I bought a lipglass on ebay, and there might be a problem

I'm not sure where to put this. I kind of want to put this in the counterfeit section, but this probably isn't counterfeit, just ebay related. Anyway, I bought a hothouse lipglass on ebay that was supposed to be "NIB" "brand new" "never used or tested". I got my package today, opened it, and uh... it's been opened. The first thing I saw when I opened the tube was gloss all over the rim. So I guess it's been opened several times for that amount of gloss to be around the rim. The only way I think it ends up like that is if the wand has been fully opened and the sponge on the end touches the rim. I think that loses credibility that the gloss is brand new never used or tested. I can't help but think that it's been used 2 or 3 times since someone obviously opened it.

Here's a pic of the HOTHOUSE lipglass.

And here's a lipglass I recently bought at a mac counter. See, new, and the rim is CLEAN!

What do you think about this? Suck it up? Bitch and complain?

Thanks.

I would definitely complain. That's how I judge if my products are new as described. That much on the rim means it has for sure been opened...used?? I don't know if you can prove that, but bring it up to the seller & see what they say. Also say that you are very uncomfortable using an item like this. If they say that it was not used..blah blah blah, you can always open a dispute in Paypal as item not as described. Getting a lip product like that is just gross.

Hi, I just got a reply from the seller:

HI, I DID PULL THE WAND OUT TO MAKE SURE THAT IT HAD NOT DRIED OUT. I ALWAYS DO THAT BECAUSE I AM AFRAID OF BUYING A BHAD ITEM. BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN USED.

Should I... take her word for it? I'm definitely uncomfortable with this...

If you are uncomfortable, then no. Say that this was not mentioned in the auction (and should have been)& you are very uncomfortable using this.

Alright I'll try contacting her. She says she wants to make sure the product isn't dried out, but since she opened it and air got in, it would dry out quicker yes? I mean, what if a customer bought it for a backup and wasn't going to use it for a while?

Also, I think you can see if the gloss is dry or not without having to take the wand fully out. Half way would have been fine I think.

So true...and honestly, my glosses look that way around the rim when I have opened them many times to "USE" them...but of course that would be hard to say for sure. Keep on her though, as this should have been mentioned. She may have put NIB because you can't sell used cosmetics on Ebay.

She just gave me a full refund and said I could keep the product. That's kinda nice. Normally sellers are like, bitch, give me back my stuff then! I'll give her positive feedback and mention that there were problems, but good customer service because she did reply to my emails rather quickly.

I did tell her in the end of my email about the opening the tube just half way and air gets into it for us backup buyers bla bla bla.

Now, what should I do with the lipgloss? lol

That went smoothly. I got the product today, and got everything fixed today

The best ebay problem I've dealt with so far (I hate it when things go wrong on ebay)

Um i dont like this!!! Why would she need to open the product and pull the wand up to make sure it wasnt dried out if she advertised the product as NEW. THrow the lipgloss away, far far away!!!!!

Definitely complain. It seems like when they said "new," they might have been taking some liberties with the truth.

For the rim to be that "gloss-ed", the user must have 'checked' more than once or it was done carelessly.
My half-finished Nymphette's rim isn't as messy as that.

B2M that l/g!
