You don't have to know people at a MAC store to pre-order but it certainly doesn't hurt. Building a relationship with a SA/MUA is helpful because it allows them to get to know you, your likes, dislikes and preferences. I have met some of the most wonderful people at my local MAC store who look out for me and who I consider to be friends. From day one, upon walking into this particular store, every single SA acknowledged me and every person who entered. This was not the behavior about which I had read regarding some other MAC stores...rude SAs, etc. This is truly an amazing group of people. I also ordered from a MAC store out of state because my local store was out of an item that I failed to pre-order, and later wanted. My store referred me to a store in New Jersey and the SA who happened to answer the phone was really nice, took my order, shipped the merchandise & enclosed a sweet note.
Give it a shot!

I live too far to build relationships with mac SAs lol. I did manage to go to my prostore downtown 2 weeks ago and tried to perorder for taste temptations and the sa told me they don't do preorders and she just told me the day it comes out. I don't know if she was bs'n me or is it the truth.

I went into my local MAC store today and the girls pulled the book out, apparently it says in the book that it will be full distribution but than is crossed out. so only mac stores and online will get it. I also tried to preorder they told me they only do that for holiday collections.

This is so true in any retail environment. They will inform you of upcoming sales and sometimes even hold merchandise you like. I have great relationships with a lot of people in my favorite stores.

It's so worth it if you can make it happen.

That's interesting with regards to pre-ordering. I guess the MAC stores function independently, and obviously pretty differently.

sometimes it really depends on who you ask, not necessarily whether you have a good/bad relationship with them (though that would make a difference of course). i find i get different responses from different SAs, and definitely different branches have different policies....not to mention for certain collections (marilyn monroe for example...)

some SAs will happily let you peek at the book, while others absolutely won't even tell you a single detail from it, not because they're mean but just because they're following some rules somewhere...

...so just try asking another SA is what i'm saying...

ok thanks, I'll try again at the pro store and ask someone else and I have a guy in mind that was nice to me the last time I was there and I knew I should've asked him when I went 2 weeks ago. If that doesn't work I'll ask the at the other one in the next block. I didn't know there was some type of rules to preordering.

Omg damn that's a journey, you're really far from a Mac store. If I knew how to drive and had a car I would have no problems. I'm stuck with an hr to hr half train ride so I only go when I happen to have to go downtown.

I wonder when we will finally start to see the products and swatches? I'm getting impatient again. I need to make my list.

I do have two MAC counters inside the local macys' and one sephora inside a JCpenneys though! haha Me too! I am afraid it will sell out so I am thinking I should just call around and try to pre-order anyway.
me too lol and jcpenny is walking distance for me lol. The only thing i hate about the macys near me is that it looks terrible in there just terrible and the worst macys i've ever seen and it's been that way for years. Thankfully they're building another one next to jcpenny to replace the terrible one.

IMO, that's the crucial part. It really makes a difference.

Is this the Macy's on Herald Square? I know when I went inside it seems to be going through some "changes". I didn't realize that they were going to build another on near JC Penney. That's awesome.

Oh no no not Hearld Square lol. I love Hearld Square they have so much of a choice and I haven't been there in a long time. I'm talking about the Macy's in the Bronx in Parkchester. Im in co op city in the Bronx and they have a Jcpenny here and they're building a Macy's next to Jcpenny to replace the one in Parkchester.
