My MAC store story: I pre-ordered 2 lippies and the BP. I was assured it wouldn't be a problem. I didn't site stalk or order online. I offered to buy a giftcard and pre-pay for my purchases but they don't do that. I had two separate conversations about whether it was safe to pull the items rather than buy online and went into the store to talk to the MUA the day before the launch who confirmed with a colleague who was opening the store that my stuff would be pulled. Don't worry, your stuff will be here, etc.
I called yesterday morning to see if I could perhaps add Showgirl if it wasn't sold out and had the MUA on the line tell me that somehow my stuff had gotten sold even though it was pulled and put aside for me. By the time I found that out, it was too late to hit the counter near me by opening; I did get TPC but they had no BP or lippies.
I was already irked about the way this collection was launched and this is the nail in the MAC coffin. It's just a couple of lippies (DA and CIS) and a BP so it's not life or death but it's very disappointing because I could have ordered them online and didn't. I've pre-ordered two holiday blush sets from the Bay counter for my daughter's Christmas gift, but other than that I'm done with MAC collections. Who needs stress over makeup? This takes away any pleasure I get out of looking forward to the new collections, checking out swatches and the like. I've chased hot toys for my kids before when they were little but I'll be damned if I'll race around town for makeup.
I'll be in NYC next week and will go to the NARS store and pick up a couple their other red lippies. I wouldn't go so far as to say that I won't buy any MAC any more, but I will say that they're no longer my first choice of where to spend my makeup dollars. I'm sure I'll still get Blot Powder, foundation and replace some of my favourite lippies if I ever finish them. As for buying from collections, I'm not buying much at this point because I already have so much and it doesn't matter to me in the least if NARS prices are slightly higher. I like the quality and I know I can get them.
MAC, this 'hype' game you like to play has just cost you the loyalty of a customer who's been buying from you for 18 years.
