Chanel Holiday 2011

As far as Noir-Ivoire I feel that if you look good in and use black e/s it is great! The texture on both shades is divine. However, if you don't wear black e/s, like me, and will really only use the black as a liner, then it becomes very expensive for an ivory e/s that you likely have something similar to. It would be nice for travel or convenient to tuck into a small dressy purse. But for me it is really very skippable.

She also reviewed the cdp powder, so gorgeous!

I haven't got Brun Rose as we never got it here in the UK but I did pick up Noire-Ivoire and its a very pretty duo. I was actually surprised I liked it as I hadn't originally planed to pick it up. The ivory shade has a beautiful sheen and subtle shimmer

I love the ivoir/noir es duo.. I have been collecting most of them and really love their textures.. I do use black a lot so I get good use out both shades.

I never got the Brun Rose.. and now I am being tempted to try it.. but the brun part throws me off a bit since bruns turn into minor orange messes on my face.

Thanks, winthrop, Alisha, HG and elegant! I'm still undecided lol. I've got to try Brun Rose on my cheeks before buying then, because it may turn orange on me. Thanks for pointing that out, HG! And I haven't decided if I need Beige Lame lol.

winthrop - I do wear black eyeshadow. You can try putting just a bit at the outer corner of you lids to add some dimension. I do that with the darker shades.

Thanks Miss QQ. That's what I do with darker shades too, but when I tried that with Noir-Ivoire the black was just too harsh and cold looking on me. I really need softer, "dirty" colors, and dark warm grey looks much better on me than black. I love how black looks on other people though.

Exactly my fear. If I go with anything "brownish" in a blush, I have to make sure it's more cool/ neutral or it looks like a bad spray-tan.

As for the duo, I have so many blacks and ivories that I couldn't really justify the expenditure, but just swatching the two colours, I have to say that the texture of both was unbelievably good. I'd almost say that they were superior to other Chanel shadows although, again, I've only swatched them. Can someone refresh my memory as to whether or not this duo is permanent? It seems like a no-brainer to have in the regular line...

^ I hate that orangey look.. I feel like the old woman in Something about MAry, minus the hair curlers.

sounds like you have a good rappor with BL.. I did swatch it and the similarity with Fauve turned me off.. I like gleam, sheen and glisten.. but not glimmer, glitter or particles.. and refuse to wear them on my eyeballs.. I have enough trouble seeing.. lol.

that's basically why I passed on it.

LOL @ the old lady look. Here in Quebec there is a cliche of the "Mother-in-Law" type who always has her hair dyed an unnatural inky black or a really overly brassy blonde well into her sixties and seventies and has her skin so fake-tanned it looks like cowhide, but still puts LOTS of makeup, including orange blush. Since I already have the black hair, I'm a little nervous about using anything that would bring me closer to that look.

Strangely, I don't have a problem with actual orange blushes like Devil or My Paradise, because they seem to show as red on me. But brown turns orangey/ rusty. No clue why.

it's the ochre pigments in browns which become unstable.. and more of that good stuff.

I wanna be Iris Apfel.. lol. .. better have big red lips and white hair than orange cowhide..

I keep checking my hair to see if it's turning a lovely silvery white like my father's did. Sadly, I have inherited my mother's hair (which is ironic, since she was always beautiful and I look so little like her that people used to always ask if I was adopted), which has salt and pepper strewn throughout, just enough to make the overall colour look drab. Sigh.

oh dear.. I know that feeling. The birthing of my full grey hair has taken me about 5 years total... mixed in salts/peppers and then multi coloured dyes until I went ballistic and did a surgical buzz cut in summer.. and now this.. which is not totally white, but 70% silver.. surprisingly my skin looks brighter and my eyes look more amber coloured. I have noted though that any browns or yellow based products make me look a bit piqued.. or hung over.. lol.

my mother has had a full head of white hair since she turned 50.. it is full thick and lustrous.. and quite beautiful.

my father was bald.. lol. So, all in all, I am glad I got her hair

LOL! My dad was bald too, but what hair he did have is how Kate described her dad's - a beautiful silver - which I got. But then I started coloring it last year. I always got compliments on my hair, but somehow I just felt older with it - like I looked older. My skin is in good shape, and I don't really look my age, but the hair gave it away.......so I'm gonna *sigh* too.....

Maybe one day I'll go back to it.

I have the same issue with browns on my skin - as you say, HG, oompa-loompa time.

Kate, love Famous on you - just divine!!!

According to Karla's site and a bunch of others I read it's limited edition :)

I saw the Chanel Holiday collection in House Of Fraser yesterday, and was drawn to Famous lipstick straight away. I have it on now, and it's the perfect colour. It's the one and only Chanel lipstick I own

LOL. Yes, I suppose it could have been worse... Could have ended up bald like my grandad... I still keep checking my roots as they grow in to see how much grey I'm dealing with. And so I can try to get an idea of what my natural colour has turned into. I haven't seen it in so long...

Thank]s. It's an absolutely lovely shade and I adore cool, pink-reds like that. They make me feel like Snow White.

Dang. Now I have to consider it more carefully...

Thanks for your review on BL and the duo. I think the duo is LE too. I didn't buy Famous because I have Rouge Byzatin. It makes me feel like snow white too! But I'm not as pale as you, I could only wish. I love those cool pink reds. You have to let me know what the shades are. But I don't wear them very often as it is too strong in my office. I like wearing Rouge Byzatin and Rouge blush together, but I'm weary it may look too much.

I bought Guerlain holiday meteorites and the perfume glitter spray! Guerlain has a super good promotion today and with the purchases I got a full sized cleansing milk, a Kisskiss lip lift which is a primer, and a clutch including a mini cream foundation and concealer (the new compact), mini RA in Coque D'or (I nearly bought it), a belt like bangle, and a mini Orchidee serum. On top of everything I got a makeover and a lucky draw, which I won a full sized bronzing powder. I also got a $20 voucher for my next purchase, but it expires in a month's time. As for Chanel, my friend could not find the lip bag at the airport counter so I wouldn't be getting it. I used Tentations Cuivree yesterday and I discovered it has the pink and teal shimmers too in one of the shades, could be the pink. The effect looks like BL so I'll not be getting BL. Michelle - I'll let you know when I've tried the guerlain. :) very excited. The celebrity MA who did my makeover used the holiday quad and the pressed peacock powder a lot. He liked the powder very much, said it can be used all over the face, and as a blush. Wonder if I'll cave. Remember See's Candy? I got my friend to buy a box of California Brittle for me! I wanted the Christmas boxes and the mug but the store didn't have them. I also got the cafe latte candy and two pumpkin spice lollipops. :) I have not tried CB because it is wrapped beautifully and I don't want to open it.

Congrats MissQQ, that was a great shopping day with lots of surprises! Too bad they never do something like this here. I was swatching the pressed powder and the meteorites today as well and I was a bit surprised that I liked the pearls more than the powder :dunno: They just felt smoother. I'll go back and swatch again. How did you like the peacock powder on your skin? Do you think it's worth it? Enjoy your goodies :)

Wow thats a lot of freebies! Enjoy your goodies! I bought sooo many highlighters from the christmas collections that I haven't used the christmas meteorites in a while! I can't wait for a special occasion where I can use the shimmer spray
