Finally got my employee number. I start on Monday. I am way too excited because I get a Macy's discount as well as Mac. Not to mention my manager said we get a welcome package. So glad I finally did this because I was really second guessing applying! Will keep u all updated.
Quick question, do we get to take our brushes home?

You get the Macys discount if you sign up for the CC- but they have a pre-paid one too if you don't want to open up a credit card... The welcome package is great, but you don't even KNOW what you're in for with gratis... And no brushes to take home, but you get gratis/a certain dollar amount 2x a year depending on how many hours you work, and that's a good time to get brushes.

I have been lurking around a couple days now!
Im in UK and was wondering if their interview process was pretty much the same as US?
As far as I know, it seems US MAC interview process, they like to have groups in at a time, does that apply in UK?
Also... I handed in my CV on the Sunday just gone, I had asked them if they were recruiting first and to my surprise the counter staff said that they 'think' they were.
She took my CV in and also asked if I had any make-up experience, she didnt ask about retail experience.
I told her I had make-up experience (not a huge amount but I still do have it!) and she said she would hand my CV in to the manager when shes back.
Didnt think much of it until they rang me a 2 days later.
Im not sure if they do that to everyone who hands in CV's, but it got me super excited!
She said she was going through some CV's and are calling people up to tell them they will be calling again to arrange an interview in 3-4 weeks time.
Now i dont know what to think about this...! I have a feeling maybe shes just ringing to say shes recieved my CV :S

But she did however, mention that there was a PT slot available and they were also on the lookout for Xmas temps too, which usually turns into a permanent job after Xmas.

Im doing a lot of research on MAC at the moment and I hope they do call back!

I told one of my cousins about them ringing me back, and she told me its probably cause they need to arrange a time suitable for a bunch of people to interview at the same time.

I guess I just need to vent on this post-interview process since I barely know anyone personally that can advise me with anything regarding this matter since it's MAC.

On September 4th, I went in for my interview as well as my demo (for a part-time position). All went really well, in fact they had said I should be expecting a callback at the end of the week.

One week went by, asked my other friend who works there how long the waiting process is and she said 1-2 weeks depending if they had more interviews.

I waited another week.

Two weeks went by and still received nothing. I called the counter I was applying for (interview was done by other managers), but she had stepped out for the moment so the employee I spoke to asked for me to leave my number.

Two and a half weeks went by and so I decided to call again in hopes that I could speak to the manager.

She said she had gotten my message from the first time I called and had already TOLD the managers to give me a callback and went and said "hmm... let me contact them right now and I will call you back, I have your number here."

Currently, I am still waiting for some kind of callback. Didn't know when she would exactly call me back, or if she contacted anyone regarding my situation.. But I guess you can say I'm a little frustrated and not really sure of what to do. Sorry if this was in detail I just wanted to make this experience as visual and as real as possible lol. My friend who works at another mac (Mac, Soho, NY) says that this kinda feels pretty long from when they said they'd call me.

Is this post-interviewing process normal? What would you advise that I would do next?

hello! I have an interview with the Mac counter manager at Macy's this coming Thursday. it's funny I got the interview because I did not turn in a resume, or job application. I was shopping at the counter about three weeks ago and the manager said she always loves how I apply my makeup and that they were hiring for a freelance position, and she wanted me to apply. well I called her and left a message, she never got back to me but just called a couple days ago to set up an interview. so obviously she really wants me there, so i really want to make a great impression! so what is the interview process like? I'm assuming I'll have to do a makeup demo, which I'm really nervous about !! any help or answers would be great. thank you!! :)

Sooooo I just got hired as a permanent artist!!!! I had two counters offer me interviews and I decided to work for a counter in the city closer to my home. I go in Friday to fill out my paperwork and I am too excited! All in all, freelancing was great if you can get the hours.

Hello everyone! Calling all MAC recent hires!!! I'm for the dc/Baltimore area and have recently went under the long drawn process of interviews with Mac. I've already done my initial interview with home at a career call 2 weeks ago, did my 2nd interview/demo interview last wednesday at their Maryland training facility followed immediately with a 3rd interview with Sheryl? Who I beleive is the temp. Regional manager. Sheryl told me I would need to wait 2 weeks before I hear anything from Mac to see if I'm hired. How long did the interview process take for you girls, from the moment you first interviewd to the call that said you were hired?

Depends, I have read for some people it can take up to a year, and in the MAC interviews UK thread, the user in there got hired pretty quickly. Seems on avg. its about 3 months. I had my interview last Thursday and got a call back in less than a week to say I have gotten through to demo (Yay!!) But she is going to call me back later this afternoon to give me more details... I just know its at 10am and the location... dont know what date!

