Thought this might be of interest to some of you. I got to sit in on a Mac class last night on Spring 2011 trends. This is where they identify what their broad trends are for the upcoming season, so it doesn't relate directly to product launches, but it gives some idea of what to expect. A lot of this we know from the comments HerGreyness has made, but I thought I'd recap anyway.
Generally, there seems to be a lot of emphasis on skin- illuminating, perfecting, shading, etc. There was a lot of attention paid to a "naturally perfect" face created by building up sheer layers of product rather than just using one or two. Contouring was very soft, natural looking, using different tones of foundation rather than dark shades. There was a lot of emphasis on colour-correcting and shaping products for the face. Here are the trends that they discussed.
"Pop Classic"- Bright pops of colour on the lips or around the eyes- think bright turquoise eye liner, bright pink or neon orange lips. The rest of the look was generally very natural, almost un-made up, so that the contrast with the bright point was all the greater. This trend seems to sort of move away from the bright red lip and into other colours. There wasn't much in the way of red lips that I could see.
"Raw-Fined"- Basically about the skin, made to look absolutely natural, but flawless. I'd expect a number of new prep & prime products based on this look, rather than any colours.
"Ice Dream"- Very pastel colours, light mint, aqua, greens like Juxt, light blue pinks on the lips like VG Gaga or Snob. A lot of bright highlighting. Although the look is done with very soft colours, it also seemed to have more impact than the others, because it is less natural looking. It was described as "futuristic" pastels. The colours reminded me a lot of the palette from Sugar Sweet a couple of years back, but not as frosty.
"TerraCopper"- Very bronzy, 70s-influenced look. A lot of brown and tawny colours, blush applied really high on the cheekbones and even around the temples. Lips were very nude, but the eyes were really smudgy- they blended right into the blush. Colours like Bronze and Indianwood paint pot are the kind of thing that seemed to define this. Brown/ orange/ copper tones all over.
Personally, I can't see a lot of these looks working for me, although I did like the effect on the model of the "TerraCopper" (she had a very tawny complexion and blonde hair, so the beach-girl look really worked on her). I'm personally curious to see what skin-perfecting products they come out with, but of the ones that already exist, they were relying heavily on the finishing pownder MSF natural (as both foundation and contour), Studio sculpt foundation and the SPF 50 skin primer (which I love).
Again, basically just elaborating on what we already know, so that we can start making more guesses as to what we might be seeing in the Spring...
