If they don't, it'll probably cut down on the buffalo stampede hysteria but also cut down on their publicity and bottom line too. It's always a bad thing when companies start operating with secrecy and paranoia for the competition, imo. Just flaunting your products' superiority is a better policy.
'Sucks for you, HerGreyness, since the feedback you can gather here and elsewhere for near term products probably helps you directly in your marketability assessments for the more further out collection sweeps.
We'll all still be around yakking about our dream makeup fantasies, at least!

liba, thank you for your appreciation of the situation. The amount of information being leaked via internet -- blogs, YouTube, etc... is putting all the financial projections for collections out of control. There are cutbacks in production due to economic restraints, and the more information is dispersed -- way ahead of the actual product release, whether good or bad about a product, drives the demand in a crazy way or inversely leaves stock laying around.
My work depends on the viability of products vis a vis price and competition as well as the elements necessary for a hot selling product -- colour, texture, packaging. This curtailing is for all who work directly or indirectly with the Cosmetic Industry and manufacturers and I believe has been instigated by the print industry (magazines/advertisers especially since they suffer the brunt of lack of advertising) and the pressure they bring to bear on the manufacturers. Also at play is the competitive and secretive nature of the entire industry.. as you well know, as soon as a designer shows a dress, someone is already knocking it off somewhere in the far east. The same situation is ocurring with cosmetics -- to wit, we have all varietes of MAC imitations, CD imitations, Chanel imitations, including but not limited to lipsticks, brushes -- these are growing by leaps and bounds due to the very low prices of the products and the ignorance of those who purchase them thinking they are good dupes for the real thing.
Point of fact, I received some product today, which is for review/comment only -- and there are blushes almost identical to BOA, and the upcoming WW collection's brights -- and they are made by an Indian company and sell for about $ 2.50 US.
sorry for the long post.
It is a very difficult situation -- for me, it doesn't really suck as I have access to a lot cross information from many different companies -- but I feel bad that I will not be able to show or share any of the wonderful and technologically advanced products in advance to anyone here.... other than that, I would frankly be honoured if anyone tried to cancel any of my contracts, as I could retire very nicely with what I would get in litigation.
