actual numbers from the senate website: U.S. Senate
We didn't go to war with iraq until 2003.

Majority Party (November 12, 2002 - January 3, 2003): Republican (50 seats)
Minority Party: Democrat (48 seats)
Other Parties: 2
Total Seats: 100
Note: From January 3 to January 20, 2001, with the Senate divided evenly between the two parties, the Democrats held the majority due to the deciding vote of outgoing Democratic Vice President Al Gore. Senator Thomas A. Daschle served as majority leader at that time. Beginning on January 20, 2001, Republican Vice President Richard Cheney held the deciding vote, giving the majority to the Republicans. Senator Trent Lott resumed his position as majority leader on that date. On May 24, 2001, Senator James Jeffords of Vermont announced his switch from Republican to Independent status, effective June 6, 2001. Jeffords announced that he would caucus with the Democrats, giving the Democrats a one-seat advantage, changing control of the Senate from the Republicans back to the Democrats. Senator Thomas A. Daschle again became majority leader on June 6, 2001. Senator Paul D. Wellstone (D-MN) died on October 25, 2002, and Independent Dean Barkley was appointed to fill the vacancy. The November 5, 2002 election brought to office elected Senator James Talent (R-MO), replacing appointed Senator Jean Carnahan (D-MO), shifting balance once again to the Republicans -- but no reorganization was completed at that time since the Senate was out of session.

And believe me i don't presume to say which way any person would vote, I think the most important thing is to have the FACTS the real ones and not what this group says about that person or vice versa... Thats why I am interested in what you ladies have to say b/c there is so many lies and slander going around this go around its disgusting.

Yeah and when Palin's church had an anti semitic speaker there TWO weeks ago, she should have walked out

Governor Palin at the invitation of her former pastor Kalnins "appeared on stage in June before a youth group at Wassila Assembly of God, where she reminisced fondly about getting baptized there, before asking the young people to pray for a proposed natural gas pipeline in Alaska and for American soldiers."

Here's what Palin said: "Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right also for this country," Gov. Palin said, in a video of the talk posted on the church's Web site. Pray "that our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God. That's what we have to make sure we're praying for: that there is a plan and that plan is God's plan."
