MAC x Archie's Girls (Betty & Veronica) Collection Discussion (February 2013)

You should ask Christine. I'm sure she will tell you. I look at it like this. At the end of the day, Christine will buy every new item released by MAC that is not sent to her for free to review and photograph for her readers. That's thousands of dollars a year and to me that's commendable and unique because all beauty bloggers don't do this. Plus photographing certain colors can be challenging. Some bloggers will only review the comp items (but still post on items they don't have, go figure) or buy bits and pieces and just review those. As far as the negative comments. I just don't read them. I personally would want to monitor the snark, but it's her choice. It's cool with me, I'm just there for the photos and comparisons.
I'm pretty sure she gets to write off all purchases that she makes when it's tax time and she will get all of her money back and she gets to keep it all. sounds like a win win to me. I think that she is one if the top bloggers, so I find it weird that she was t given the collection in advance. but it's like mac guy said "don't bite the hand that feeds you". I like her site and her pics , reviews ( colors are off sometimes tho) and I do read the comments just to read what others think. I do wish she'd posts swatches the "dupes" listed , it would help us all out. I need to know what Gilr Next Door is close to, so I can decide whether or not to buy it..

that wasnt ge case with the two collections I stalked for ( Marklyn and by request) I had ( well I didn't have to but I did) to stay up until 4:30-5:00 am west coast time. that was kind fun but not really lol. I plan to get everything in the store not online this time. Mac guy u r right that its better to have all in one bill. I'm just scared to see my total lol
Oh Marilyn. I have my now 5 month-old to thank for that one, because at the time she was still waking us up 3-4 times a night. She woke up right before MM launched & I was able to get everything I wanted! :)

The lippies are EUR19, which still sucks. How much were the MMs?

That's the price for the regular ones here, the Archie ones must be at least 20€.

I just don't feel comfortable anymore buying lipsticks and nail polish since the last price increase, I try to get most of my stuff from the US.

I wish I could tell the quality of the brush set. I've rarely wanted to pick one up until now but I know the sets are very hit-and-miss; also, machine-made, correct?

Clearly she supports her mommy's MAC habit :D

I dont think thats how it is. IMO T makes much better reviews.. comparing colors, their longevity, better swatches and such. Of course I give props to Karen for her creativity but I have never relied on her 'reviews' which is just a description, not really a review. Unlike T who does a much more in depth one. I am by no means bashing on Karen btw! I appreciate her hard work and enjoy it as well, but MAC is making a mistake by disregarding T's blog.
I just wanted to pop in and comment about this... There was a long period of time there that T got the whole collection sent to her from MAC. However, she bashed nearly EVERYTHING. It seemed to be poor color, poor texture, poor packaging, poor yadda yadda. It resulted in a lot of C, D, and F ratings with her recommending basically nothing. Why on earth should MAC send all of that stuff to her for free when she just bashes it all? She obviously loves her higher end stuff much better- and that's great- but it's unrealistic to think that her followers all have the cash to spend on Guerlain etc. So, now she has to buy it all herself or be forced to not have swatches. Seems fair to me. Also, and this is just a tiny observation..... Her MAC reviews have gone up a smidge (A, B, & Cs) since she started buying her stuff again. This is purely speculation, but I've been wondering if she is buttering up MAC to get her stuff for free again. Not saying the reviews have changed a lot, but I feel like MAC has been averaging higher scores lately ;) With that said, I do check out her swatches but I do not like her photography set up anymore. I think using more diffused light would help with glossy/ shiny products. It's hard to tell accurate color sometimes. My fav swatches would be Karen, Allura, and Specktra :eyelove: everyone is so sweet and helps with swatches as much as possible here..... And that is just awesome. :)

I'm thinking the quads are easily duped and while it would be nice to have them for fun, money can be spent elsewhere in the collection. I'm lemming Prom Princess the most, I'm such a blush fan:bouquet:

I would say that it's somewhere in between Beauty and Pink Popcorn. It's not nearly as white-based and light as Beauty, and it's more noticeably pink in comparison to Beauty. It's lighter than Pink Popcorn and solidly pink (unlike Pink Popcorn, which has a purple edge to it), and Girl Next Door had a sheen to it that gave the finish some more oomph.

Totally understandable, but maybe it makes you spend less :)
yup thats so true lol but now I gotta figure out what NOT to buy ;) hoping karens reviews will help since I don't think T will have it up in time for the pre launch party on the 5th.

thank you! it sounds like I may need to get it ;) I skipped beauty (too white) and regret not getting pink popcorn.

Ugh maybe I should ask for a cp.. the official release date for Holland is March 2. But most prices are reasonable (at least for the things I'm interested it lol).. way better than the MM prices. http://www.beautyscene.nl/p/143414/mac_archies_girls_collectie_nl_release_2_maart_2013

We have the same prices as you.

Ronnie's red lippie and gloss are looking too good. Dang! I don't need more reds (haven't got my AP yet!). Hope it's very blue...
