I'm glad everyone is enjoying the collection so far!
Yesterday after a work day dealing with the extreme unpleasantness of two 24/7 heifer cows I work with and a day of stress and deadlines I was happy to pop over to the MAC freestanding store and play with Style Black.
My objectives were to try everything especially Young Punk MES, Greasepaint Stick, and Blackfire GG. I got there around 6pm and was the only customer. Sadly it had already been raided. No GPS or GG to buy. It turns out they had a Pro class that resulted in the sell-outs. Evidently the GPS sold out immediately.
They allowed me to play with the old samples that had been removed from the display. The GPS is interesting. It felt dry on my hand, but the MA said its emollient quality is one of its drawbacks in his mind. I wanted to know how the GPS was used to create the promo image look, when I found out it requires a PRO-only gloss I was kind of disheartened. To be honest, I still have an admiration for that heroin-chic makeup look from the 90s. Anyway, I tried Blackfire, but wasn't loving it enough to go to a counter to buy it. The polishes are fine. I find them alluring, but I think it might be because it is black nail polish, which will draw the eye no matter what. Please understand, in my opinion the polishes read very black, not sparkly, it is only upon closer inspection that you notice the glitter. The mascara is very nice. Really lengthening, if that is what you are after. I didn't think much of the cream bases, and the SA there wasn't doing a good job of explaining their usefulness. I bought Young Punk and that is all. Although I feel like Blue Flame might actually be more beautiful, I wanted the pink. I felt like if I didn't buy it then I wouldn't have another chance. Obviously this town is crazy for Style Black, as I guessed it would be.
This morning I tried Young Punk as it is my first MES. I need more practice, especially with the foil technique. Thanks for all the warning about the fallout, I took steps to minimize that. Its not horrendous, there are Urban Decay shadows on par with this fallout. I got something going thats fairly cute, I was trying to channel Kat Von D and the way she rocks the black shadow. Unfortunately, while leaning to see how the glitter was looking I knocked my Young Punk off the counter! The dome broke off, in one soild piece. I was sad, but at least it didn't break in a way that destroyed the whole product. I set the dome piece back on the rest of the MES. I look forward to learning how to create more looks with this product and also to more GPS with Dsquared.
Not trying to panic anyone but here is what my free standing store sold out of by 6pm Thurs. in case you are curious.
