Naturaly we'll give him an opportunity

what I meant, and maybe it wasn't clear ... when you have a majority in Congress & the Senate of the same party as the President (as in this case) it may not be as easy for the entire country to be heard.

I'm glad for you for many reasons

The people have spoken, and we'll move on united as a nation.

Re: 2008 Presisdential election - poll

Some finally thoughts ....

The silver lining for me is that the Democrats did not gain a 60 seat, filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, so that is extremely good. Also, it seems as though Obama’s advisors and Obama himself have studied Clinton’s Presidency and realized that he overreached early on by going very far to the left after having run as a centrist which led to the Republicans gaining the majority in the house and senate. So, hopefully, they will not try the same radical stuff.

Also, the country does remain a center-right country, despite his victory, because, for the most part, after the primary, he ran pretty much towards the center. He became more hawkish on Iraq/Pakistan/Afghanistan, to the dismay of his liberal base and campaigned as a tax cutter. So, don’t listen to the liberal pundits when they declare the Reagan Revolution dead, because it just ain’t so.

The fact is that Capitalism is alive and well and most people do not want a fundamental shift in America. In addition, the Republicans, after being beaten now, can purge the party of Bush-style Conservatism (over-spending) and find a voice to return them to their roots of being a reform party. They lost themselves along the way and this is the result.

America is about self-reliance and the American dream is about making your own success, not having the government steal from others to give to you.

and God Bless the United States of America ... we're all in this together

A big hug to all that participated in this discussion.

I hope that the Republicans move far from the Bush administration. Obama's more centrist platform convinced me to vote Green.

I hope everyone can put aside any differences and get this country back on track.

This is so exciting! To watch the speeches that were given last night, to watch so many people united. It was just heartwarming. Seeing peoples faces filled with happiness and hope was just...moving. I dont know what the future holds but I am just hopeful. I have faith.

I do hope that Obama can see past his own party and choose persons for his cabinet that are best suited for that position. What concerns me most is having an entirely Democratic-run government. There would be no checks and balances. I certainly hope that Obama and the Dems will see their election as being the result of a country fed up, rather than necessarily falling in line with the core Democratic ideals. I hope that the Dems won't take advantage of having such a powerful position, because the very thing that killed the Republicans this time around could happen in four years.

McCain as the choice of the Republicans was fine with me. His choice of Palin bothered me, but hind-sight is 20/20. McCain got a lot of flack for not being close enough to the core ideals of the party, so he chose a VP candidate that was...and that choice clearly backfired. Looking at it now, Romney would've been a much better choice.

I agree,Romney probably would have been a better choice.

So wonderful hes getting a chance just as much as the other presidents weve had (including*rolls eyes* the ones whove messed us over throughout history). So Im very down to see him lead this country...especially after seeing some of the presidents from never-shouldve-been-elected past.

You can kind of tell who everyone voted for based on their mood today.. Some people are just really somber and irritable but the majority of people i've encountered today are in really great spirits

I know I am. I woke up this morning with a feeling of "hell yeah, this country finally came to their damn senses and elected a bright, intelligent, forward-thinking man who can actually bring us together and try to fix what the last administration so carelessly screwed up".

But for now, I hope he's just relaxing and spending time with his family, and being able to mourn his Grandmother's passing

The man deserves a few days off before he has to jump into this mess, thats for sure!
