Les Beiges de Chanel

Thank you for that post, Gracie!

That' s what I feared and now I can easily skip it.

It doesn't say anywhere on the packaging, but I think it's synthetic too. I'd have loved one of the powders, but the palest was slightly too dark for me :( Although the Chanel lady at my counter said that the powders are permanent, so I might get one in the summer!

I am 99,9999% ;) sure it's synthetic.
In my experience, synthetic hair has a certain artifical shine to it which makes it very easy to tell if a brush is made of natural or synthetic hair.
I am sorry that I wasn't able to take better pics, when the sun finally came out here I didn't have access to the cam anymore.

I made comparison swatches with a cream foundation, too, but I won't post them because a.) the paper I made them on wasn't a great one to do swatches on and b.) the Chanel brush didn't handle the foundation well (its hairs immediately started to clump, to an amount I haven't seen before with a synthetic brush... still trying to wash the foundation out) and I am not sure if it's me or the brush who's to blame?!

It's such a shame, because the compact and the powder itself are so beautiful! I'm NW10 at the moment, but I wish they did a No. 5 shade :(

Oh, that makes me sad. I'm sure if it's too dark for you it will be for me as well.

Can you try it in person? It blended perfectly into my hand, and I'm sure I could have make it work on my face with a bit of effort. Don't rule it out yet, it's really lovely!

You're making me wish I'd picked it up now! I got the brush when there was a 10% off all beauty at my local department store, and that discount would have made the powder a lot more affordable! Although if it is perm then I have a while til it gets sunny enough here!

Yes, I could try it in person. I will definitely wait now until I go to a counter and not order blind!

So my brush order got cancelled, apparently it was already sold out when I ordered it.

It's sold out on the other sites too where I could've gotten a discount, and I can't afford to order it somewhere internationally with expensive shipping at the moment. Guess it wasn't meant to be.

I wish they would've sent me an email to inform me, I still could've ordered it somehwere else yesterday, but of course today it's out of stock there as well. I'm so bummed.

I am NW20 ( now I know, I was told I was NW25 but no my skin is paler ), I have les Beiges 20, it's perfect for my complexion. The powder is really soft and subtle, not translucent but a good brush is needed to build it up, the Kabuki looks very good. I purchased Guerlain Terracotta 4 Seasons in 00 Nude, it's still bronzing whereas Les Beiges is not bronzing at all and very very sheer compared to the Terracotta. In France, many women think les Beiges is bronzing, not at all it's quite the opposite. If you are pale, well I think you might either want shade 10 or shade 20. I guess 10 is for very pale skins, in France we have 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 in fact.
Hope it was helpful. If not, well I don't know what to say lol

If you want to use it as a powder (foundation) then you choose a shade that matches your skintone, but if you want a bronzer then you use a darker shade.

See, thats what is confusing me. They are marketing it as a bronzer/warmth right? Its not a foundation ? I'm confused

I was really curious about how No. 30 compared to Edward Bess Ultra Luminous Bronzer in Daydream, which has recently come up as a high wishlist item, so I broke down and just ordered Daydream from Sephora (my reins on my makeup addiction are obviously not as tight as I want them to be! Visiting Specktra more doesn't help...). I've uploaded pictures to MUA as I haven't had the time to resize them for Specktra.

Generally, Les Beiges look sunnier (i.e. warmer and more golden) than Daydream, almost seeming a bit orange-y. What I expected since EB's bronzers are made more neutral, and I'm glad about it since I can justify owning both. =P I'd even use them together with Les Beiges as a blush and a touch of eyeshadow (it looks great on the lids!).

Links to the pictures, if anyone's also curious:

Definitely not a foundation. A matte-yet-luminous setting powder that is silky to enhance the skin's appearance yet sheer to allow for one to use a darker shade without fear of over-doing. I would not have it replace my current powder foundation (Burberry Beauty Luminous Compact Foundation) - which I've been applying with the Chanel kabuki. =D

Despite the above description, I still find No. 30 to be a bit too dark for me to use until I get a bit more sun, even with a stippling brush. Maybe that's just my preference or I'm not used to bronzer-ing enough yet. =S

Does anyone know how Laura Mercier's Matte Radiance Baked Powder compares to Les Beiges? I have just heard about that product for the first time and I kind of want it.
