Yipes at that eBay listing! There are more auctions or Buy-It-Now sales popping up every day. Knope2012, you are absolutely right! That one seller has no feedback, no actual images and was not very detailed with their listing. I know people are asking all these insane prices, but the amount isn't the only unappealing aspect to a buyer!
To get a better idea for the asking price, look at the completed listings - CYY is showing sales of $50, but anything more than that is with a high number of bids. They might be International buyers who don't mind paying a few dollars more than their retail price for the lipstick. A lot of Buy-It-Now auctions (especially those with the insane amounts) are ending with no sale.
In the 9 years that I've had my eBay account, I've never sold anything besides textbooks on half.com, but one of my family members was a seller who frequently used bidding decoys - someone or a few people in their social circle to kick off the bidding, or to drive the bidding toward the end so that the auction had potential to end at a higher price. It's kind of a way to see "how badly" someone wants to buy the item, too. I'm thinking that more likely than not, the lipsticks selling for more than $80 are because there's a potential for there to be a scalp even in the bidding, whether someone's actually paying that amount or the amount ended in favor of a decoy. I do not know if this is a common procedure, but with this in mind I'm totally thinking that many of these scalpers may just sit on these lipsticks, having the BNIB collect dust, with the prospective to profit never coming to fruition.
