Ha. Totally off topic. I lived in Oregon when the suicide girls started. Thats crazy. Actually. Now that I think about it...we used to go to this club in Portland called Dante's (kind of an alternative, goth place)...and they had go go dancers and half naked fire dancers and burlesque routines...I wonder if they were Suicide Girls.

I'm not above going to the strip club. In fact, they're kind of fun.
There's two on the island (Femme Nu and Rock-Za) that are hugely popular, but pretty clean (compared to the others that I've seen and gone to-- and I've been to some REAL SH*TTY ones). The girls have huge guys around and outside the club to protect them and a lot of the guys that come in are regulars and pretty nice guys. A couple of them laughed when they saw a bunch of girls (well, me and my girlfriends and some guys) come in and gave US money to give to the strippers and had pizza ordered for us (and yes, my bf was there, eating away at the cardboard pizza). I think the girl who danced for us made around 300 dollars.
I'm going to have to disagree with the "military being pricks" thing. Granted there are some of them that go ballistic once there's a drop of alcohol in their system, but a lot of them just go to the ones that I know of just to blow off steam.
I've seen all walks of life be rude and unmanagable, but to say that it's MOSTLY, if not ALL military is kind of a reach, don't you think?

Yes, there are "Stripper Sucess Stories", particularly if you work at an "upscale Gentleman's Club". The standards are quite different. A lot of women who don't have the "privilege" of working there find themselves working at ol' seedy ass places where stretchmarks, bullet and stab wounds and fat ass guts are all the "Saturday Night Special".

Fuck that. I hate driving in Hawaii. I was there for a month (just got home Wednesday) and decided fucking Honolulu/Oahu is the most retardedly stupidly ignorantly laid out place I've ever been. It was BEAUTIFUL, but it's not worth driving into downtown Honolulu. *bangs head*

Shimmer, I have to agree that it does get super crazy in Honolulu and it's way hard to find anything. That's why I make my bf drive everywhere unless I really really REALLY know how to get there. (I live in Aiea)

I stayed mostly over by Kunia, Waikele and Ewa Beach. I spent MOST of my free time at White Plains, though I did go to LaniKai while I was there.
Traffic in HI is ridiculous. The lack of flow in the roadways is worse. Oh I cursed Honolulu and the state DOT for the layout while I was there.

On the subject of rape and strippers, I think it can be more prevalent than we realize.
While 80 year old women get raped, I think you run a higher risk if you dress and act sexually provacatively. It isn't fair and shouldn't be, but I think it's true.
I also know from some people that you're likely to be a rape victim because people will take advantage of your status as stripper. They know that, as sad as it is, a police officer is less likely to take the allegation seriously. I imagine it could be relatively low-risk, which is terribly sad.
As far as stripper going home with men, that isn't how you always get raped. You can be followed home, even if you're escorted to your car. Your boss could rape you and have that kind of hold over you (yes, I realize that can happen anywhere, in any business, but people who work as strippers or prostitutes aren't going to be treated like the secretary of a Fortune 500 company.) The woman may try like hell to be safe, but it really isn't safe, considering the business.