However... I had applied for an Xmas temp position (24hr and 18hr) and they did tell me xmas temps interviews are usually a little different. My interview was VERY informal. I had done tonnes and tonnes of research on MAC and was really confident about my knowledge on the company, but they didn't even ask me the history or ANYTHING other than "how would you sell me this lipstick and what would you recommend with it". They asked me mainly about myself and what I do, looked at some of my images, but as I was talking to them I kept on mentioning about products, how to apply, what with and why. I just couldn't believe how informal it was
icon_eek.gif
I asked them about progressing in the company and they said usually (depending on budget) they may keep some temps on as permanents (obv if they think you did well) but if they dont have any positions/budget, temps are usually the first people they call instead of taking on new applicants. I just wonder if a temp was to stay perm, would they have to go through another interview?!

I also read in the MAC interviews UK, that the user in there went through the first interview, and a demo, and she was hired the next day and was due to start work the week after, so it took less than 3 weeks!

Mine so far has been 1 week exactly, and the manager had told me that temps start work round 20th Oct

Hi everyone! I have the group interview today at Pentagon mall.....this is not my first time interviewing with Homa. My first interview I thought went well but I guess not I didn't get a call back. She said my makeup was great and asked the others in my group on a scale of 1-10 how would they rate it and they said a 10......so when she asked me I said a 10 too! Well after reading the thread I realized that's where I screwed up at! I thought they wanted you to be confident......I felt as though she didn't like me! I've interviewed several times after that and she always recognizes me . I had given up on ever working for MaC as long as she was going to interview me! But after reading this thread I'm going to give it another go today. I tried reading this thread from front to back but I need to prepare for this interview. I'm so nervous that she just don't like me! Can someone in the DMV or wherever please give me some pointers on getting this interview done and aced!? TIA

I've never interviewed with Homa, but the DM who hired me was definitely a tough cookie- so maybe I can help.
I would say all managers love confidence, but not cockiness. Show that you want to learn and grow with the company. I think my old DM also liked that I was always very honest rather than saying things just to sound good. Basically, a lot of people are probably so intimidated by Hoda that they turn into robots. I think that showing the right amount of confidence+ being unique will really stand out to her.

Thanks so much! I did the group interview and this time when she asked on a scale 1-5 rate your makeup on others and yourself I said 3-3.5! I hope I didn't go into robot mode. This is like my 4th time interviewing with her. I keep going to the casting call. Each time she calls me and says she has received my résumé and can I come to the casting......once before she did this and I came in and she told me she recognized me from the last time and I didn't have to come back so soon. I explained to her that she called me to come back(I'm thinking its a demo or 2nd interview) . She then says "We'll I remember faces not names.....sorry!" And didn't interview me. Like a nut I keep going back because I would loveeeee to work for MAC! But this time she recognized me again but was a bit more pleasant towards me. I think the interview went well but I always think that! I'm so nervous! I've read every page of this thread in hopes I get a call back! I just want a chance to get my foot in the door. When she asked if there were any questions I asked how soon would we know if we had the job she said in a week or 7 days. I'm trying to stay positive but she makes me nervous! Lol thanks again for responding!

-anyone about to read this its ALOT, but the MAC hiring process is not easy..or short! So you can read the entire post or scroll down to see my basic tips for getting this job! Sorry for any typos I wrote this on my phone ) Hello I recently got hired and will be working at the Pentagon store with Danielle. Okay so first let me tell you Homa is one tough cookie but she has always been nice to me so I have nothing negative to say. I applies for MAC in August had my first group interview with Danielle it was about 15mins mostly her talking. My second was a demo with Joy (who I love) it didn't go as good as I'd hope, she told me I need to work on my technique and come back in 4-6 weeks. So that's what I did. I kept in touch with Homa while I was taking a class. A couple of weeks ago Homa called and asked was I "ready" I said of course and she set up another interview this time with HER and the MTO talk about scary, though Homa was my recruiter this was my first time meeting her. I also had to bring a model for another demo, which I was less nervous about since I knew what they were looking for. I was 15 minutes late (don't be late!!!) so when I came in everyone had already had their models and products selected. Janay (the trainer) gave me 5 minutes to pick my products before I even knew what the look was suppose to be. So I picked Neutral colors (Arena and Brown script..and format blush so I can use it has a eye shadow and a blush) don't pick up too many products for the day time look. Keep it simple! Don't define the brows with concealer don't spend too much time on the brows because Mac isn't looking for that 2007 brow they want a more natural clean look! I didn't even fill my model's brows in! They were already perfect! Make sure your model gets her brows arched! I didn't apply any foundation! Just concealed and MSF natural. I have her a nude lip and format blush. (Remember I said I was 15' mins late) but I was the first one done....make sure you are speaking loud enough and NEVER stop talking to ur model! After that janay gave me 7 mins to turn it ink a night time look. My focus was her eyes and lips at first so I grabbed carbon and cyber lipstick (big no no) all I did was darker her outer corner was a little black and lined her eyes with black track! I didn't have time to add the dark lips which I thank god for!! I wasn't even thinking that the lip would take away from her eyes! So our time is up and the trainer goes around to critic everyone...I as the last one to be critic ..there were 7 of us in that room and only 3 made it out . She LOVED my look I was so shocked she told me I kept the look clean, her face isn't caked with product , her brows look great blah blah ..then it was time for the verbal. It was me and the two other girls that passed their demo, we went in a room it's Homa and Mia. Before that Homa pulled me to the side and asked what store I wanted To go to. I told her metro center or pentagon. The verbal interview was easy!! They ask basic question about your résumé,trends, ect. We left the interview with Homa saying she would give us a call. That was Friday the 19t. I sent her a thank you email Monday morning, around 7am. She called me at 9am to tell me that she loved my work and that she wanted to put me in the pentagon city store which is something they DON'T do with new artist, they usually offer a freelance position. So she told me Danielle would be calling me soon for a phone interview. She called that Thursday and realize she already interviewed me. I start next week. My tips are : Stay on your their Ass!! Call .email or pop up! Do what you have to do to let them know you are serious. On your demo keep it simple! Keep talking!! dont let them see you not talking to your model. ask her questions, tell her what your usin and why you're usin it. Don't spend more than 5 mins on the brows. Don't define them too mug keep the look clean and fresh. Listen to everything she tells you. Make sure you are sanitizing your products and hand before you use something. Smile. Be bubbly,be talkative. Do your research on the company!! Hope this helps if you have any other questions feel free to message me! Follow me on twitter @beautybydayy or Instagram @beautybydajon! Good luck to any one reading this! Don't give up!

