Could you imagine if MAC released like an Opulence collection with truely metallic pigments in colors like ruby, sapphire, emerald, gold, silver, pearl, citrine, garnet, diamond (maybe a rainbow irridescent pigment?), peridot?

When a collection with pigments comes out,I'm already buying stuff so what I do is sometimes I'll buy a pigment or 2,and then while I am picking out the stuff I want,I ask my MA for samples of all the other pigments. She is so awesome tho,she will pack the little jars totally full with them.Or even if I don't buy any pigments,I ask for samples anyways but I am always buying something at the time.

Ruby would be mine in an instant along with Sapphire!

More colors:
Amethyst (that purple would be SO hot)
Fire Opal (red orange with ALL that lovely iridescents)
Tanzanite (the prettiest royal blue, ever)
Aquamarine

AHHH!! I completely forgot about opals! I'm trying to picture an opal pigment collection right now! Opals are my favorite stones (after goldstone--yes, I know its actually a glass), and if MAC had a collection that was opal themed and only captured half the brillance of them, I think I would die of happiness and probably second mortgage my house if I had one. lol

Ahahaha, as long as it's beautiful, I don't think it matters if it was a glass.

Just imagine the dimension those opal colors would have. lol.

"With reference to your suggestion, we hope you can appreciate that Mac maintains both research and creative staffs to continuously improve our products and services. It is, therefore, quite possible that one of our employees or outside consultants is already familiar with ideas forwarded by consumers. For this reason, we adopted a policy which precludes acceptance, consideration, or retention of ideas, product names, formulations, and so forth which do not originate within our organization."

I'm dying just thinking about it! That would be awesome. Seems like everyone is more excited about this imaginary collection than the actual collection.

That's pretty normal though... if they use your ideas, it could be considered theft of intellectual property unless they acquire your permission, etc. Whereas the work (and ideas and so forth) of employees while at work are contractually the property of their employer.

Basically, they don't want to get sued. It sucks that that has to be so much of a concern.

Its a concern for them, and I get that they dont want to be sued. But if their own policies prevent them from using ideas not originally developed within their own company then why the hell would/should anyone bother forwarding any more suggestions since MAC by its own words is unable to use those ideas....

Well, I bet that all of the "please repromote XYZ" suggestions are kept in mind when planning future collections. Or, for example, the response to my email requesting that Dazzleglass be made permanent was said to have been forwarded to the appropriate department.

But any suggestions or ideas for new products is where it gets sticky. I agree, though, it is a shame and it seems counterproductive.

Not sure if the above email is MAC's response in it's entirety, but it would be nice if they at least thanked the submitter for their enthusiasm and effort. Obviously if a consumer takes the time to think that much about a product and write an email, they think highly of the product and a little bit of graciousness on MAC's part would be nice.

As others have mentioned, it is all about CYA. This isn't even half of it. They make certain employees sign the most all-inclusive paperwork re intellectual property. Again though, it's pretty standard and actually quite smart on their part.

Re: MAC Overrich Discussion

dang newage! the idea of a rainbow iridescent pigment KILLS ME! ack ever since I was young I've LOVED rainbows. Gosh.

But the whole idea you have about jewels sounds fricking amazing!

I've gotten a different kind of response when I made a suggestion. It related to them perhaps releasing a calendar with promo shots (like the postcards) with the money going to viva glam--esp with how we drool over getting postcards. They thanked me for my idea and said they'd forward it. If they do or don't, thats not for me to worry about but they at least humored me.

I feel your pain!
I, too, have [two of] Mauvement already, but I think I'm still going to want Blonde's Gold(even though I'm a brunette), Museum Bronze and the burgundy one, whose name momentarily escapes me.
That's only around $60, but if I'm my usual weak self, and buy backups, we're easily talking triple digits here.
I hope MAC won't mind supporting me in my penniless old age.
