MAC can't jack up prices on existing products too much without risking upsetting it's customer base. It's a Mid priced cosmetic line after all. But I've noticed that several of it's new products are priced at or over high end cosmetics (Dazzleglass and now Solar bits), when you do the quantity vs. price analysis. I know that they've had to do product development, but they've released other new products in the past without having the product costing double the price of other comparable products in the line.
That being said, these are gorgeous, but I bet there is going to be massive sticker shock when people open the containers and see how little product is in the jar. Kind of the cosmetic equivalent of "Where's the beef?".

Thank you! I don't want to start with German prices for MAC now.

I'm hoping erine comes in and gives us some advice on how to work with them, since shes our resident expert. It is fun playing with them, but now I put a couple of pieces of paper towel under the container before I open them, to deal with the mess.

I also checked for fallout this afternoon. Nothing really visible unless you shine a flashlight on your face (which one of my fellow mad chemists did in an effort to prove it). So not too shabby for adhering capability.

I was just reading the original product description for these and this is what it says:

"Crush for full color and sparkle effect; for a light shimmer, sweep your brush over the top of the clusters."

I'm sure Erine will have some great advice, but in the meantime...has anyone tried crushing them (maybe on the inside of the lid?) or just sweeping the brush very lightly over them so as not to pick any clusters up but just pick up whatever pigment rubs off onto the brush? Having not seen them I have no idea if that makes sense but that's what I'm getting from this comment in the product description....

Yes, I tried the crushing on the back of my hand first & that did make it easier to apply. Using the brush over the top is ok, it still picks up the tiny little beads...messy. You still get the same color.

If you look closely at the promo pic, she has it around & under her eyes, & it also looks like she has one of the lighter shades dusted on the cheek area next to the nose.

As for the solar bits, what about using a mixing medium? That's what I plan on doing. They are just to pretty to pass up!! Especially that Black Ore which will be MINE!!!

Hey all, just wanted to let you know that my MA at the freestanding store let a little slip yesterday...she said that this collection would be released a week ahead of schedule. I'm not sure if it's true because another MA said they'd be doing preorders, so we'll have to see. My MA however seemed a little guilty that she had let that slip, while the other seemed to be "covering" if you know what I mean. So if you're excited about this collection you all may be seeing it a bit sooner then anticipated.

Boo, only ships to the States. I was hoping to get it (slightly) less than retail, but probably better for my wallet right anyway. *sigh*

Thanks tho!

Now that I'm done with NN, I'm not sure what I want from this collection. The pics just aren't doing it for me, though, i might've said that about NN also?! I personally don't really like special packaging for blushes and eyeshadows, though I do for lipsticks and compacts, and I realize that doesn't make sense!!! It's just always been my preference to have my little pots and blushes in the black packaging (which is why I did actually like the Fafi blushes).

Having said all this, my tune will probably change when this collection is released!

Re: Neo Sci-fi, Solar Field, And Future Earth

I saw most of the collection today!! OMG. The packaging is SERIOUSLY HIDEOUS! I was excited for the orange packaging, but I am not lying when I say that it is NEON orange. It almost hurt my eyes to look at it. It is shiny, like the FAFI packaging was, but if you can imagine a hunter wearing camoflague and a BRIGHT orange hat, you've got it. Ya know the bright orange the guys wear that work on road crew? Yep, THAT kind of orange!

While some of you may like it, I *REALLY* dislike it. That being said, I still plan to purchase some of the collection. They hadn't received the entire collection, but I got to see one of the eyeshadows (Magnetic Fields), both blushes, all of the lipglass, 3 lipsticks, the bronzers, Solar bits and the nailpolishes. I was VERY plesantly surprised with both blushes. I thought only Spaced Out would strike my fancy, but the mauvey one is very nice too! The mauve one is very WOC friendly, but will work just as nicely on us pale girls. The texture of these blushes are SO silky and smooth. I definately plan to get both of them. I got to see Pleasureseeker and Sunsonic lipstick and Sci Fi Delity. They are all beautiful, and I plan to get Pleasureseeker and Sunsonic. The dark red one is very nice, but not something I would wear. The lipglasses are nice, but I didn't pay much attention since I have so many already. Magnetic Fields is a boring dark brown. I lknow I read it is a Lustre, but it is labeled a VP, and seemed like a VP to me. I say it is boring, because I don't wear much brown, but I k now alot of you will like it. I was disappointed that they hadn't gotten in the other shadows yet. The teal and orangeish nailpolishes are to die for!

I overlooked the bronzers because the packaging on those especially was a huge turn off. I seriously could find that thing a mile away. I decided to hold off on Refined Golden and get it in the regular packaing later. The Solar bits are odd. SO hard to describe. They are all very different in color. Scatterrays appeared more gold on me, while Sunpower was more tan which reflected almost silver. Bronzescape and Black Ore are both VERY dark. I decided to skip these. They are disco ball glittery, and I don't have much practical use for them, sadly. Anyway, hope that helps some!!

My list now includes:
-Pleasureseeker and Sunsonic l/s
-Spaced Out and X-Rocks Blush
-Femme Fi and Evening Aura e/s (assuming I like them when I see them)
-Possibly Plasma Blu Nail Lacquer
