MAC - Semi Precious Discussion

IMHO, the most unattractive (beauty-wise) is pearl as it looks like a really bad skin outbreak. It's the color combination of the inner circle (red/yellow) on the very pale out circle. I'm not sure about quantities, but both Macy's and my f/s MAC store have confirmed that they will receive large quantities (whatever that means).
lol! i have got used to the weird nipple on the msf's now :) i think they're ok! :)

And I prefer the veiny ones like Light Flush, Pleasureflush, Petticoat, etc. Those are the prettiest to me.

I prefer the stripe-y ones.

Aw, thank you!

Re Pure Magnificence: it's definitely a grey pink color, but is on the sheer side once actually applied to lips.

Re Gem of Roses: I wouldn't say it's sheer; there's a good amount of color, though it's not going to be opaque and will give you more of a glossy/almost Slimshine-y look.

Re MSFs: they are more glittery than I'd personally prefer (I like really finely milled shimmer for using as a highlight), but it's not as coarse as Soft & Gentle MSF.

Hey everyone I am new to Specktra and I have been reading everyone posts on here for the last couple of days. I'm not new to make-up, but I'm fairly new to M.A.C. (at least this time around...I used to wear them a long time ago and then stopped and now I'm back again!) I wanted to give my thoughts on the new collection and what I started out with and what I've added...lol, a small fortune! So last week I originally placed the MES in Smoked Ruby, Hint of Sapphire and the Mineralize Charged Water on pre-order with my MA I usually go to. My MA had not had a chance to play with the brushes yet so I decided I would think about those for now. Well as I was reading these posts and looking at all the different swatches on the different blogs (Temptalia, Karlasugar, etc.) I decided that I was going to go back and give the collection a second look and my wallet will not be thanking me! So here we go....
Taking a fellow Specktra members advice(liba) I decided to try several of the MES with the Big Bounce Shadows. The Big Bounce shadows do work very nicely with the MES, that I will now be purchasing several of them(Impeccably Rich, and Black Diamond...still thinking about some others) For those of you that are purchasing Hint of Sapphire, the Big Bounce Shadow Free As Air makes a great base. I used the new 234 brush to apply the MES, and let me say that brush works wonders. I only used the MES dry because if I liked them when they were dry I knew they would be even better wet. I was commenting to my MA as I kept testing out different shadow combinations that I can't believe there isn't any fall out. She was impressed as well and was like yeah I can see your really packing on the color as well. The 234 brush blends and applies the MES perfectly and is really soft. I also believe that the brush helped contain some of the fall out that is common with MES. I liked the 234 brush so much I got two of them just in case something happens to one! I also reserved the 235 just because I liked the 234 so much without even testing it. I also tried the MES with the paint pot in Bare Study and that also worked well with the MES. The MES are best seen in person and swatched by yourself because I don't think the pictures do them justice. I had made a list of what I wanted the second time around and still added more on after seeing certain colors in person and testing them out for myself.
Next I played with the MSF's using the 128 brush. I really like how soft that it was and the way that it applied the MSF'S. I ended up getting all 4 of the MSF's because I liked the look of each one and I don't have many MSF'S in my collection right now. I didn't find the MSF'S to be to glittery because when I think of glitter I think of chunks of glitter. They all had a different sheen and glow to each one. I love shimmer and a nice glowy look! :) MSF Goldstone was a great bronzer for me without looking to orangey. I have NW 20 skin. The MSF crystal pink was a great highlighter on my skin tone as well as the pearl, but yet looked so different from each other on my skin. Lastly the MSF Rose Quartz was probably my favorite MSF of them all with just the right amount color and shimmer. I would wear this one the most out of all the MSF's that I am getting. I also like the inner and outer ring on all the MSF's, which I believe you can get different colors as opposed to the marbleized looking ones that I have now. I also decided to get the 128 brush. I did not get the 179 brush because I already have a kabuki brush and did not feel I need to spend the money on it just because I thought it was soft on the skin.
Here is my final list of all the MES I will be purchasing:
Hint of Sapphire, Smoked Ruby, Dark Indulgence, Rare Find, Golden Gaze, Unsurpassable, Jades Fortune, Clarity (the last 3 I added after seeing them for myself and didn't want to kick my self later if they weren't available!)

