Pigment Question

Hey guys and gals!

So I know that a lot of you are like in LOVE with pigments . . . I'm just starting to play with them and get into them. My question is this:

I have a lot of eyeshadows, and don't want to buy duplicate pigments. Which pigments are basically just loose versions of e/s, and which pigments are colors that you can't find anywhere else? Which pigments (pro or otherwise) can you just not live without? I tend to prefer matte finishes to frost/shimmers.

(PS - all my e/s can be found here: http://specktra.net/showthread.php?p=802180#post802180 )

Pigments are lots of fun!! I have tonnes of them and I adore them

Duplicates - here are some for both e/s and p/g

I am going to get totally shot in the foot for saying this but if you have Big T dont bother with Teal pigment - they are very close *cringe*...lol!! I prefer Black Black to Carbon e/s, the payoff is better. Dont bother with Dark Soul if you have Black Tied. Coco, Sunnydaze and Subtle are almost identical to each other, same with Sunpepper and Copperclast. Golden Lemon is a good dupe for Gold (frost) which was DC if you are looking for something similar to that.
Naval Blue and Blue Storm pigments are also very close. So is Grape and Entremauve, Quietly and Lovely Lily, Accent Red and Ruby Red, Coco Beach and Chocolate Brown, Dazzleray and Jardin Aires. Swish or Expensive Pink could dupe All Girl.

My best undupable p/g colours - Pink Pearl, Old Gold, and ALL the metal pigments. Oops - and Electric Coral - I havent seen a good dupe for that either.

My cant live without piggies are - Basic Red, Vanilla, Rose, Blue Brown, Coco & Subtle, Chocolate Brown & Coco Beach, Deckchair, All Girl (NOT unique colour, BUT there is no dupe p/g for it and I own almost exclusively pigments), Black Black, Rose Gold, Gold and Copper metals, Green (frost), Melon, Gold Dusk, Deep Purple, Deep Blue Green, Golden Olive and Forest Green.

blue brown pigment is the same as club eyeshadow (color wise, but the pigment finish makes all the difference).

coco and subtle are the same color.

jardin aires is slightly more pink that dazzleray, which is slightly more gold.

i think there is a good enough difference to own both big t and teal pigment.

the new rushmetal pigment is very similar to copper sparkle pigment (both are similar to amber lights shadow).

To me, old gold & green brown are very similar.

LOL, you are probably right

I dont use Old Gold much at all, makes me look sallow, but the Green Brown gives a very different colour on me. I think that the nature of questions for dupes etc has to be qualitative in nature because peoples perceptions of colour are different and different skin tones do the same - they often change colours once applied

Old Gold and Green Brown pigemnts similar??? Hm not to me, at all!

Bright Fuchsia pigment is another un-dupable hot pink, Passionate e/s is not nearly as bright.

Some of my favs are:
Vanilla- SO versatile! Perfect highlight, awesome mixed with lotion, SO pretty!
Emerald Green- Such a pretty emerald green with silver sparkle. I have alot of green shadows, and I use EG more than most of them.
Pink Vivid - Matte PRO, just got it and LOVE it as a blush!
White Gold - Beautiful creamy white with green flashes. Looks awesome used wet.
ALL the Reflects Glitters - technically not pigments, but I got samples of all of them, and want full size jar ASAP. They are SO pretty!

Great question! how about helium? worth buying? or dupable?

The duochromes like Helium arent that dupable so if you are looking for something a little more unique then any of the duochrome pigments might be great, but Helium itself isnt a great pigment, the colour is quite lovely BUT its chunky and messy and the best way to work with it is wet, it doesnt blend easily dry and can flake if you apply it too thickly. I have it and wouldnt buy it again.

I have a full size jar of Helium and love it, but alot of people don't like it because of its texture. It is really chunky. I think it looks like a pinker version of Kitchmas and when used wet, it looks like a pinker version of Pink Opal. I love it as a cheek highlight too. There are things that are similar, but no exact dupes IMO.

I wouldn't say that Blue Brown and Club are the same. They are similiar tho. Blue Brown is more on the red side of brown than Club.

Pro Green brown is closer to Club e/s but Club has a dark red brown undertone which I like more. Club reflects green like Pro Green Brown does.

You can make your own Coco Beach dupe by Laying MAC Bronze e/s over MAC Mythology e/s here's a few pictures of the swatches I did. I was REALLY excited about this too!

Coco Beach on Left (or bottom) & Mythology with Bronze on right (or top)

on me big t and teal are majorly different
black black and carbon.. are different depending on what you are doing (I use it as a eyeliner carbon is deeper but if you can get your hands on black (not black black) that is the same as carbon.
I think the 3 (coco, subtle, sunnydaze) are a little bit different under direct sunlight
sunpepper and copperclast are way different, sun pepper is a brown with silver, copperclast has a many color undertone (pink, blue, purple and green, in direct light)
golden lemon and gold are different and have enough difference to buy both, golden lemon is more of a sunshine yellow and gold is a true gold frost.
blue storm is the same as naval blue the do not have any differences
grape and entermauve are a little bit different textures
quitely and lovely lily are different tones
accent red and ruby red have different undertones of colors I think they are both beautiful enough to own
Coco Beach and Chocolate Brown are two different colors and should never be mistaken for the same, choc. brown is a nice rich brown that is very nice, but coco beach is wonderful a rich brown with copper undertones
Dazzleray and Jardin Aires are different colors and different textures
I cant tell you for all girl dupes, but it is not worth ebay prices

I can tell you there are some that I never reach for and there are some that are my go to colors. I have all pigments mac has made and there are some that are close.

however ones that stand out to me are
green brown
old gold
pink pearl
pink vivid
steel blue
rose
aprocot pink
acid orange
golders green
violet
gold
bronze
purple
pink bronze
chartruse
true chartruse
helium
cornflower
kelly green
silver fog
copper sparkle
electric coral
bright coral

from the newest collection
revved up
mauvement
copperized
quick frost
gold mode
cocomotion
off the radar

rushmetal is close to copper sparkle but its not close enough not to buy it.. well at least to me, but then again I'm a pigment whore what can I say - only one I would say skip

I love my Helium too. I use it with pinks and reds. (Love the reds)

I use Kitchmas with the purples and violets.

Can you help me - I don't want to buy Copper Sparkle since I just bought Rushmetal - however I'm wondering which of the two is a deeper darker Copper? Also I like the texture of Rushmetal is Copper Sparkle the same?

Thanks, I hope to hear back soon =)

Is there anyway one of you could swatch these together dry and wet/ mixing medium and just quote my question. Thanks!

If it's any help to you, I found Copper Sparkle to be really chunky with lots of fallout. Not crazy about it!
