That's the most depressing part. once is life damaging enough but over and over again and no one saw this or helped. Thank god for that bus cam or else this would've been a he said-she said incident and the little girl would be traumatized even more. I hope he gets the max.

So wait a minute, this guy was just let off? Sure, he has a record now, but that's it?! What. The. Hell.

This is revolting. That bus driver must have been one ignorant, moronic idiot. He probably did hear it but was just too lazy to stop the bus and check it out, assuming it was nothing. I know bus drivers (public transit, not school) here wouldn't turn around, in all likelihood. They just want to finish their routes and go home with as little interference as possible.

This world is disgusting...

Yea, a BIG HARD UNCOMFORTABLE LONG lesson from his cell mate EVERY NIGHT.

There is a trigger inside of me that prevents me from being silent when I see something wrong happening to someone. Call it moral/ethical indignation at an act I am capable of stopping or bringing attention to. I can't believe this child was put through this experience.

A SCHOOL BUS FULL OF PEOPLE AND NOT ONE PERSON WAS CAPABLE OF STANDING UP FOR HER.

We are putting our kids voluntarily into HARMS WAY everyday with public education. Young people now a days are MISGUIDED, school is a SOCIAL function. I'm seriously convinced that 90% of the US population DOESN'T FUCKING KNOW HOW TO RAISE CHILDREN.

Unfortunately, this apathy isn't a new thing. I believe the term "Genovese syndrome" is used to describe it.

Regardless, if in fact this boy is guilty of commiting this act, I hope someone stabs him with a rusty knife and leaves him to die of tetanus.

You know, I hear stuff like this, and it makes me think ... Human evolution must have peaked some years ago, and we are now starting to return to animal level.

This is disgusting! I can’t believe they claim to have heard nor seen anything.
My heart goes out to this poor girl.

Don't get confused (to those who thought he "got off" or whatever).. the kid likely had his parents post his bond (which is BS in my opinion--as parents, wouldn't you make him sit in jail and refuse to post bond and wait for his hearing?!! WTF kind of parenting is that?! whatever... ) He'll be in court very soon and hopefully this poor girl and her parents can see him get what he deserves (at least in court... besides what we'd all obviously like to do to this little cowardly shit).

I will bet you that not only did everyone notice, everyone knows exactly who the rapist is. Where he lives, what his name is, who his brother is, and if he's done something like this before. No one will talk though.

Welcome to why dispicable crimes remain unsolved 101. Everyone in the neighborhood always knows but no one will ever talk to the police. Sad.

People are so fucking selfish, i'd rather get hurt in some way knowing that i tried to help someone than walking away fine and dandy yet knowing that someone's life could be potentially ruined and i didn't do anything to help them...

Poor girl i really do hope she overcomes this and that sick bastard gets what he deserves.

Why didn't the driver stop the bus? I know some little kids are afraid of retribution (witnesses later getting hurt, etc) but a group of kids could have overpowered another thug kid.
Those who say and did nothing were accessories to a violent crime imo.

retribution is veryyy common. i experienced it wayyy too much in high school. i was bullied by the "hardcore" group of Asian girls in the higher grades, harrassed by them and my classmates did little to nothing to help me for many reasons. some kids are afraid that the other girls will come after them. some kids don't care, some don't want to get involved, and others jsut dont know what to do. i was quite afraid myself. i was threatened to not tell any adults and i just started high school and i was obviously scared shitlesss. its very interesting how people can easily watch others get victimized, no joke.

truth is, many kids are cowards. maybe 1/100 will speak up, but the majority won't from my experience. its sad... i had very little faith in people afterwards.

Here's a link to a couple of the newspaper stories. Police say a school bus video camera captured images of a 14-year-old girl trying to ward off an 18-year-old student accused of raping her in front of other students. They have had the guy's pic and name all over the news. Still nobody that was on the bus are talking. I can't understand why someone doesn't speak up. This is sickening.

^^ITA, ridiculous that his bail was apparantly less than $200K (since only 10% has to be posted to be released). With what the prosecution has...a VIDEO of the attack, I think he should have had a muuuuuch higher bail amount. It really disgusts me that no other students have come forward (at least not that we've heard of recently). If I were a parent of one of those kids on the bus...and I'm sure there was a group of sh*theads egging the rapist douchebag on...I would have my kid testifying in a heartbeat. Stories like this really make me think that society is becoming too complacent about rape - placing all the blame on the victim again.

I have that exact same trigger! Sometimes DH gets concerned when I say something in public because he says you never know if some crazy would have a gun. I am a firm believer that evil does prevail when good men/women do NOTHING.

Your second comment - I'd even raise that percentage! Its nice to hear someone say it!

No, don't insult other animals... and yes, we are animals too. The problem with humans is we've forgotten how to behave as orderly with the good sense we were given.

It seems to me that the video tape should also show the students around the spot where the assault took place. To me it seems like those people sitting around that area would have had to known and further actions should be taken against them as well. Not doing anything about it is just as bad as committing the crime yourself. There were several students on the bus which could have called attention to the assault once every one on the bus knew what was going on I doubt the boy would have continued. Stopping it didn't necessarily mean physically stopping the boy but simply yelling at him and calling attention to what he was doing.

Its sickening that the more people around, the less likely the victim of crime will be helped (you’d think people would be braver with back-up). How would that girl have felt knowing and seeing all those classmates/school pupils around her, doing nothing whilst she went through that harrowing ordeal? I personally would loose all faith in humanity if I went through that - its a thin thread as it is from hearing about things like this.

I hope that the fact that they could have stopped this (often life destroying) event from happening plays on their mind for the rest of their cowardly little lives – how will they feel about it if/when they have children of their own and send them off to school on a bus?

As for that pathetic waste of life, I hope he gets to know what he put that girl through when he goes to jail (preferably nightly from several of his fellow jail mates). Karma, after all, is a bitch.
