All Things Sephora

There have been a lot of brands leaving Sephora lately...I read somewhere that some brands like Edward Bess don't think Sephora is "high end" enough to sell their brand.
ugh..... Its not like its Target!!! Dont get me wrong, i LURVE Target, but Sephora carries many he brands so brands that are snotty like that are annoying. That is why i have NEVER even seen Edward Bess in person i guess, im slummin it hehehe.

I don't think I'm going to order directly from Sephora anymore.

The cost I pay for delivery + tax is just a nightmare.

I think it'd work out better if I just got a CP for things. I mainly only use Sephora for Bite beauty and wanting things like LE stuff I can't get my hands on around the holidays.

That's just what I read online somewhere.

I never heard of EB until I heard the news that they were leaving Sephora a few months ago. None of their products appeal to me.

Here's the article featuring a letter from Edward Bess about why they're leaving Sephora (credit: the beauty look book): http://www.thebeautylookbook.com/2014/02/latest-from-edward-bess.html Basically Sephora isn't "luxurious" enough for their brand....but their products are also sold on QVC. :hmm:
I try not to judge a book by it's cover, but looking at him tells me a lot and it's not good. I find his letter pretentious and just another way to say that Sephora wasn't bringing him enough money. Now, he's perfectly entitled to pull his brand. I'm happy because then maybe there will be room for a brand that I find exciting (can they bring back thebalm?). Sephora's not my company, so I don't take it personally, but I have to laugh at the idea of luxury. What exactly does that entail? Sounds like hell to me. I guess I'm a special brand of customer who likes to go into a store, be left the hell alone, get what I want and leave. I don't like to be fawned over and/or watched. I don't have a million questions. I prefer Sephora over the department stores because I want to be detached. If he waned the customer to have a personalized/luxurious experience, was he not aware of how Sephora rolled somehow? The especially funny thing to me in that link is the long comment from one poster who sums up the Sephora customer base as tweens, teens and young women getting their feet wet in makeup and are obsessed with glitter. How pretentious is that? I'm none of those things, yet what's wrong with being any of that? Man..so long to EB, you won't be missed.

I agree sounds like a real DB!! I read his story, he wanted to go in and work at the counter selling his makeup blah blah blah, well i love sephora for the same reasons. when i went to nordstroms to buy Dior the lady was way to pushy, wouldnt leave me alone to look at things, and kept trying to make me buy what she thought i should have, i dont like high pressure. So Sephora is great, i can look, not feel like i have to spend 200 each time i want to swatch something, and find a lot of brands at one time. That is fine he is leaving if he is a bitch like that cuz i dont like that attitude at all and wont buy from his line now that i know that about him. On to the next! And as far as that chick sterotyping sephora customer base, i have something very special for her to suck!!!!

Shontay, I agree with you 100% . I like Sephora because, after an initial greeting and offer of help, they leave me alone to shop! I don't need to be fawned over, I want to shop in peace. I also shop for fragrance and cosmetics at Nordstrom. There are some counter managers I see frequently and they are nice and helpful even when I say I'm just looking. At other counters there, I do get the cold shoulder when they discover I'm not buying. I've never had that happen at Sephora - probably because they don't work on commission.

Man, I hate the vibe I get from people at counters when I say I'm just looking. It's amusing because "just looking" for me usually leads to a purchase. Either way, I shouldn't feel the vibe has changed just because I may not buy something. I've also been ignored at counters despite my face full of makeup and nice clothes. Those reasons, I won't get into. I like swatching, thinking, picking up my own product and checking out. Sometimes I wander Sephora for 20 minutes debating with myself what to get. I like that freedom. If people like the "luxurious" experience and being fawned over and all that, that's fine. To each his own, but that letter by Bess and that poster comment really rubbed me the wrong way. It was just code to me. Bess is probably smarting over his brand not getting prime position in the store like MUFE, UD and YSL. Funny how Sephora is good enough for them and Marc Jacobs, Estee Lauder, Bobbi Brown and Dior(!). I guess we just don't get brands like Bess and ya know...Charlotte Ronson. Right? Also, it's weird that Guerlain is leaving Sephora. I wonder if it's just that one location because my local Sephora actually expanded their Guerlain section just a couple of weeks ago.

I also prefer the shopping experience at Sephora more than department stores. I prefer the layout, fall 20% off sale, and the fact that I can checkout with all my stuff at once at Sephora. Getting ignored at counters doesn't really bother me. It just means that I can swatch stuff without being bugged. I usually put stuff that I want in my online Sephora or Nordstrom cart and check out when I get home.

I have to admit that my local Nordstrom is wonderful in all departments. Once I tell someone that I'm just shopping they leave me alone but make sure I know they are around to help. I love shopping at Sephora that much should be pretty obvious. The team there knew my face but since the VIB Rouge event they are even nicer to be that before. If Sephora is good enough for Dior and YSL why can't it be go enough for Mr. Bess.

Until you're trying to get someone's attention because you're ready to make a purchase. That's what I'm talking about. I'm perfectly fine with not being spoken to at all, but when I signal to you that I need your assistance, you need to move your ass or lose this money. That was the problem at my local Neiman Marcus. Last time I went I had a woman ignore me in favor of someone who just walked up. She fawned over her because I guess she had the right look. I stood and waited and that customer left without buying anything. I walked out and waited for what I wanted to come to Sephora. Never set foot in that NM again and never will.

This is what bothers me about my Nordstrom. I'm always ignored (and I mean, they see me but don't say a word) which is fine because I like to be able to swatch in peace, but when I'm ready to purchase something, there isn't anyone around. I'm not going to run around the store hoping someone will take my sale. I have walked out of the store and gone home to order it online. I would rather not have to wait for it to be shipped, but I have more patience for that than the store experience.

Yeah true. In that case I wouldn't buy anything from them either.
