I must admit that two of my favourite brushes are ~5 EUR agnes b. brushes.
The third one is the fluff shadow brush by benefit and this wasn't that expensive too.

Re: MAC - Brunette Blonde Redhead Collection Discussion (Hair was WN)

I have to weigh in that it would depend on the level of my collection, I'm glad that I bought afew brushes when I started out. And bought afew more. Over the beginning months. Now I'm at a point where I have enough to put on my makeup and while more would be nice, definately don't need more.

Same can be said for shadows though, I bought a LOT over the past few months, I went crazy with them... I will probably buy the BBR shadows.. but I'm not letting myself even look at the HK shadows, or the Dame Edna... I mean i'm sure I'd like them. But I definately don't need them so I am banning myself from looking at them.

P.S. Q-tips are part of my "makeup kit" lol..I rock the qtips EVERYDAY..they are like my magic eraser when I get a little to carried away!! haha..

I agree with your whole post! My latest MAC must-have are the brushes, but mainly because I don't have a really great set. My eyes are what are played up the most because, like you, my obsession began with the shadows.

I hear ya on this, new brushes aren't a must, but I do feel that brushes are. Every time i try to use q-tips i end up looking a hot mess. I end up with fallout on my boobs!

I need to get me a full size 275 one of these days. I abuse both of my SE ones. The only full-sizes I own are the 190 and the 217. I'm awful, the rest are the travel sizes..

But I guess once I get bored with the make-up, I'll start turning to brushes (this seems to be happening too.) However, I have a few cheapie ones too that work just as well.

I have to say I may not be able to talk myself out of getting all three brushes! I can't wait to hear what people are using them for!

If you only had cotton swabs (q-tips), you could still do a beautiful eye. I am also on the "brush bandwagon" because I love them. But, if you are trying to save moola, they really are not the most necessary items in the world. It would be hard to do a good eye without product, but you could still make a beautiful eye with a good product and just some q-tips or even your fingers. Just sayin'.

Well, you knew I was going to weigh in on this one, brush maniac that I am.

I agree, that q-tips/cotton buds are essential to have in ones kit, they are versatile and work for so many things.

That being said - no way do they take the place of good makeup brushes. Sorry babe, just sharing my opinion and experience. The combination of good brushes and good product = an incomparable result. Throw in great technique, and you're golden.

I will say that one could use a finger or cotton bud to apply shadows in a simple way and it would look fine (i.e. simple wash of colour over the lid), but for an actual eye design with contouring and dimension and depth, brushes are essential.

I love Lollipop Lovin' due to the green duochrome. If I put it over a cremestick liner, it'll hold decently enough. Generally, though, I don't want to have to have the opacity of a cremestick layered under a glaze. Sigh. And I wish Pleasureseeker had been an AC or Satin, because I LOVE that colour.

The one time I really let myself go this year was Cult of Cherry.

And I'm glad I did.

Cult of Cherry was the one collection I've ever gone totally nuts on, and I still have not a single regret about it. I continue to love that collection more than any other ever.

I can forgive you. Although it was the collection of my dreams, I realize it's not for everyone.

Q-tips, in the long run, can cost more. They get fuzzed out quickly and can't be washed and reused, and you can only do something really simple with them. It would make me sad how super wasteful it would be - I already get sad given how many I use alongside my brushes!
th_dunno.gif
Mind you, I've only paid full retail for ONE of my brushes. I scour the Clearance Bin to get 'em cheap, and it's absolutely worth it. And if you go with cheaper brushes than MAC brushes (which is not difficult to do), you still get the options of more complex looks that brushes allow while definitely ultimately saving money.

I'm terrified to imagine how many cotton swabs I'd use in a day if they were all I used to apply my eyeshadow...

Ok,for reference,I NEVER said that we should use q-tips instead of brushes.I was just merely pondering on how "brush-obsessed" we've become.I'm a fanatic, too. It was just an observation, that is all.Kevyn Aucoin did most of his eyes w/ sponge applicators.

I don't like the feeling of sponge applicators. They bother me. Though, I'd take them any day over cotton balls. *shudders*

Rbella, I know you weren't trying to say we should all convert to q-tip use.

I suspect we're brush obsessed for a reason, mind you - we love the results.