I have been working in the cosmetics section of macys for almost 2 and a half years now. I started when I was 18 years old as an On-call. I made my way around majority of the counters however MAC has always been my dream! I was then offered a position for an Estee Lauder owned company however its focused on organic natural skincare which includes doing many facials! Not so much the dramatic makeup that I normally do. After being with that company for a year and a half and decided I was ready to move on and seeing there was FINALLY opening in the MAC counter. I gave in my resumes many times and even spoke to the manager and never really got a call. They then hired a new counter manager who was a DOLL so i automatically tried to meet her ASAP and told her i was interested, we spoke i gave her my resume and she instantly gave me a date and time for the verbal interview unlike the old counter manager who didnt even give me the time or day even though i went out of my way to show how serious and interested i was. For a 20 year old girl, i really have some drive! so the Verbal interview was one on one. She asked me simple questons. "why mac?" "tell me about yourself" "what do you like about mac?" "whats your favorite product?" "what would you do in a situation with a bad customer" etc etc. I made sure to include in my answers the very important things like LINKING PRODUCTS! yes MAC is about makeup but its also about selling! I explained how if im selling a customer a lipstick im going to link it to a lipliner, a gloss etc. I also pointed out that in order to have your makeup look stunning you need to have good skin underneath! That linked to the skin care! She seemed very pleased that I had the knowledge of selling and the tricks and tips (having experience in selling and the current counter i worked for).
From then she told me would call me and let me know when she would schedule my demo. Thats what made me nervous because i didnt know what to expect! I was then called and told it was going to be next week. I decided to bring my model (my neighboor) who was 16 because she had very nice even skin (allowing the foundation to go on smoother and nicer) and big green eyes (to really pop when i applied eyeshadow). Its very important that you chose a model who will make your talent look good as well! Good ski equals better looking makeup! I told my model to exfoliate twice before the interview just so her skin was soft and there was no dry skin on her face to cause the skin to look flaky and uneven with the foundation. The demo began with just me and another girl and our two models. I was given brushes however i brought some of my own as well. They gave us a couple of minutes to pick out our products and told us to do (a natural makeover) however i was quite confused on exactly what they meant, i spoke up and asked! its OK to ask questions!! it means you are serious and want to make sure you are doing something correctly! I used skin lotion primer etc, picked out very basic shadows. Vanilla, Cork etc. To give that netural look but still a light smokey eye to still give it that MAC look with a thick liquid eyeliner to make her eyes pop! I used the FACE AND BODY foundation on her because i really wanted to show them that I have more knowledge then just putting on makeup. You need to know the right ways, products, techniques etc for different age groups! For a 16 year old girl with perfect skin i didnt feel the need to have to put on a thick foundation such as match maker etc. They really liked that i tried to keep her as natural as possible but still have that MAC look age appropriate for a 16 year old. I added Margin blush lightly and added Hue lipstick for a nice pink natural pop! The other girl i worked with finished within 20 minutes but i finished within an hour and i let the trainer know i wanted to take my time a bit so she could get the full few of my talent. She appreciated it. Must i mention you MUST talk to your model the WHOLE TIME!!! Explain the products, how to apply them, what they do and how they will bring out your beauty. When i was finished she seemed VERY pleased and told me she was really interested in me taking the postion, she loved my work and how i talk to the model! Being bubbly is always better then being serious and dry! BE YOURSELF! She told me she is DEFF going to speak to the others and get me in and i would hear from her within the week. Now i am waiting for the call! Wish me luck :) xoxo

Was it Mia? I agree people make Homa seem scary but truth is she really helped me get the job. She is tough but for good reasons.