Hope this helps! :)

SO EXCITED! After going back and forth with this collection (from OMG NEED THE WHOLE THING to MEH, don't need anything) i finally got to swatch everything in person, which is good because I have narrowed down the buys to about 8 items:
JADES FORTUNE: amazing "presence of every color" kind of neutral....like a taupe made out of rainbows, MY FAVE! And it looks NOTHING like it does in the pot.
BLUE SHEEN: everything we always wanted Contrast to be
GOLDEN GAZE: Rich, dense, deep dark gold. The color I have been looking for for over 3 years, like Handforged Powerpoint, but darker.
SMOKED RUBY: fabulous rusty dark bronze, WAY less red in it than you would guess. Would never call this "ruby" unless maybe worn over Artifact PP.
DARK INDULGENCE: Shimmery Forest green, soft and smooth. I don't even wear greens but I couldn't pass this up!
RARE FIND: warm and cool plummy taupe with a pink undertone. Will look stellar on green/hazel eyes

PEARL MSF: I like that the outer ring is a really neautral light highlighter with a silky shimmery texture, and the inner "nipple" is really pigmented and a beautiful rusty rose. I thought this MSF was the most versatile by far and can be used as a pigmented blush, and rosy shimmer blush, or just a highlighter. ALL the other MSFs were also beautiful, and if I had to choose a 2nd (and I might) it would be Crystal pink, I was just a little scared it would be too much like By Candlelight. Rose Quartz was beautiful but did have more glitter in the center than the others, and Goldstonewas amazing but I already own Warmed and I think they will be very similar.

234 BRUSH: I really like the size of it for my smaller than average eyelids, but it is not all that dense. Kinda like a skinny 217
128 BRUSH: I think this will be a great controlled highlighter brush for applying MSFs just where I want them
*********************************

Now...FOR THE THINGS i AM NOT GETTING AND WHY::

BLUSHES: (none of them had the subtle shimmer I was hoping for)
Pressed Amber was too brown and blah for my NW20
Warmth of Coral is too orange and too light for me
Feeling Flushed looks too much like Overdyed

MES:
CLARITY: gorgeous in the pan, but swatched looks like dark grey base with multicolor sparkles....similar to Jades Fortune but not as cohesive. You don't need both
HINT OF SAPPHIRE: Still on the fence about this one. Princess Beaudy's swatch looked FAB, but Christine's was patchy and sheer....I feel like I can make this color out of a few of my pigments pigments and get the color payoff I was hoping for (Aire de Blue + Cornflower + Subtle), but may still cave and buy it
UNSURPASSABLE: really actually a beuatiful glowy chartreuse base with copper sparkles, but I don't like that the copper sparkles look like they are sitting on top and will eventually just travel away.

I got to see & swatch everything today. Everything was so buttery smooth & so much to choose from! The brushes were really soft on the lighter side. I don't know if they are must haves, but really unique.

Loved Rose Quartz the best - beautiful soft slight coral rose pink. It didn't seem overly glittery or metallic to me. I also really like Crystal Pink - it was a bit more shimmery just a soft slight peach pink neutral natural glowy look. The lighting in the store was terrible, so when I walked out into brighter lighting they did seem a little bit more shimmery.

Gem of Rose - which I will get 2 of - could have been a bit more strawberry pink color but it is really pretty. Almost seemed like a rosey pinker Mehr!!!
Lush Amber was pretty yellow tone beige nude - I was hoping for a more pink nude. The purple ls looks like ruby red slippers in the tube - but didn't seem too unique when I swatched it. Again it could all be the lighting.

The eyeshadows seemed smooth, some had a bit more small glitters but not bad. I will get Faux Gold & Smoked Ruby which is the prettiest smokey rich charcoaly browned ruby & maybe Clarity. Clarity was a bit gritty, but I like the color - I may have to swatch that one again to be sure.

It was so funny because the girl gave me this big MAC bag that had everything in it, so I went off to the one side to swatch everything, but I was wearing a slim-fitting black long tank dress & everybody kept coming up to me to ask me questions thinking I worked for MAC

They were seriously short handed for workers today so maybe I could've helped out ;)

You could probably get by with just picking up 2-3 items & still be happy.

Oh, duh! I forgot about Feeling Flush blush - LOVE LOVE!!! No brainer color for me. So pretty

Warmth of Coral was a bit too orangish for my own personal liking.

And, I liked the outer rings on the MSF better than mixing it with the center colors :) SKIP the NIP

The Cremesheens did nothin for me! Nothin

Elegant ,hi. What did you think of Geo Pink, if you got to play with it? I am going to look at Gem of Roses again and see if I should get it. A pinker Mehr, you say? I might just need that. :haha:

[/quote] Wow, I'll add Gem of Roses to my list, then. I swear when I try to skip lipsticks, it never works. :eek:hboy: I was actually hoping Geo Pink would be on the orange side since that's what I'm obsessed with. :D Thanks. :bouquet:

Is Temptalia not doing any comparison swatches anymore? I think she used to do that with every collection. That is what's most helpful for me, since I always have to order online. I would like to know if Rose Ole is similar to Pearl or Pink MSF, and comparison swatches for PA, and also WoC with My Highland Honey for example. And I'd love to see any comparisons for Mineral Mode.

According to her Twitter, she's going to try to get those up by this evening or tomorrow morning.

Are you getting MSF Rose Quartz and Pink? A natural glow sounds lovely! What did you think of Goldstone and Pearl?
