Chanel Summer 2011

MAC is also not really pushing my buttons lately, either. I bought more than expected from Wonder Woman because ... well, it was Wonder Woman. (That, and that I'm a sucker for purple and green quads!) But before that, I hadn't bought anything since VV.

But I did buy quite a bit of Chanel and bought my first Illamasqua, MUFE, NARS and YSL items. Today I bought a few pigments and mixing medium at the pro store but didn't really feel the need to buy anything else.

Compare that to my trip to Sephora minutes earlier -- I had to talk myself out of so many things so that I only walked out with a few things. And I still want to go back for more!

But it's a good thing, I suppose -- not spending MAC gives me the opportunity to buy Chanel!

I agree. MAC needs to slow it down and concentrate on quality not quanity. I hate getting my hopes up for great sounding collections and then finding out a good deal of the products are not up to standard. They are just cranking out way too many collections I get confused as to which is next or if I missed something.

I have loved NARS since my ex daughter-in-law gave me some as a gift about 7 or 8 years ago. I really like MUFE foundations and aqua liner pencils.

I have a few Chanel products and love them so I'm going to be picking up some more. I used their foundation for years but that's been some time ago.

Count me in on showing other brands some love! Even though Mac makes up most of my make up collection, I covet more the items I have from MUFE, Chanel and Nars. I am also quicker to endorse and/or defend those brands. I won't stop buying Mac because they do have great items, but they need to slow down, step back and rethink some of these products/collections. Trying to keep up with them lately has made me late to the Chanel/Nars party! Items are flying right over my head and I feel so late.
Yes, Mac are definitely the majority of my collection and I still find them impossible to beat in terms of the range of shades they offer (I noticed this especially when I was looking at purple lipsticks). I like the fact that their collections have themes that are a little more whimsical than more established brands and that they do launches more than once a season, but it's simply getting to be too much. A lot of the colours they're promoting just aren't as original... they're running out of shades, I swear, or at least offering a lot of things that look like near repeats.

One of the problems I've run into is that there's reasonably little left for me to explore in their regular line and I don't find that the products they've added to their permanent range (with the exception of the super slick liquid liners last year) are really firing me up. I still love them, I'm just not monogamous with them anymore...

ah ok then! i have also heard about the european quads being baked whereas you guys get normal ones. what the freak is the difference? the only thing i can see is that some are square in shape and some are round. it's all quite confusing! i thought things would be the same worldwide! i shall perhaps call the chanel MA next month and see if she can tell me the release date for this :)

In general the US formula is unique to the US, while the Euro formula is sold everywhere else - Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia, etc. Sometimes for an LE product they only offer one or the other everywhere....or at least sometimes we can only get the Euro version even in the US (Pink Explosion JC, for example)...I'm not really sure they've done it in the reverse.

Euro e/s quads are baked and have round pans while US e/s quads are not baked with square pans. I haven't seen people talk about color differences, just harder texture and occasional glitter fallout with the Euro quads....using them wet is supposed to help.

The Euro JCs are baked and are oil free, but the US JCs contain mineral oil. The Euro JC brushes are black while the US have brownish variegated bristles. The baked Euro JCs are harder and may become difficult to get pigment from over time...some people suggest scratching up the surface if this happens. Also the colors are sometimes noticeably different - US Narcisse was warmer than Euro Narcisse, US Rose Dust is browner than Euro Rose Dust, etc. There are also sometimes differences in the amount of shimmer in Euro vs US versions. The formulas are really very different:

Euro Narcisse:
talc, fragrance, bentonite, zea mays (corn) starch, sodium methylparaben. May contain: a bunch of dyes, titanium dioxide, mica

US Nude:
talc, polyethylene, mineral oil, lithium stearate, lanolin alcohol, fragrance, magnesium myristate, methylparaben, serica (silk powder), propylparaben, hexamidine diisethionate, 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol, citral, citronellol, geraniol, linalool. May contain: a bunch of dyes, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, mica.

^^ Thanks for the detailed explanation!

Lou, all my blushes and e/s quads are baked and I have no problems with them. I like that the colours are buildable. I only have one quad that is in the US square, non-baked formula, Oasis, and it is non shimmery.

i guess if i have any issues with pigmentation then i shall use the shadows wet! it is good that generally the colours are pretty much the same though - baked or non baked!
Colors may be different when it comes to the JCs though. You can see the difference for Narcisse here:

I prefer the Euro Narcisse and Rose Dust to the US versions on my skintone.

The bigger pain is that they often release country/region-specific collections or colors. The Rouge Coco Shines, for example, look to have several shades that can only be bought in specific countries. And Asia often gets really beautiful collections that are hard or impossible to find elsewhere. I think some items may show up in duty free shops at international airports but I'm not really sure about that?

ah i see! thank you! yes i prefer the euro version of the blush too actually. that is frustrating that places tend to get different colours though. how random. maybe we all have different best selling colours which is why they do that. and asia seem to get lots of collections from mac too which nobody else seems to get hold of! i have also been trying the new shine lipsticks. the chanel lady gave me a sample pack with some colours in and i am freaking loving them! i have been bitten by the chanel bug!

Same here. I sold most of my WW products. I shouldn't have purchased them in the first place but got caught in the LE hype again. Nothing in the next few collections really entices me. I've been with MAC since the Salsarose collection. I remember when there were far fewer collections and the products in each were great. Sadly those days seem long gone.

I branched out and bought two of the new Shiseido Shimmering l/s (Iron Maiden and Golden Dragon) as well as one of the new GA Eyes to Kill Intense shadows (Red Lust). I love them all.

And I am so excited about the summer Chanel and NARS collections that I am getting inpatient. LOL

I'm really longing for those Eyes to Kill Intense shadows! They look so beautiful. I forgot to stop at Neiman's this weekend to check them out when I was out and about. I'm also craving more Illamasqua. It's such a shame I have to drive into Dallas for it though; the Sephora closest to me does not carry it. Can't wait for their spring collection.

And I'm eagerly anticipating the Chanel summer launch! I tried the new foundation, but it didn't wear well on my combo skin and became patchy when I tried to blot the greasy spots with pressed powder. I'm into brights lately, so I'm oddly most excited for the yellow nail polish.... I don't own anything like it, and I'm strangely craving it! The glossimers also are very, very tempting....

A little off-topic, but I definitely second the ETK love. I picked up Red Lust and it's AMAZING. It can go on intense or be sheered out (work quickly!) and the texture is just unreal. I have to stop myself from running back and buying all of them...

Thanks for explaining :) I just don't understand why we can't all have the same formula! :/

Just thought I would post this link up here, in case any of you ladies are as curious as I am: http://karlasugar.net/2011/03/saks-chanel-summer-event/ In the comments, Karla and some commenters talk about the release date for this collection! It might hit counters as early as April 16th, or it could be a week or so from April 16. I suspect it might be online earlier than April 16th though, maybe even this week to coincide with the release of the RC Shines on April 6th??

That would be great! I wish, though, that they would get it together with respect to their launches.......the RC Shines come out here on the 6th or something like that - they seriously need some program management or something.

I'm liking the quad more and more.....
