I'm scared.

I have hypothyroidism and the treatment for me is just meds for life. I underwent radiation therapy and it sucked. You can't be around people for a certain amount of days because you might affect another individual, but it's not something you undergo regularly. BTW, while it is quite difficult to become pregnant, it is possible! I'm on baby #2 right now

Good luck with you!

Stay strong, and don't listen to your Dad...

None of this is your fault.
Just stay positive, positive thinking brings positive results.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Here's a poem I found just for you.

Don't let today's disappointments
cast a shadow on tomorrow's dreams.

I know of several women with hyperthyroidism with children. My mother had four children and she switched from hyper to hypo. None of us have it, so far. My mother said she felt a lot better when she was treated for it.

Just an update:
I went for my ultrasound on Friday and found out I have a mass lump growing on the right side of my thyroid. It's not a cyst, just an average sized, hard lump. Well anyway, that really depressed me and has set me over the edge for the last few days. I have to get a needle biopsy to see whether it's benign or malignant. I'm so overwhelmed with this shit, seriously!

When will you find out the results? We are all pulling for you. I have heard that the vast majority of lumps are benign.

It's probably a goiter, which is usually nothing. To be honest, the dr's said I had one and wanted to do a biopsy (which they drug you for, so that's good), but I said I wasn't sure...and it turned out to be my thyroid! It was so swollen it looked like a goiter, haha. You have nothing to be depressed about. This sort of stuff is so common it's unbelievable.

Update us when you can! Good luck with that procedure and just be glad you have loving SO, family and friends to help you and that you are getting it taken care of! It's so much better than not knowing what is wrong.

My boss has hyperthyroidism. It was a scary thing before he got diagnosed...his eyes started bulging out of his head...he would kneel down on the floor and would have to use the wall to get back up...like sudden partial paralysis.

At first the Dr's thought he had AIDS.

He is on a regulating pill that makes his eyes go back to normal, and he also has to take Prednisone, which makes him antsy, so he also has to take Ativan.

But he feels better and doesn't have AIDS...lol.

It will be ok honey. big hugs to you!

Ooook another update
smiles.gif

I went yesterday and had a pill, it was radioactive iodine and I took it so my thyroid would light up like a Christmas tree for pictures! I came back 4 hours later, they took 3 15-minute pictures and then I came back again this morning at 9:30 and had a quick 2-minute picture.
This test is to determine if my thryroid is functioning hot or cold. I want to it to be hot, which means it's functioning, even if I do have hyperthryroid. Cold means no good and it's not functioning normally.
I'll know more by the time Monday or Tuesday rolls around, until then, I'll be saying some prayers!

Thank you again everyone for all the kind words of encouragement

Weird, I thought that I posted a comment, but I guess not!

Anyway, as weird as this sounds, I certainly hope that you have a HOT thyroid!!

aww hun im so sorry to hear that! I hope you'll feel better! my friend's aunt got diagnosed with hyperthyroidism too. apparently there are different degrees of the disease, and the one she had she only need to take some medications instead going through radiation therapy. so maybe yours won't be too bad either! and hun getting this disease is NOT ur false! it's hereditary, so ur dad shouldn't blame you for it!

Hi,
I Had 1/2 Of One Of My Thyroids Removed 20 Years Ago And Was On Thyroids Replacement For 15 Years. I Had No Side Affects Or Anything From The Medication. After That Many Years Though I Got Thyroid Goiter So I Had To Stop The Medication. Hopefully Once You Start The Medication You'll Feel So Much Better And Like Your Old Self Again

My Aunt Had What You Did And The Treatments Did Wonders For Her. I'm Pretty Sure She Only Had 1-2 Treatments And Felt Better Right Away. I Wish You The Best Of Luck.

My mother's husband had what he thought was a goiter, but turned out to be cancer. He had his whole thyroid removed, and is on medication. I didn't say that to make you sad, or scared, my point is, after radiation and medication, he has a perfectly normal life, and you would never know he had no thyroid (except for the fact that he feels a lot better than before the diagnosis).

You will get through this, with flying colors, and you will feel much much better when it's all over ^_^.
