Generally speaking, red dyes can cause irritation on the eyes, and blue may cause a reaction on the lips.  This is why so many red/bright pink pigments are not recommended for use on the eyes, and why many blue/purple pigments are not recommended for use on the lips.  That being said, many people use pigments in the "not recommended" ways anyway.  It's really just a matter of what you're comfortable with.  If you've never had a reaction to red dyes and want to try Magenta Madness on your eyes, go for it.  But I would suggest doing it when you don't have to be anyplace for an extended period of time that day, so that if you DO have a reaction, you can remove the product immediately.  MAC really doesn't educate their customers or their artists in pigment safety, so you kind of have to take the initiative yourself.  All "not recommended for eye/lip use" really means is that the product hasn't necessarily been tested for use in the way that is not recommended, so if you do have a reaction to it, MAC takes no responsibility for it.  Personally, I don't use any product in a way that is not recommended...but sometimes it is tempting, lol. Probably went off on a bit of a tangent there responding to your red dyes comment, but HTH!
Nailed it!

I wasn't sure what the 159 looked like so I googled and it reminds me quite a bit of a Crown Brush I have. The C426.

I was hoping I had all of that correct, but erine-approval confirms it! Maybe you can clarify what kinds of reactions are possible? I was never entirely clear on that. I assume something similar to an allergic reaction: burning, swelling, etc? And if you don't have a short-term reaction, is there a possibility it's doing harm in the long-term? I could probably look this stuff up online, but I feel better asking a reliable source!

Possible reactions are pink eye-like symptoms on the eyes-redness, itching, burning, watering, pus. It won't cause long term damage unless ofcourse there's an injury such as using a pearlglide in the waterline. The glitter can cut the tissue or the eye itself. Then you're in a whole different situation! The most common eye irritants are red dyes and larger pearl particles. As for the lips, possible reactions are redness, burning, and peeling. Lip reactions aren't as severe as eye reactions tho, and tend to clear up faster as well. Most lip reactions I've come in contact with thru clients are from plumping lip products, glitters and SPF. And reactions tend to be more topical as opposed to ingestion.

I believe I am allergic to both the carmine red dye and Bismuth Oxychloride...my eyes will water and itch. I have been trying to wean out my eyeshadows that have them but it is sometimes hard to get ingredient lists on old eyeshadows. I have been very cautious about buying any new shadows unless I can see the ingredient list. It will be hard to do this with this collection though. I find with mes I will try to keep them away from my tearducts.

Haha, I actually have a gray coat that I always call my Inspector Gadget coat, because it looks like his. Maybe I should put a MAC logo on it.

I'd love to get a BU of the 159 too, but unfortunately I'm not made of money, lol. I guess it will be around 50 Euro here, so that plus all the mineralize stuff will have my wallet crying already. But I'm glad I can skip the lip stuff.
I especially love the promo pics of Exotic Ember and Dare to Bare. Can't wait for swatches of those! I really hope all the mieralize products won't have these shimmer particels that migrate everywhere, like Amber Glow MB or Silver Birch MES. I have to admit that I never wear those and probably should have skipped. Although I LOVE the base colour of SB, but I can't deal with the shimmer. My list will shrink significantly if
Do it, do it! LOL

I'll probably skip MES and MSF. I still love my Light Year from last year. I don't wear MES. CSG and I are not good friends.
My wish list should be short. I'm trying to be good.

I can't wait to see the swatches of Midnight Mambo.

My SA told me also that reddish-burgundy and more red toned violets can cause irritation on eyes, especially on green eyes (which I have). He said that green eyes are more prone to be sensitive to red pigments and my eyes are sure sensitive to them, if I don't remove them completly before I go to sleep, the morning I wake up with really swollen and red eyelids.
This happens if I don't remove every trace of Dark diversion fluidline carefully...

The whole thing is quite ironic, beacuse these kind of colors accentuate green eyes the best. But well...

I agree. Nailed it. I just know red dyes have generally been on "avoid this if possible" list. My information is from food though, I remember reading about a certain red dye and how it's in ice creams and all sorts of things, so I assumed red dye must cause irritation in make up. Luckily my skin is not so sensitive unless I sleep in eye makeup (anything) I'll wake up looking like I haven't slept and have horrid allergies lol I've only used pigments like once for eyeshadow and it was my sister n laws and after becoming a makeup hoarder I'm not even sure if it was real mac? But that was ages ago!! Back to topic...err I have no idea what thread this is anymore LOL

Is it bad that now that I've ordered my TR stuff, I'm bouncing in my seat waiting for this collection to release? My TR box won't even be delivered until Monday and I'm already onto the next thing!! A goldfish has a better attention span than I do!

Cant wait until this collection comes out! I LOVE MSF anything!!! Except the lipstick, I have one and I hate it, but I do see they are releasing a purple one! I HAVE to have it! I love purple anything! On the other side of the spectrum I hate orange! I have ablaze lipstick and lipglass and I only swatched it and I HATE IT on me! So that lets me know I am not a fan of coral or anything in the orange family... But cant wait to get my hands on this collection! Thank goodness its in July because TR and RIRI are gonna burn my pockets!!!!

I always love looking at the mineralised collections. But then i get disappointed as they never really look like they do in the pan. I always somehow want the swirly mix in the pan to look like that on my eyes (silly I know) ... Saying that i still want Bossa es and exotic ember MB, and Gold deposit has been on my wish list forever so I will finally pick it up.

It's not that I don't like it, I just forget about it and use my MSFs and Pearlmattes instead! But I'm going out to dinner with friends tonight and thanks to you, I am going to wear Two Virtues! :)

If anyone's considering all five, remember that Gold Deposit and Soft 'n' Gentle are permanent, so you can get them whenever you like.
