Muffins are actually considered a form of quick bread (or a bread that you don't have to let rise before baking it). They are usually more dense than cupcakes, which tend to be light and fluffy. Muffin recipes also generally have more flour in them than cupcake recipes. Also, as someone previously said, cupcakes usually have a frosting or glaze, where muffins don't. Hope that helps!
